- send asks to people who you want to befriend.
- you will inevitably become mutuals with a swiftie and or a destiel shipper, accept it.
- you canβt have group chats on here like you can on twitter (they tried and well, failed) but you can still make plenty of friends on here without being in a groupchat.
- participate in fandom things.
- block who you want for whatever reason. curating your own online experience is important!
- we celebrate the ides of march and also november 5th 2020.
- we start celebrating halloween in july.

fascinating to watch society increasingly work itself into contortions about how to make a principled distinction between boy tits (pedestrial!) and girl tits (taboo!) because even as the rigid gender binary is slowly chipped away, we canβt handle the fact someone somewhere might be turned on
some breast cancer survivors have breasts but no nipples; are their chests nsfw? if they have their nipple transplanted to their forehead, must it be covered? if i have my nipples moved to my forehead but then later acquire tits via hrt or breast implants, then are they nsfw? why is a trans manβs chest post top surgery sfw but not pre? why is a flat-chested womanβs chest never sfw? what if someone refuses to disclose their AGAB? must they wear Schroedingerβs Sports Bra at all times? if someone transitions, has top surgery, then decides to go back to identifying as a woman, does their chest become NSFW again, or does it remain SFW?
so many philosophical questions! and what a waste of human brain power and technical ability to spend it all on arcane points of content moderation. at what point does this all become such a drag on our economy, that we have to jettison our hangups or else permit innovation to grind to a halt?

i heard a talk about this by a terrific mystery novelist, John Straley, titled βIn Defense of Misanthropes in the Arts.β
Iβll never forget him sharing his candid fear that authors like him, authors who did not want to post on Facebook or Twitter, authors who wanted to be curmudgeonly and left alone, were being steadily squeezed out of the writing world as publishers foisted more and more promotional work directly onto authors. Not everyone is cut out for the spotlight. Not everyone wants to be their own hype man. Not everyone presents well in 280 characters, especially in a space they donβt even want to be present. The time suck, the scrutiny, the punishment for making a βmistakeβ -- all this extracurricular work is so different from actual writing.
Make room for weird reclusive shut-in eccentric misanthropic artists and writers. Donβt forget those voices are worth your attention, too.
