Commissions are open!

I’ve currently got a negative bank balance, and despite having two jobs I only get paid every two weeks. Thanks to a combination of bills, debt accrual, and an increase in my rent, I am in some financial trouble.

I will draw furries, mechas, vtuber sonas, OCs -- pretty much anything, with the caveat that I will not draw noncon or excessive violence/gore. I haven’t included examples here, but I also draw icons, discord/twitch emojis, and (if you’re willing to wait a bit longer for it) short 1-2 page comics. If you have questions, please feel free to message me.

I reserve the right to decline a commission based on subject matter and retain full rights to whatever artwork I create for you. I dislike accepting donations if I can avoid it (hence this commission post instead of a donation link), but I will gladly accept tips. I require a 50% down payment once initial placement sketches are agreed upon.

One thing that I think gets kind of…overlooked, I suppose, is that ultimately, all-inclusive forgiveness is not required for achieving the best ending.

I mean, a lot of us probably do forgive Asriel at the end! I certainly did. But it’s still explicitly a choice, a choice that does not determine whether you get the True Pacifist ending or not, and a choice separate from the “Comfort him” choice (in other words, you can choose to extend compassion to him without necessarily forgiving him).

Like, yes, the game is absolutely about mercy and compassion and forgiveness and understanding and everything else that goes along with that. But I also appreciate this (what I think is) a very important nuance–that when someone hurts you or hurts your loved ones, you are not required nor expected to forgive them. You are not forced into it. You are not coerced into it (Asriel even lays out everything he did wrong right before the choice comes up). It is your right, and your right alone, to decide whether you want to forgive someone or not.

This is super important.

Things to do before you cut into fabric:

  • Iron it. Listen to me. Look me in the eyes. Are you listening? Iron your fabric. Don’t be an idiot and waste a solid yard of material bc you were too lazy to do it right the first time. Ask me how I know. Velvet is possibly the only exception.
  • Expanding on the ironing, make sure your grainlines aren’t skewed. When you buy fabric, 99% of the time it will be cut crooked and you cannot rely on the cut edge to lay your fabric out straight. If your fabric has a woven pattern, you can use that as a reference, but printed ones aren’t reliable either. I draw a thread an trim off the slanted excess.
  • Lay your fabric out on a flat surface with straight reference lines that can be used to align the grain. For me this means my hardwood floors.

Yes I am way more obsessive than the average hobbyist tailor but getting your grain aligned is so important.

That pattern matching you see here? All because I washed and dried the fabric first, them made sure the motifs were aligned when I was ironing it before I layed out the pattern pieces

"In the instance an employer makes an illegal request for a photograph as part of a job application, you may submit a complaint to the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission." Successful violation fee collections are paid partially to the one who suffered the violation, which in many cases exceeds a year of work at these shit jobs. There's only two weak points to a corporation, and those are in the budget and in the supply chain. Hit them where it hurts.

Fucking word.

Learn your rights!

AUTO REBLOG IN CASE YOU MISSED THIS THE 1ST TIME AROUND.  It is important to KNOW YOUR RIGHTS.

I was interested in this because as a new U.S. resident I had many companies ask for proof of residency/citizenship *and* age in phone screen which are both illegal practices, so I did some research. Here’s some important info:

  • Some states have their own anti-discrimination laws and agencies, but you’re always covered by federal level by EEOC. You don’t need to submit info to both fed or state, submit with either and they will open relevant case with the other.
  • They’re very strict on timing. Some states require you to file within 180 days of the discrimination happening (Some states allow up to 300 days).
  • Multiple things have to happen within those 180 days: start the process by submitting an inquiry online and after that there will be an in-person interview at your local EEOC field office, after which you can submit an actual charge of discrimination.
  • EEOC will help expedite those things if you have 30 days or less in that timeline.
  • EEOC collected $404 million for discrimination victims in 2010 over a record of almost 100,000 individual cases (average of $4,000 per case — so some cases will receive less than this).

Instead of "live laugh love" or "home is where the heart is" my (wonderful, progressive, very accepting) dad put up the racism sign in the foyer

whats the racism sign?

The racism sign, as I like to call it, is from an art piece I made halfway through my first semester of art school:

It reads "any attempted theft will be reported to the police" in the 15 most commonly spoken languages by immigrants here other than English or other western european languages (in descending order).

This sign was only half of the art piece, the other half was the most stereotypically Icelandic painting I could think of:

When the piece was shown the painting and the sign were hung on opposite sides of the room, making the sign more of an afterthought for those who don't speak any of the languages written on the sign. Standing out just enough for them to notice it and maybe wonder what it said, but ultimately not giving it a second thought for the most part.

I wanted to highlight one of the most common ways racism and xenophobia present themselves here as well as the comfort of ignorance. The sign doesn't cater to you, you ignore it it, and you don't care what it might say. You don't have to think about it because it doesn't affect you.

For those who can read the sign though, or bother to translate it, this is just yet another reminder of people's ignorance and double standards. My inspiration for this piece came from my old workplace, where they had this sign hanging on one of the doors:

The main things that stood out about this to me were that

  1. It was the only sign on the premises written in anything other than Icelandic and/or English
  2. All of the additional languages (Vietnamese, Polish, Lithuanian, Latvian) specifically targeted minority groups that already face discrimination here
  3. The location of the sign. We only had 1 of these, and they chose to put it up somewhere where only staff would see it rather than the customers. In fact, it was right next to the break room so you had to walk past it every time you went on break. And it was a sign reminding people not to steal. Big win for inclusivity here

People love saying that we're not racist/xenophobic here even though we very much are. The problem is just that so many people don't take the time to look when it doesn't directly affect them. I was very happy with my piece because people actually came up to me and asked what the sign said because they wanted to know, it started a conversation and made those previously unaware of this issue more aware. I wonder if these sorts of signs would be anywhere near as commonplace as they are if more people looked at them critically and asked "why is this the thing we bother translating?"

