Love how Thief King Bakura’s tomb robbing translates nicely to Ryou’s love for TTRPGs. What better way to translate an ancient tomb robber to the modern day than by making his reincarnated self a fan of games where you get to explore dungeons and take the loot within.
(Admittedly Ryou seems to prefer either DMing or running his White Wizard character than any actual thief type role, but that’s an interesting contrast too, between TKB being consumed by his anger and rage towards the monarchy to the point that he doesn’t care about anything but getting his revenge vs Ryou’s gentler nature and willingness to do anything to help his friends, even at cost to himself as reflected in his White Wizard character.)
Another fun bit of TKB and Ryou parallel: making Ryou the son of an archaeologist/antiques dealer and museum owner. After all, his dad was all of one step away from just flat out stealing the Ring in DSOD, and his actions led to Ryou being saddled with it. And after all, just where does the line between tomb robbing and archaeology lie?

low effort sketch bc I found out recently that Ryou’s condo has a back veranda and I think that they would hang out there a lot and watch sunsets.
Or, at least, he tried to mimic those movements he had memorized, had run through his mind over and over, trying to decipher their meaning.
But Bakura’s touch wasn’t as elegant. No, his thumb brushed too hard against cheekbone, his palm pressed too closely against skin.
