The psds were created for gifs with specific colour palette/lighting/contrast. To get the best results, try matching your gifs with the original ones in terms of the aforementioned attributes. I also encourage you to analyze my psds. They are really simple, with relatively few layers, and if you go through them (from the bottom to the top, step by step), you can dissect my thinking process while I was creating them. For me, it always comes down to adding more brightness or contrast/specific tone, alternatively reducing contrast/saturation. The names of the psds highlight their main feature. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

The hands of the king are the hands of a healer. And so the rightful king could ever be known.

But I’ll not widow the world. I’ll tell my human tale, tell it against the current of that vaster, that inhuman telling. I’ll measure time by losses and destructions. Because the world is so rich in detail, all of it so frail; because all I love is imperfect; because my memory’s flaw isn’t in retention but organization; because no one asked.
I’ll tell once and for all how someone lived.

— Li Young Lee, from “Furious Versions,” in The City in Which I Love You

“When we buried my mother, some of the light went out of me, and it seemed proper that I should go and live in a place where all the light shone outwards and none of it was there for us.”

— Jeanette Winterson, from Lighthousekeeping

Federico García Lorca, from Hour of Stars; Collected Poems (ed. by Christopher Maurer)

You think about being small, a child. No. Smaller, a bird. Smaller still, a small bird. You think about the art of holding, of being held. This hand can crush you.