Anyway, all that aside I love my dad and I like the way this art piece turned out but also I am slightly worried about giving people the wrong idea when this is the first thing they see when they enter our home 💀

Well if you want my permission to show it then you have it :))

with great regret i must inform you that there is a typo in the Latvian translation, so it actually says “any attempted theft will be reported to poland”

I found out while working on this that it is extremely difficult to get 15 fully accurate translations into languages you don't speak in the span of a week but this is killing me 💀

Bottle rocket under ice

rad

I’m pretty sure that the reason the ice fractured into six slices is the same reason snowflakes are often six sided and it has to do with the shape of a molecule of water and I just think that’s so freaking cool.

How would it even stay lit though?

!!!!! it IS actually because of the structure of water molecules! Water molecules are fuckin weird, as are lots of other liquid substance molecules, because theyre shaped like fuckin HEXAGONS! hexagons are those weird, six-sided shapes that re very sturdy, but they dont tend to sit very well when stacked together. thats why, when you fill up a glass of water to its full capacity, it can go OVER the brim a little and not spill over. It’s also why water beads.

anyway, so since water is essentially made up of a gazillion little hexagons, it tends to gather into larger hexagons as it shapes together. this is not visible unless the water is in a solid form, aka ice. when the water is split, it tends to crack around the established hexagons. that bottle rocket exploded in the PERFECT place to show this phenomenon and its geeking me out.

ALSO! the bottle rocket stays lit because the fuse was definitely waterproof and made with magnesium and an oxidizer of some sort. this means that they will burn underwater because they dont need the oxygen from the air to stay lit. thats so fucking weird isnt it. im tipsy and its the 4th of july. sorry for the science haha

Don’t you dare apologize for science

Reblogging for science, explosions, and cool hexagons!

i took out about 18k of loans for an illustration degree at a time where i thought i could pay that off in five or ten years-- that i could make money as an artist, pay my rent, pay my bills, pay a couple hundred a month and whittle it down. if i got a job illustrating for a magazine or publisher, just a few of those jobs might clear by debt. lots of places had in-house illustrators then: lots of magazines, interior designers, videogame startups, magazines, even websites. it was possible. i was promised if i worked hard to add college skills to my native talent, it was guaranteed.

i never made it. the economy crashed halfway through my degree. it never recovered. studios fired artists by the thousands and hired them on as freelancers. the housing market crashed and bounced and mutated. rent was insane. the minim wage didn't twitch. but the interest on those unpayable loans went up, and up, and up.

ive paid a couple thousand back, bit by bit. but now i owe 42,000 dollars. there's no reason for it. my lenders just made those numbers up and no one stopped them. i borrowed 18 and payed back maybe 5. no one is losing 42,000 dollars if biden clears that debt tomorrow. my debt's already been sold a few times anyway. that means even the original lender shrugged off the loss.

so yeah, i want the government to bail me out. they bailed out all the banks that fucked the economy before i ever grew up. they bailed out all the corporations who starved their workers of fair pay and steady careers for decade after hungry decade. they sure as fuck bailed out every landlord who gouged 90% of my paycheck out plus my security deposit plus pet rent for the privilege of a shitty little box with plastic carpets and leaking roofs.

all these great big men who have unrepentantly fucked up the economy bigtime has gotten to laugh it off and then chug down a firehose of taxpayer funded absolution. i want the 12,000 that my original lender already traded away, that i paid for a broken dream, to be so easily dismissed. i deserve that. we all do.

one time I had a dream that I unlocked a secret never-before-discovered achievement in Disco Elysium by squeezing into various nooks and crannies and got a special copotype called “Crevice Cop: seek out and inhabit crevices like some kind of man-spider” and I thought yeah!!! man-spider!!! crevice cop!!! this game GETS me!!!

and then I woke up to find that I had fallen partially down into the gap between my partner’s bed and the wall and was horrifically contorted and in agonizing bodily pain from sleeping in a position only comfortable to a brown recluse

HAHA LETS REMOVE LIGHT MODE BC DARK MODE IS BETTER OOOOH LIGHT MODE BURNS MY EYES HAHA LOOK IM SO RELATABLE LOL ROFL LMAO

i need some of you motherfuckers to understand that many of us use light mode not bc we like it more, but bc we suffer from visual conditions that make dark mode actually more eye straining than light mode to the point some ppl might find dark mode straight up unreadable, removing it is not some quirky funny little thing, its literally removing accessibility options

...WTF. :/

The way people are making “barbenheimer” art with cheerful depictions of mushroom clouds is really disturbing to me. Those bombs killed hundreds of thousand in Japan, not to mention the people in the US who were directly affected by the research and testing without ever being made aware of the true danger. It really strikes me that people have become all too removed from the horrors of nuclear war and the testing and deployment of these weapons.

So please, before you decide to go draw pink mushroom clouds for lols, maybe read up on all the people they’ve killed, weather instantly or slowly.
