- Askeladd at first thinks you’re an idiot.
- No person that values their own life continually endangers it for someone else, especially not in their business.
- It does give you some worth in his eyes, at least in the sense that he thinks you’re more ‘useful’ to keep around than others. To keep you as loyal and suicidal as you are, puppy eyes and all, he teaches you some moves. Askeladd has to chuckle as you quite nearly explode with excitement at the prospect of being taught by him.
- He does think it is odd that you’re this admiring of him, especially concerning your treatment of others in the group. You’re so distant to others, after all. It does stroke his ego at times, though.
- You’re one of the few people in the group that is mostly cold with others, barely talking and not even removing your helmet when talking or sleeping. One of the men tried to remove it once to see what you looked like, but their hand was nearly removed by a quick dagger that rested in your own. No one tried again after that.
- No one really knows why you’re so secretive about your appearance, and even Askeladd is a bit curious, as you haven’t even shown him. He’d asked about it a few times, hoping your admiration of him would entice you to show him, but not even that had proven successful.
- The answer to his question was given after a particularly hard battle against a rogue group of English soldiers, leaving nearly everyone injured, yourself not excluded. You excused yourself to take care of your wounds at a nearby river, and Askeladd, in his boredom and curiosity, secretly followed you.
- The sight of you removing your helmet and armor, clothes and undergarments, washing your wounds in the river, humming a song, would forever be etched into Askeladds mind. The moment he saw you, as yourself, he realized a few things.
- The first thing being that not one of the other men should ever find out.
- The second thing being that he’d had such a cute little protector all this time, shielding him from attacks and even taking hits meant for him, and he hadn’t even realized it. As you’re washing the clotted blood out of your hair, he can’t tear his eyes away from the sight.
- After Askeladd’s discovery, he becomes a bit more protective of you, always sleeping in your vicinity just in case. He doesn’t know why his feelings have suddenly changed so harshly, but the image of you in the river keeps replaying in his mind and the thought of any of these pigs looking at you like that nearly makes him puke.
- He doesn’t view himself as a righteous or honest man, but he slowly forms the role of protector for you, not even allowing you to enter into close combat at all anymore. If you ever complain about this to him, he merely deflects your statements, using your nervousness and admiration for him as a way to keep you docile.
- It is at times of peace that Askeladd turns most dangerous, not distracted by war or battle anymore, and therefore completely able to give you his full attention. Over the time you spent as a recruit with Askeladd, his feelings towards you had shifted from utility-based to a bit of an obsession.
- He tells you one calm day that he knows what you look like, and you stiffen up. Reassuring you that he won’t tell anyone, you calm down, though you immediately try to excuse yourself.
- As Askeladd inches closer, he begins to talk, telling you that he’ll take care of you and protect you so that you wouldn’t ever need to pick up a sword again. In return, he merely asks you to remove your helmet for him and come a bit closer. If you respond negatively to his advances, he gets a bit angry.
- You had protected him, and now he protects you.
- Shouldn’t you be a bit more grateful?
