The Kailasa Temple (Cave 16) is the largest of the 34 Buddhist, Jain and Hindu cave temples and monasteries at the Ellora Caves of Maharashtra in India. • The building process started in (c. 756 - 773), with some elements completed later. • The temple contains a number of relief and free- standing sculptures. • Virtually every surface is lavishly embellished with symbols and figures, though only traces remain of the paintings which originally decorated it. •The temple has carvings of different forms of Shiva and other Hindu divinities along with various mythological scenes from Hindu epics.
