Fetishizing gay white men in the name of BLM is unnecessary and stupid.
You’re hijacking a movement about black people dying at the hands of systemic racism so you can post your ‘uwu tol beans’ fanfiction about real life people.
It’s not only disrespectful to the people you’re writing about, it’s disrespectful to the whole movement itself.
I’m sorry if this video seems to discuss Dan and Phil over the movement itself, but I have an explanation for that:
If someone is doing something wrong in the name of charity, it needs to be addressed.
Writing fanfiction about real people is fucked already, but when you do it and disguise it as your concern for black lives, it’s just fucking gross and tone-deaf. I understand that donating to a charity is good, but if you’re donating so you can read your Dan and Phil coffee shop AU fic, your concern for black lives seem disingenuous.
The fact that it’s fetishization is why I have a problem with people doing phan-related content in the name of charity, because it’s harmful to look at REAL gay men as your sex puppets regardless.
Anyway, to the authors mentioned in the video:

I get that you feel like you’re doing the right thing, but as a black person, I don’t think you’re really prioritizing the movement by writing your creepy ass fanfictions about two grown men who don’t know you exist. It’s gross and I don’t want the fetishization of Dan and Phil to be the reason why people donate.
I want people to donate for black lives.
Stop hijacking our movement to write your shitty porn.
