The way we frame our experiences can have such a powerful effect on them that it’s important to have an open mind when reflecting on the roles and stories we carry with us.

Real life doesn’t work like fiction, with clearly defined beginnings and satisfying closures. Things often don’t make sense in the usual way and are much more fluid. Past moments can significantly change in our perception as time goes on.

And beyond being creative and open minded to see a better story, there’s also the possibility of just dropping everything and realizing that there’s a wellspring of freedom right at the surface of this moment. Wherever you are in your life, the present is already wide open for you. And you’re completely free to take your next step.

I feel like my mind can make a hell out of any little negative emotion. And usually it’s because there’s some kind of aversion present, a desperate urge to banish or numb the feeling.

This little poem is a reminder to face difficult emotions with kindness and ease.

Can you ever trust

that you’re safe

in these dark roads of life?

If you open

your heart and

welcome the night,

you’ll see that darkness

is just a new place

to shine your own light.

Normalize seeing inconsistency as a red flag. Never let their mixed signals fool you–indecision is a decision. You deserve someone who is loyal, consistent and sure about you.
