Pre-Reboot Amy
Okay I’ve seen people express confusion over why some people take issue with Amy’s pre-reboot Archie portrayal so I’ll express my thoughts as to why.
1. Her treatment by the writers
Amy was often treated terrible by the writers of the book many potshots were taken at her in Sonic Grams they sneered at someone who simply said they liked sonamy saying “You’re like one of three people”(this is actually pretty laughable considering Amy and Sonamy are the more mainstream things from this franchise enough to get a nod in Pop Culture shows such as the Simpsons) and published anti Amy fan art in the grams too one featured a demonic looking Amy with red flaming eyes in a cage while Sonic stood outside it wearing a “Team SonSal” sash and holding a Team SonSal sign pleading with fans to “Keep Amy from getting her hands”on him. Another instance is when someone also wrote that they liked her new design after she was aged into it in Archie the writers wrote back “DONT forget it was an immature act that led to that”(I’ll get more into this later).Her Moebius counterpart Rosy the Rascal rather than being a dark mirror of her was instead just the fandoms’ misconceptions of Amy mixed into a character. To top it off in that instance Sonic was used as a mouth piece for the writers views on Amy he flat out tells her to her face he can’t tell the difference between her and Rosy as both are “Obsessive, hammer happy and can’t take a hint” tell me that’s something an in character Sonic would tell her. In an earlier instance he states “I take everything Amy says with a shaker of salt” when she’s always been one of his most moral friends and Sonic may have issues with the way she acts on her feelings but he’s always taken her seriously when need be. Amy is also shown to be a punishment for Sonic in issue 174 she’s used to torment him and Sonic refers to Sally as “Cruel” for teaming them up in 193 and from Sally’s cheeky reply it’s clear she did it to screw with him.From the way she’s talked about by the writers and the fan art used to portray her in the grams plus the way just having to spend time with her is shown to be punishment for Sonic, it’s clear the writers didn’t like her and wanted to extend that to the fandom.
2.Her age up in Archie ruined her rep
In the games Amy’s age was changed from 8 to 12 with Adventure. To stay true to this and keep her recognizable to game fans, Archie had to age Amy up. They choose to do this by having Amy wish on the Ring of Acorns to be older when the ring was meant to be used to save the sick queen not only does this make Amy look selfish but they decide to make it so she only aged PHYSICALLY not mentally meaning she was still walking around with the mind of an 8 year old adding an unsettling element to her and Sonamy(which wasn’t even needed as enough people already make a stink about the only 3 year age gap as it is).Archie also used this as reason to not like her as seen in the gram answer I mentioned earlier which is ironic considering this is something they made up and not something canon Amy did they essentially made up a reason for readers to be sour on her.
So yeah I feel these are the main reasons why I feel some Amy fans take issue with her pre-reboot counterpart.
