Things I love of musical theatre (or musicals in general):

i just got into it (listened to Hamilton at the end of 2016 and fell hard) so I’m making a list and publishing at the end of the year just because I can and I really want to. here I go:

• There is acting AND music. What else do you want. • Every song is filled with emotion. • People singing and dancing at the same time • high notes •the collective silence in the high notes while everyone is like holy shit you’re doing that • collective gasps • tap dancing? Apparently now I like that. • Mike faist • the scenery. • it’s kind of a wholesome community? Everyone is like “I’ve been in your place, you can do it!” and it’s really comforting •Andrew Rannels • and Lin-Manuel Miranda •the cast of dear Evan Hansen??? Amazing •when the characters interact with the audience •you can make full performances of every song •you can act out every song •all of the newsies accents • Seasons of love. Just that. • Mike faist • when people you relate with one character/musical covers a song from another musical (uh Jeremy Jordan singing waving through a window?? Yes) • the Ben’s! Platt, Fankhausen and cook yessss • when someone of the original cast leaves and everyone is sad but also everyone is happy because someone else is going to play them!! •and about that!! You can have like TEN amazing versions of the same character!! •AND ALL OF THEM ARE COOL •you have quotes for every occasion • you literally have quotes for the most ridiculous things and no one gets it but it’s still hilarious •AND WHEN SOMEONE ACTUALLY GETS THEM IT’S AMAZING FOR BOTH PARTS AND YOU FEEL HAPPY AND CONNECTED • kid actors. • knowing those kid actors are just starting and that they have an amazing future ahead and that they deserve it • The last point is about Anthony Rosenthall and Ethan Steiner and I hope they are having a nice day •falsettos • Jemmila and Zazzalil • the entirety of firebringer • team starkid in general • I’ve gotten to meet great people @nina • this is getting cheesy but it has helped me through shitty times and I’m very grateful. •that part in legally blonde the musical where Elle says “your daughter is doing something right” • Christian Borle • rent • Tuck everlasting closed on my birthday. I don’t love this point but it makes me feel feelings. • time from tuck everlasting. A masterpiece, I love it. • did I mention newsies already? They are important. • Mike Faist in his newsies era • the book of Mormon. The whole thing, hilarious. • Ben platt as Elder Cunningham and riffs on man up • Amelie • Shrek the musical basically because grumpy is lord farquaad’s dad and it’s hilarious • i don’t know anymore I’m finishing this almost at midnight • hairspray • be more chill, the waitress, moana. • I’m still super new in this musical thing, I feel like a fake theatre kid but I’m still really happy about everything in this list. Listen to all of the musicals I’ve mentioned. They’re amazing

