The best drawing advice I can give to anyone who wants to improve quickly is to use cheap notepad paper and ballpoint pens. I know it's tempting to buy the cool fancy supplies but then you'll feel pressured to not waste them. Use garbage materials and burn through them with zero thought. Only use pen because it forces you to commit and stops you from second guessing your lines and redrawing them over and over. Learn how to use your mistakes and then learn how to get it right the first time. I took numerous art classes and nothing taught me more than buying a big pack of Bics and legal pads and sketching anything that came to mind without hesitation. Fill a few pages everyday with the first thing that comes to mind. Don't rip out pages you don't like, just flip to the next page and try again. Watch yourself improve. If you really want to be a good artist, you need to learn how to draw from the ground up without relying on quality materials.

Hollywood has no concept of what 5th century Romans looked like. If I'm watching a movie about the final days of the Western Roman Empire, I should be seeing zero togas. It's like if you made a movie about the Trump administration, you wouldn't have people dressed like the founding fathers. That's how wrong it is.

This is what 5th century Romans looked like:

I think the problem is that pop culture has this theme park version of history that treats time periods like distinct worlds with no fluidity between them. In Roman Times, people dressed like this vs Medieval Times when people dressed like that. But that is obviously not how time works. The end of the Western Roman Empire led directly into and overlapped with the Middle Ages, and the aesthetics we associate with medieval Europe were already long established.

On a related note, the "barbarians" didn't dress like you think they did either. Less of this:

More of this:

(Art by Angus McBride)

Again, the end of the Western Roman Empire was the beginning of medieval Europe, and it already looked like it.

The notable exception was the Franks, who apparently really did dress like that:

There really is an exception to everything, and it's usually the French.

Vikings/Norse in media ...

What they really looked like...

those is mcdonalds jeans?

Fun fact: those McDonald’s jeans are part of the standard uniform here in Colombia. I’ve tried at least 16x to ask where they source them, if I can buy them from the manager, even going McDonald’s not to order food but just to ask for the jeans. I asked someone high up in their marketing dept here to see if maybe they know which company sourced them, and still couldn’t get my hands on a pair. Apparently employees only get one pair per year. They’re slightly high-waisted, they taper very slightly, they’re always kind of high water at the bottom, and they’re the perfect light jean color. They’re not stiff, they’re not that stretchy, they’re the perfect denim material. They come with a cloth belt that’s either yellow or turquoise, and the stitching on the M is almost sensual. I will not give up

ok so random but my best friend & i are renting a romantic cabin next month. she’s in her early 70s i’m in my early 20s. both of us are “straight” but tbh we have such a strong connection i won’t be surprise if we end up furthering our love. its just gonna be us for 4 days just smoking weed & drinking & enjoying each others company. if it turns into something sexual what are some tips for engaging in lesbian sex for the first time??

I read this hours ago and I literally don’t know how to seriously give you lesbian sex tips because everything else about this ask is TOO wild. How are you gonna just nonchalantly say your best friend is in her early 70s and you’re both straight but you might fuck. Is this Sarah Paulson
