“The first Gay Pride flag was made in 1978 by a man named Gilbert Baker. He gave a meaning to each color.”
Beginners (2010) - Directed by Mike Mills

[ID: the stripes of the original gay pride flag, labelled with their meanings. pink is sex, red is life, orange is healing, yellow is sunlight, green is nature, turquoise is magic, indigo is serenity, and purple is spirit. end ID]

Today I am rotating in my mind.. The overlap between autism and ptsd symptoms + how people talked about neurodivergence before words for it existed + the blorbos of the month (Holmes and Watson)

Holmes Notices Things. That's kind of his whole shtick innit. So like he's definitely seeing it every time Watson flinches at a loud noise. Etc. And he's standing there thinking to himself like....... Huh. He's a little bit like me isn't he

See here's the thing, like. It's more obvious how Watson takes care of Holmes (I.e. reminding him he has human person needs, like eating, and sleeping occasionally) but I don't think it's that one-sided. I think Holmes checks in on him. In his own way. He's getting perceived

They're like

Watson: cocaine isn't breakfast, love. No that doesn't count. I made you toast

Holmes, watching him like a hawk, finding a million tiny clues he's nervous: hey are you alright

SO glad to see this going around again. Happy pride month

Another take I have is that Holmes is putting far less effort into hiding that he's gay than, say, the levels of repression Watson has going on, due at least in part to knowing that he's smarter than the police (as is the basis of his career) therefore nobody could ever prove anything if they tried

Holmes: why yes I am an eccentric bachelor living with another man for many years. My very dearest partner in everything. What's it to you

Watson, sweating: I have a wife

@jewish-harley-quinn said Watson realized he was gay in the army and was sucking and fucking out there & this is a valid take BUT based on nothing except what I made up in my head, I see it slightly differently

Watson did realize he was gay in the army, but he *should* have realized he was gay in medical school, a similarly male dominated environment at the time & you can't tell me watching an older man with his sleeves rolled up covered in blood methodically take apart a human body and explain its workings wouldn't do something for him. He had a weird little crush he didn't think about too hard. He's so normal (lie). Anyway when he was in the army it occurred to him that he was Different and he had a lot of like homoerotic army moments but I don't think he would have had sex yet. He seems kind of shy to me.. idk.. I feel like Holmes had to peel back several layers of repression before he'd let him in. Like he'd be very blatantly flirting with him and Watson's like "ohh god oh fuck" in his head for a while before they got together romantically

[ID: tags from @bandersnatchcrumplesnort that read "#This feels right to me #I think Watson probably did have some gay sexual experiences in the army but minor enough that they could be talked aside #Like a few hand jobs or grinding or something that everyone could pretend was bc there weren't other options #Ya know? #But like admittedly gay shit? Emotions? Tenderness? Serious nudity? Actual fucking? Absolutely not" /end ID]

Yeah you get it. That's the vibe

female characters in les miserables are actually soo nuanced and interesting and yet victor hugo consistently gets labelled as a misogynist who Can't Write Women because none of the women in the play manage to girlboss their way out of the Big Book of Misery because people think that feminism in historical fiction is when a female character chooses to simply sidestep the oppressive patriarchal framework of society

ops tags are so fucking important

Can't let British people have air conditioning because first they'd call it something twee like "the climate fixer" and then in 20 years they'll call it "the climb" or "the climmy"

French kids would call it "le climot", frustrating language officials who would prefer they call it "machine pour le contrôle du climat froide à l'interieure de l'édifice"

the barbie draw your ship meme is kind of getting on my nerves for an extremely petty reason which is that 80% of the ones ive seen do not include the "and" before the ken equivalents name. literally the funniest part of the joke and youre leaving it out