popular musicals according to my roommate, kagaintheskywithdiamonds

Falsettos: jewish boy has unhappy family, people sing and are gay (one of the songs is Jason's Bar Mitzvah) he doesn't want a bar mitzvah
Book of Mormon: they make fun of religion. written by the same guy who wrote something else, but i can't remember what the something else is. (do you know what religion?) obviously mormonism but I got the idea they were making fun of religion in general
Fun Home: is that the one with the lesbians from next door? (no, that's falsettos) well then write that down (it is about lesbians) well good I was in the right ballpark
Groundhog Day: it's like the movie except phil is some sort of cool dude frat boy and he shoots the groundhog and i think a lot of the plot is different (if i had my time again is a song) it's either phil talking about how he doesn't want to change his life, or the female character talking about how she does, or both. or some combination of those factors
Rent: there's this video in my youtube feed called "rent: look pretty and do as little as possible" I haven't watched that video but youtube keeps suggesting it to me
Be More Chill: there's a squip and it's like a drug but it's not a drug and it's a supercomputer and it tells you what to do and a guy takes the squip because he wants to be cool bc he wants to not be a creepy masturbator but it backfires I guess and I think someone burns down a house at some point. Oh, and the squip is from japan, that's very important (after hearing the name "michael in the bathroom") okay so there's a guy who's at a party but he's having a mental breakdown so he hides in the bathroom and people are knocking on the door to get him to come out
Chicago: does anybody really know what time it is? does anybody really care? that's all I know about chicago (that's not even from the musical) oh shit! well then. I have no idea what chicago's about. I think chicago's the name of a band.
Wicked: okay okay! so it's like a highschool au of wizard of oz and the wicked witch of the west is like sympathetic and then there's the good witch who's like popular girl and she tries to help the bad witch be popular but i guess that backfires and at some point the bad witch becomes evil and becomes the bad witch from the movie. and the wizard actually has powers I guess even though a huge plotpoint of the movie was that he doesn't have powers. and dorothy is not there. and i have been told that the plot doesn't make a heck of lot of sense, not on its own and not as part of the wizard of oz lore
Spongebob Squarepants: it's got lots of references to the show, and it's a good romp and a good time so far as I can tell. I don't actually know what happens in it though. I think there's something about a volcano
The Lightning Thief: there was a book series that was made into a movie that none of the fans like, and i think this musical is also based on that book series. i have not read the book
Dear Evan Hansen: i get it mixed up with all the other musicals you like and i can't think of anything distinctive about this one. i'm gonna assume there's something about gay people. i think there's a guy writing journals to himself, and i think that's where the title comes from. (there are no gay people) oh shit. what are the odds?
Something Rotten: it's like shakespeare's really popular and then there's a dude who says i don't really think he's hot shit so i'm gonna make a play that's better than his and then some guy who might be a time traveler or something shows up and he's like musicals are a thing in the future and the guy is like that's cool I'm gonna make a musical and then there's a bunch of jokes and references to les mis and things. and then the guy makes a musical called omelette which i guess is a parody of hamlet and i don't know if it has anything to do with eggs. and i think at some point that guy and shakespeare have some sort of face off on stage and there's a song about that.
Hamilton: okay so. I guess Hamilton's hot because everyone loves him, and it's basically the story of hamilton's political business, and the duel with aaron burr, and everything is done in rap, and I don't know how historically accurate it is.
next to normal: I've never heard of this
Les Mis: oh boy it's French and there's the French revolution and it's the peasant's revolt aaaaand that's all I really know. and i guess it's the one where it's no talking and everyone's singing all the time, or at least that was the case in the movie
In Trousers: never heard of that one either (that's the one that's before falsettos) I didn't realize falsettos had a prequel
Heathers: (I forgot this one) so there's a girl who fakes her own suicide for some reason and everyone's so moved by her story and her suicide note and then she says I'm bigger than John Lennon and she becomes everyone's favorite martyr I guess and I don't know what happens after that
Little Shop of Horrors: There's a plant and it eats blood and its name is Aubrey 2 because it's named after a girl the guy likes and i guess he has to kill people to feed it because it's a weird alien thing. and it's a different weird alien thing than Vash.
Avenue Q: Sesame Street for adults with some questionable humor
Legally Blonde: Ooh I kinda saw that one once at my high school. but it's not really fair bc i actually saw it. ditzy rich girl goes to law school to be a lawyer and everyone thinks she can't do it but she does it.

Y’ALL HEAR ME OUT...

so after watching jlp and mean girls on broadway earlier this month friends noticed that derek klena and kyle selig look similar when i showed them my selfies with them... y’all know i want them to be in a musical together so i made a fake one in my head.

so idk what the title will be yet but it’s gonna star derek klena, kyle selig, christy altomare and erika henningsen. stellar cast right? okay let’s move on to the plot...

so i do have names for the characters, just so you know:

derek klena as mike carson

kyle selig as chris/kit carson

christy altomare as vic hemley

erika henningsen as ally foster

okay back to the plot... mike and chris are brothers who are very close with each other. mike is getting married to his longtime girlfriend vic, a nurse who suffers an anxiety disorder (yeah idk how she became a nurse too). because mike is getting married chris has to come home. now, chris here is a successful journalist in new york city but the only problem he has going on right now is how his high school sweetheart and now ex-girlfriend did not accept his proposal. chris is low key jealous that his brother is marrying his first love and yeah there’s that.

now you’re wondering... “WHO THE HELL IS ERIKA’S CHARACTER HERE?” okay so, erika’s chatacter is ally. now ally was a classmate of chris since elementary school. in high school she developed a huge crush on chris but never told him. she is one smart and tough gal, for she used to be a biochem engineer. however, even if ally is super smart, she was not happy with her job, so she quits being a biochem engineer and ended up being a wedding singer. get it now?? so here’s the cliché part!! ally happens to be mike and vic’s wedding singer and that prompts her and chris to spend time together.

in terms of music.. i imagine it to be classic broadway sounding. it has a sondheim feel to it or something.
