I think people need to be more comfortable with illegalism and I’m not kidding. Of course the more legal something is, the safer and easier it is to do, but the more people who disregard the law, the harder it is to enforce. There are plenty of laws on the books that people just ignore and are never or rarely policed.

Becoming more comfortable with little illegal activities makes you more comfortable with bigger more important illegal activities. Additionally, it is crucial to build a wall of silence. Nobody talks everybody walks.

People who give out food without a permit, hold a march without a permit, grow a garden without a permit, are more likely to be people you could turn to to work with on preventing an eviction, or keeping people out of cop hands, or helping your friend Jane get crucial healthcare when it’s not legal in your state.

Communities comfortable with these acts won’t call the cops, and then nobody knows that it’s happening.

People have got to shift from both the idea that lawful = good/ illegal = bad, and that the illegality of something means that’s the end of it, and the only fight left is to make it legal again.

yeah uh... don't do this :)

as a fanfic writer! who has a few semi-abandoned fics! if you do this i will personally bite you with my teeth. you are disrespecting art and the love people put into their work by pretending that an AI can even compare to it

#my wife is on the SOR for being gay #no joke #she hit on a girl in a straight bar once #in 1997 #and while the girl was into it #the off duty cop sitting nearby was not #and so he arrested her for ‘soliciting homosexual activity’ #which in our state was still a felony #in 1997 (and would remain so until Lawrence v Texas in 2003) #and since ‘soliciting homosexual activity’ was a felony and a sex crime #she got put on The List #she is still on there to this day #because it costs MONEY to ask a judge to take you off #and she has tried four times#since 2003 #to get taken off the SOR #but every time the judge has said something like ‘no you pled guilty to the crime i can’t possibly take you off the sex offender registry’ #with no acknowledgement of what the actual crime was #(the crime of being a butch lesbian hitting on a cute girl who was into it) #(in 1997)

Reposting these tags with consent from the person that wrote them. The post about the Sex Offenders Registry is locked, but these tags are too important to go unnoticed.

Younger queer people need to realize that the SOR being used against queer people simply for being queer isn’t some ancient history thing. It still impacts queer people today. And it can quite easily be used that way again.

Listen!

When you hear people throwing around the talking point of “well there’s a high rate of sex offenders in the trans/queer community”, this has to do with why.

Being on the sex offender registry isn’t inherently equivalent to whatever horrific sex crime you’re meant to think of when it’s mentioned. It evokes imagery of pedophilia and rape, but there is a lot that can get you put on it and not a lot you can do to be taken off of it.

Public crossdressing used to be able to get you put on the sex offender registry (and by used to I mean as recently as 2011).

Public urination (you know, the literal only option for someone who’s homeless and doesn’t have access to public bathrooms, a venn diagram where trans people are more likely to rest in the meeting zone) can get you put on the sex offender registry.

Sex work is pretty much an automatic way to end up on the sex offender registry if you’re caught. (This is especially weaponized against black trans women who do sex work)

“Deviant Sexual Intercourse” (aka literally any sexual activity aside from penis-in-vagina penetration) could get you on the sex offender registry as recently as the early 2000s. That effectively impacts the entire queer community in one way or another.

The sex offender registry is, first and foremost, useless. It tells you nothing about what someone did. It’s mentioned to quickly associate a person or a group of people with the worst possible crimes imaginable.

It has been used against us time after time and it will continue to be used for that.

And this is where the push of purity discourse in fandom shows its fetid, fascist underbelly.

This is why they are making being trans in public a felony in some states.

Has anyone told the newcomers not to interact with corporations and questionable celebrities? Yeah, that's how we render them useless and make this site unprofitable. The last Twitter exodus had some slimy things crawl in, and we swept most under the rug out of sight.

And on the mobile app, if you hold and drag the make a post button, a fun thing happens.

the x files is funny because at the time it was “progressive” or whatever to have the ultra-rational, levelheaded character be a woman

but it’s also a show where all the fucked up alien shit actually is real, so she’s just constantly wrong about everything

What’s funny is how often they’re both wrong. Mulder will be like “the victims all had their livers scooped clean out this is obviously the aliens escalating from cattle mutilation” and Scully will be like “don’t be silly Mulder this is clearly just a serial killer who’s really good with surgical tools” and then it turns out the actual killer is an immortal sewer man who comes out ever quarterly century to feast on human liver.

I cannot stress enough that this is literally the plot of an actual episode

you understand

reblogging to normalize. because we really should be uplifting sex workers as bread winners. Also because they should be able to show their face in public without fear of repercussions??? (cough cough), like this gentleman.

