I love that the tagline for Marvel’s All-New, All-Different Avengers is Earth’s Mightiest Most Dedicated Heroes. Yes. Give me a Thor that’s struggling to stay alive when she takes off the helmet and sets down the hammer. Give me a Kamala that’s watching her dreams come true and trying to live up to them. Show me a Miles Morales marooned in a world that’s not his own, but that he still chooses to fight for….give me heroes who believe in each other and what they’re doing, who fight because it’s the right thing to do. Forget the mighty. Give me Earth’s Most Dedicated Heroes.

it’s insane! its completely insane. it’s happening while i’m still alive and functioning too.
right now, i’m sitting here in my office at sony for powers working on season 2 as they are across town making jessica jones and agents of shield is bringing the secret warriors to life. maria hill is out there. miles is in the cartoon…

Calling It Now
At some point, be it in one of their books or in a crossover or maybe even in Captain America, All-New All-Different Avengers and new Uncanny Avengers are going to fight each other. ANAD are lead by Sam Wilson, Uncanny - by Steve Rogers, who are apparently no longer on good terms after Secret Wars, so they could drag their teams into the battle. Plus, there is an opportunity that I doubt Marvel is going to pass - Miles being on ANAD and Peter being on Uncanny means that they could have two popular Spider-Men duking it out.

You got Black Panther & Blue Marvel as two of the most advanced minds in the world. You got Captain Marvel & Spectrum who are two of the strongest people (not women, not men) muh-fucking people on the planet and they joke on and with each other as if they’re McCarthy & Bullock in The Heat. You got America Chavez who gives absolutely no fucks whatsoever and does the whip dance in order to transport through dimension barriers. Marvel’s announced about 10 titles in the past week, so there’s a lot to talk about. Wanted to get your comments on what’s been announced so far, and let’s start with the news from last Sunday of a new “Spider-Man” #1, from Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli. It’s been widely interpreted from that initial announcement article that Marvel is positioning Miles Morales as “the” Spider-Man of the Marvel Universe. I wanted to ask you directly – do you see Miles now as the main guy in that role?
Alonso: I see Miles as being a a Spider-Man in the Marvel Universe. Beyond that, all I’ll say is keep reading.
That said, Miles landing in the Marvel Universe is a huge thing. How he adjusts to this world – and how it adjusts to him – makes for limitless story possibilities. Miles is going to be swinging through a whole new neighborhood – and it might not be that friendly.
The character has certainly risen to a very high profile – not only within Marvel, but in pop culture in general. There was a Miles joke on “Conan” just a couple days ago. This series is another big step. Miles is one of the biggest new characters introduced during your time as Editor-in-Chief – is there a big sense of pride for you in seeing how much of a success this character has been?
Alonso: Of course. We were cautiously optimistic that the public was ready for Miles, but you never know. Early Internet feedback certainly didn’t indicate that he would be. [Laughs] But when people started reading Brian’s stories, they embraced Miles. Which goes to show that Marvel fans are looking for stories that are universal. They see past color. They look for people that they relate to on a human level. That’s why Miles and Kamala and the new Thor have connected with our readers.
