“Hello, my name is Sharlene Pike and I am a black transgender person originating from South Africa and working as a receptionist/host. I moved to the United States 4 years ago alone and without any support, as my parents died in my home country when I was 18. Being a transgender black female immigrant places three discrimination barriers and makes it extremely hard to socialize and find a job to live properly. Nevertheless, I tried my best. I had been working at 7 different companies as a receptionist/host/waitress for these four years, but 2 months ago I lost my job. The reasoning I was given - ‘staff reduction due to COVID-19 complications’. I have been unemployed for these 2 months, but the reason I can’t start a new job is not COVID-19. In February, I was diagnosed with stage-3 esophageal cancer. I had no prior knowledge of my diagnosis as this type of cancer can be quite concealed, and I had only two or three weeks of eating discomfort before I had a medical consultation. The company I was working at had a special program to support staff members who need expensive surgeries or therapies, and I believe my diagnosis was the true reason I was reduced, since it happened just after I told my office I might need an extended medical leave. The sum I have spent on the medical procedures only to clarify the future treatment equals my 3 salaries. The sum I’m asking for is actually covering first 6 months of treatment and the cheapest drug - basically simply to have a chance to survive. I have no health insurance and I can’t take a new job because my health condition significantly deteriorated. The thing that I have learnt throughout these months is that it is very hard to get any, even basic medical help if you are transgender. The death rate of the esophageal cancer is about 30%, which is very high, and I ask you to help me to have a chance to survive. I tried to deal with everything without anyone by my side, but current circumstances left me with no choice but to ask you to donate and share my story. Thank you very much.”

The only things I could possibly suggest in this case would be to call the agency he supposedly sees to verify that he’s even going there at all because as his spouse, she should be privy to non-specific questions about attendance (not even asking the day or what time he goes), or tbh she should give those two assholes what they clearly want: disappear from their lives by divorcing him after the birth and leaving his name off the certificate. Fuck those dudes, they need therapy for real.

Yeah, she should ban then from the delivery room (and also from her life from that point onwards), not just because you really don’t want all the weird funerary vibes at such a vulnerable moment, but because the FIL at least, and probably the husband, is definitely trying to kill her.

I mean come on, he’s trying to ban her from using pain medication during the delivery, and claiming that medical intervention is inherently bad. That’s not going to guarantee that she dies in childbirth, but it’ll certainly increase her chances. And if they’re willing to do that, then what’s really stopping them from finishing them off some other way if it doesn’t work?

i feel that she is profoundly unsafe. all those things of hers they’re packing up? she should have them sent to her mom’s (or sis or whatever) - and then she herself should also go to her mom’s. move the hell OUT of that situation; file for divorce omg.

Reading through this I’m convinced that the FIL straight up killed his wife, the fact that he not only doesn’t take her life and comfort into consideration, seemingly bragged about being a single dad and to top it off, has raised his son to be an almost carbon copy of himself is horrifying. I hope she gets herself out of this situation and gets restraining orders on both of them bc Jesus Christ

admittedly I don’t normally like modern shakespeare adaptations but once I went to see my cousin in a midsummer night’s dream and it opened with a high schooler saying “I don’t wanna read this play” so he sits down and eats an entire chipotle burrito on stage and then immediately falls asleep and the play begins but instead of the forest the faeries all hang out in a rainforest cafe TM and at one point in the middle of a scene the guy from the beginning just slowly drifts across the back of the stage on a skateboard, staring at all the characters as the events of the play transpire in the form of some sort of chipotle-induced coma lucid dream

THAT is EXACTLY what Shakespeare would have wanted

I swear if this isn’t floating around on the internet I’m gonna cry

Oh buddy IT’S ABOUT TO BE. I am like, 98% sure this was my high school’s production and I’ve got photos and video clips like craaaazy…

Here are some fun additions… the Mechanicals were also based on the characters of The Breakfast Club (here I am below, eating an actual Captain Crunch and Pixie Stix sandwich on stage.)

…and the one on the longboard was actually our Puck - he rode it through the whole play in the background. Please note his “Forest Cafe” shirt… which we also had logos for on the cups.

…and we had both a flash mob at the end AND an interlude where myself and one of the other Fairies danced to “Sexy and I Know It” while we were cleaning up the tables at the cafe.

I will post more of this later. I have a DVD at my house and will endure cringing at myself to bring you some quality clips… there’s probably one of K eating the burrito before the start of the play, too.

how to be okay when I see my deadname

real talk tho, i actually have a strategy for this. it was my wife’s idea. the key is to change your default association with the name. that way, instead of automatically thinking of it as your deadname, you think of it as something else’s name, ideally something you like.

what I did was start a new game on Pokémon Omega Ruby and give my starter, mudkip, my deadname. after many hours of play time, whenever i hear or see my deadname, i think of my beloved mudkip, now grown into a handsome, strong swampert.

if pokémon isn’t ur thing, i think the same strategy could be adapted to a pet or a stuffed animal. just a thought.
