My current-ish recommendations:
Kidnapped : “First Lizzy had learned of Mr. Darcy’s hand in breaking Jane’s heart, and then he had offered the most insulting marriage proposal in history. Could a day get worse? Only if she were to be threatened at sword-point, tied up, and whisked away by a rogue, with only the world’s most arrogant man to watch over her. Luckily, that wasn’t very likely to happen…” Outlandish and dramatic, and thoroughly entertaining.
Shine : “Beth’s last summer before college was going perfectly well until the arrival of Will Darcy threatened to change everything. After repeated misunderstandings, can they ever manage to be friends?” I’ll be honest, I haven’t read this one since high school, but I enjoyed it then. Modern AU.
A Rush of Blackbirds : “Not being able to breath the air at Longbourn after Mr. Collins’ longwinded and insincere proposal, Elizabeth heads for the woods where she runs into an injured Mr. Darcy.” Cute, long, enjoyable read!
Twenty Months : “Today was the day Fitzwilliam Marcus Darcy would reclaim his sense of propriety, snap out of this funk, and bring pride back to the Darcy name. And then a pregnant girl decided it would be a very good idea to stop by and ruin his life.” Very different from the book, but the characters are true to themselves. And I just love a good modern AU.
Closer : “Modern P&P. A love story. Lizzie’s a ballet dancer that may never dance again; Darcy’s a doctor that helped save her leg. A story exploring love and how it drives people to do some of the things they do.” Again, a great modern AU.
Fix You : “When an unexpected event disrupts the Netherfield ball, Mr. Darcy finds out that leaving Hertfordshire and Elizabeth Bennet behind is more easily said than done.” Regency, forced marriage scenario after Mr. Bennet falls ill. Classic.
some say it makes the world go round : “Modern AU. Lizzy Bennet has only met Will Darcy twice before, but she is certain that she does not like him. Then, her sister gets engaged to his best friend, and she and Will are roped into the wedding planning. Suddenly, they’re going to florists and picking out his suit together. But there’s nothing going on between them. Really.” Short, easy read. Entertaining and cute!
