I made a gofund.me because my cats and I are going to be in between places after my parents' house sells and the leftover money from the estate (after debts are paid) is dispersed. I'm trying to find work, but I need help just getting in somewhere with enough money to stay.

UPDATE

I've got a move out date of July 9th, which will ultimately be good, but is terrifying also. Thanks to everyone who have already donated and shared. I legitimately can't describe how comforted I am by your support. Here's the link again for those who may not have seen it. Thank you, I love you.

opens news article. closes three pop up ads. backs out of the survey page i was redirected to. closes a pop up video ad. rejects cookies to make the cookie window go away. dismisses the requests to receive notifications from the website and the offers to sign up for it. dodges ninja lasers and poisonous arrow traps. body of the page is finally visible. i have reached my monthly limit and can’t read the article

Commander Awake Remembrance of These Valiant Dead Kia Hua Ko Te Pa Snap Back To Reality Oops There Goes Gravity

It sounds funny and memey and at first glance, we see that it's preserving three pieces of cultural history. Let's go deeper.

Awake Remembrance of These Valiant Dead

From Shakespeare's Henry V, but also saying that we remember everyone who died because of you.

Kia Hua Ko Te Pai

From New Zealand's national anthem God Defend New Zealand, meaning "Let Goodness Flourish".

John is Māori and he speaks Te Reo Māori, as evidenced by him naming his daughter Kiriona (the Te Reo Māori translation of Gideon in the bible), and his friends saying he looked like a Māori pink panther.

John, a self-proclaimed God, failed to defend New Zealand. And he cannot Let Goodness Flourish. Making him say it aloud is massive fuck you.

Snap Back To Reality, Oops There Goes Gravity

Obviously a funny reference to Eminem's Lose Yourself, but there's two parts here.

"Snap Back To Reality" as in. Stop running from this and own up to what you did. This isn't a fun fairy tale. Humanity is fractured and broken because of you.

"Oops There Goes Gravity" as in. You destroyed the earth and MADE US FLEE INTO SPACE.

Making Jod say this aloud is a massive fuck you because her entire name

my friend asked me to pretend to be her boyfriend because her parents are homophobic af but they ended up hating me so much that they were glad when she said she was gay task failed successfully

okay so

  • be a goth. conservative christian parents don't approve of goth men. show up to their house wearing all kinds of satanic symbols if you can
  • know more about religion than the parents. they'll try to introduce you to christianity because you don't exactly look like a christian but your dad's an ex priest and has a phd in theology so *cracks knuckles* you'll correct them on every little mistake they make
  • call your fake girlfriend every annoying petname under the sun. i'm talking about babu, shmoopie, snuffleupagus. when you run out of annoying english terms of endearment call her shit like "my liver" or "my little cabbage" (actual greek terms of endearments but the parents won't know this they'll just think you're annoying :3)
  • to continue this, talk to your fake girlfriend in the most high pitched annoying voice possible but talk in your regular voice to everyone else
  • stare at her older brother's ass for just a little too long
  • have an annoying laugh. think of sybil fawlty but a stereotypical villain playing a church organ in his castle
  • let them quote bible verses to you. then ask "so when were those two destroyed for sodomy?". it's very funny to do this when judas kisses jesus, and it's even funnier when you've just corrected them over a minor mistake in church history
  • ask WHY abraham was begging for sodom. it doesn't make sense to you why a good christian man would go and beg for tha-
  • be over possessive of your fake gf (dont really do this, it's just an act)
  • go and fuck her brother in an alleyway. the parents won't know about this so it's an optional step
  • use words no one knows the meaning of. do this without realising because you always talk like that
  • just be yourself! that's enough on its own to make them despise you tbh

yes

The original tweet is the corniest thing I’ve ever fucking seen

Let's see, more money than I could possibly spend in my life vs. being sexually harassed, called a slur, and then have them stiff me not only a tip, but probably the entire bill. Hm. That's a hard one

You can't leave that part in the tags

It's always good to remember that fascists aren't always the ones with a desire to dominate and control, it's an ideology based around "respecting natural order" and relies just as much on those who desire to be dominated by the order. Yes, even in their dreams they're still serving these people, because they dream of a world where these people are superior, and being obsequeious sycophants is their way of making that reality.

Obligatory recommendation for Prof. Altemeyer's The Authoritarians, where he talks about exactly that

Authoritarian Submission. Everybody submits to authority to some degree. Imagine a world in which people ignored traffic laws and sped through red lights. The cost of auto insurance would shoot through the roof (although the line-ups to buy it would become much shorter). But some people go way beyond the norm and submit to authority even when it is dishonest, corrupt, unfair and evil. We would expect authoritarian followers especially to submit to corrupt authorities in their lives: to believe them when there is little reason to do so, to trust them when huge grounds for suspicion exist, and to hold them blameless when they do something wrong. We don’t expect absolutes here; people are much too complicated to completely, always, blindly submit, no matter what. But IF the RWA scale truly measures the tendency to be an authoritarian follower, those who score highly on it should tend to do these things, right? So do they?

Well, they will tell you that people should submit to authority in virtually all circumstances. If you give them moral dilemmas (e.g. should one steal an absurdly expensive drug to save a life?) they’re more likely to say, “The law is the law and must be obeyed” than most people are. High RWAs also say they would bow more to show respect for their fathers, the president of companies where they worked, and so on, than most people indicate. (An astronomer suggested I ask about the bowing, which I thought was silly, but he was right. “Social scientists are such blockheads!”)

american leftists seem extremely focused on anti imperialism (good) but rarely- if at all- discuss decolonization in their own fucking country, despite acknowledging that it is a settler colonial state.

im serious about this though. as an urban indian, i definitely cant speak on this as much as a rez indian could. but i know from talking to rez friends i have and from what the american indian movement has screamed for over the years that we need land we can grow on, we need clean water, we need to allow the wildlife that once lived in this land to live here again (meaning you need to listen to us before building those high speed rails you all get so hard over).

you cant drool over the zapatistas while ignoring people in your own country who have a similar goal

silly me I never provided things to read on the topic of decolonization! I’d personally suggest the following as “beginner level” essential reading to understand decolonization:

Discourse on Colonialism (Aimé Césaire) - this is more a focus on colonization, but I feel it’s a necessary read in my opinion as in order to understand decolonization I believe it’s important to first understand colonization.

Wretched of the Earth (Franz Fanon)

Decolonization is Not a Metaphor (Tuck, Yang)

also an “easy to process” read, to understand landback specifically here in Turtle Island, I’d suggest reading The Red Deal (there is a pdf, I don’t mean the article with the same title)

Discourse on Colonialism (PDF, ebook, mobi)

The Wretched of the Earth (PDF, ebook)

Decolonization is Not a Metaphor (PDF)

The Red Deal (PDFs of Part 1, Part 2, Part 3)