Honestly its unhinged and hilarious but yet also seriously something I want to see more of

Anyway…👀

Reblog if you’re a cheap whore. Or respect cheap whores. Or have the power to turn young people into cheap whores. (they can never tell which)

support whores both cheap and expensive!

People are.. feeding unfinished fanfics into ai generators.. so they can get an ending to the story???

What the fuck is wrong with y'all

Do you not understand you're stealing someone's art/writing against their will and without their permission and teaching an AI with it???

Every other week since stranger things came out people decide that Eddie smells bad and he’s not hygienic and doesn’t shower and is gross … and every single time I cannot for the life of me see a justification that isn’t classism or prejudice against his subculture. Because why the fuck do you think he stinks? But no one else?? “oh he’s a teenager they all do” well the show is composed of teenagers since the beginning and this is the first time this discurse has come up. “Oh he looks dirty” did he? But did he tho!? When we first see him? Does Eddie look dirty when we meet him or when he’s been on the run for 2 days???

And don’t start with the mattress because that’s not his mattress!! When they’re looking for tapes to save Nancy in his room we see his bed still has a mattress on!

It's thinly veiled "he lives in a trailer park, therefore-" bullshit.

The fact that some people think that fic writers need to sit here and explain why some random ass person shouldn't take their work and feed it to an AI, rather than them having to explain why they feel they have any right and are entitled to someone else's words to satisfy their inability to wait a goddamn minute for a finished story or write their own is a real EXIT THIS DISCUSSION IMMEDIATELY AND GO FUCK YOURSELF.

I don't need to explain shit, don't touch my stuff. Period.

No LMFAO. You do actually own your fanfic because you wrote it. You just don't own the character you use or the world you set it in.

Think of like the Simpsons cartoon. If they include Mickey Mouse, Disney can sue because they own Mickey (and Disney DOES sue Ima), but the Simpsons continues to own that episode. The show is still theirs. They wrote it, produced it, etc, but profits off that episode have to be shared with Disney should Disney win the lawsuit. (I wrote that then remembered Disney owns fox now but pls ignore that fact I forgot LOL)

With you and your fanfic, you own the work you created. If you make profit off it, that has to go to the original author/creator of the thing, but that's only if you make profit. It's why ao3 is so anti-profiting off fanfiction. The profit is the problem. Without profit you are the copyright owner of your work, regardless of if the characters are fully original.

Also it being "public domain" is entirely horseshit. If it's not yours it would belong to the original creator, NOT the public domain this person is just stupid all around.

The thing nobody warns you about when you decide to start a crowdfunded publishing side-gig is that you'll find yourself hoarding the dumbest fucking boxes because what if you end up needing to ship something that just happens to be that exact size and shape? Packaging is expensive! That's where most crowdfunded projects with physical rewards screw themselves, after all – working out their shipping costs and failing to budget for the cost of a box to put it in. Every box you throw away just might have been the one that keeps you under budget, and by God, you can't take that chance!

Honestly, all I'm hearing is that I should start a crowdfunded publishing side-gig, because I keep all those boxes for no fucking reason, anyway. At least this way, I'd have a good excuse!

Convincing people to pay you to do some unhinged thing you were going to do anyway is in fact the only reason to start a crowdfunded publishing side-gig.

before you see something and recoil at the price, be it handmade items, services, art, whatever. when you see something and you think, "i wouldnt pay more than $15 for that," you seriously have to ask yourself: if i were offered that same $15, would i make this object? would i spend the time to teach myself this skill to get this done, for $15? would i do this service for that same $15? would that be worth my time and effort?

yeah, that handmade necklace is $140. you might only be willing to pay $40 for that same necklace, but would you make it for $40 if someone asked you to?

you want to pay the babysitter fifteen bucks for the three hours she's watching your child. but would you honestly do that for $15? would you go into a stranger's house and change their baby's diaper and care for its needs, for $15?

you think its ridiculous that this artist is charging $30 for an icon commission. would you spend years catching up to their skill level to make that same drawing, start using your skill to make some extra cash, and then spend three hours on a drawing just to get $15?

would you be willing to work for $5 an hour?

no?

then don't be angry when someone else won't.

you don't have buy the service, it's okay if some things aren't within your budget or comfort zone, and it's also okay if the product isn't worth that much money to you. but do not be angry. be glad, because you know of another person out there who isn't being exploited for their time.

So true. My husband is a graphic designer, freelance. And he charges for the project itself, his time to do the thing, plus any extras he may need to do in order to complete the project for them, especially if he needs to start altering files or creating art for the project.

He regularly charges $3000+ for his work. And he always has work and repeat clients.

Don't sell artists short just because you think it's not worth it.
