Hey there! Name's Danny. Welcome to my spot. DB, O-Parts, Star Wars, Spider-Man, MCU stuff mostly. Enjoy!

Regarding Krillin’s PTSD

Yes, I’m still on this, because people keep insisting that he doesn’t have it, and if he’d had it, it would have shown up “long before Super”. I disagree that it never really showed until then but regardless, that’s not always the case, as is evidenced by Mayo Clinic’s definition of what PTSD is.

Frankly, this is quite evident in him and his characterization, but just to drive it home, let’s take a look at some of the symptoms here and compare it to his behavior in the series, hmm?

This one’s pretty obvious, imo. We’ve seen Krillin have flashbacks. We’ve seen him remember things unbidden. We’ve also seen him physically and emotionally react to triggers of these memories, such as when he froze up and his mind blanked out upon seeing Freeza and his army again, or when he freaked out and tried to hide seeing old enemies in the forest of terror again despite being far stronger now than many of them should have been. Visceral, visible reactions.

Now, let’s move on a bit:

This one we also see in the same scene above, as well as throughout the series. Krillin’s initial avoidance of Cell Max, for example, or when he froze up initially during the battle with Freeza’s army. But even back in the original Dragon Ball, when he encountered two of the monks who used to bully him back at Orin Temple, he instantly wanted to leave. He became quiet, more reserved and timid, and wanted to quit and get out of there. Instantly. This is a thing he’s struggled with, to varying degrees, his whole life, and later trauma has only served to amplify it. It’s something he’ll likely have to face for a long time to come as well.

This set he has two aspects in particular: Negative thoughts about himself and lack of interest in activities he once enjoyed. Krillin loved being a martial artist and prided himself in honing his skills. As time went on, however, we see that interest start to fade, starting in the Buu arc and coming to a head in Super. He simply loses his drive for it. Slowly fizzles out in him. As for negative thoughts about himself… well, he is an abuse survivor. He’s had those drilled into his head since he was a child. This is a trend that continues on into adulthood, down to him feeling he’s not strong or skilled enough to even beat opponents he realistically would have no trouble beating. It’s also quite possible these may come into play in explaining 18′s growing frustrations with Krillin’s state of mind and behavior later.

The final category here is actually quite interesting, as I feel that it very much applies. Krillin is very easily startled and frightened, and overwhelming guilt and shame are things he’s felt since at least the Saiyan arc, and we see that continued into Super. But I also can’t help but wonder if him becoming careless in his job, taking more risks and not paying attention would be classed as just as trouble concentrating, or possibly even self-destructive behavior, at least at a subconscious level? I mean, he was behaving more recklessly, kept his defenses down and let himself actually get shot as a result. But I’m not a psychologist so that’s not really my purview. We do know however that he experiences several of these symptoms as well. In short, I think there really is, medically speaking, a lot more evidence that Krillin is indeed living with PTSD than there is against the idea. Just felt I needed to get this out there.

"yes, yes, mr. raditz, sorry to keep you waiting" (in the english version, she calls him "raditz dear" lol)

"heaven is right here! fuhahahaha!"

Man, I remember how I discovered Harukanaru Densetsu. I was in GameStop looking at used games and saw it in the no-box DS section. Since there was no box at all, I had no idea what it was about, what the gameplay was like, nothing. Just saw a little DS cart with the DBZ logo on it, and my primitive fanboy brain went “MUST BUY” and nabbed it for $10. I actually had a ton of fun with the card-based system.

✿ for K18 :P

✿ - Sex headcanon Krillin and 18's relationship actually wasn't sexual for a while. Krillin has several hangups about himself, and 18 a lot of past trauma about others putting their hands on her and losing her agency. It takes some time before they're able to move beyond that and take that next step. When they finally do, however, it becomes so frequent that even Roshi complained. And surprisingly, 18 is usually the one to initiate it.

Just for some fun, and because I don’t think I ever shared this here before, have my only real stab at fan “art”. And by art, I mean tackling a manga panel with a colored pencil. I can’t draw well myself at all, but I do sometimes enjoy stuff like this. It isn’t perfect, but I’m proud of it.  And honestly, any and all y’all should be proud of doing whatever you enjoy too.

Who REALLY Raised Gohan?

Let’s see here: -Works the 9-to-5

-Puts his work responsibilities over all else.

-Is a doting family man who loves his ladies

-Insists on having them nearby when working

-Opts to start training again for the sake of his family

Hmm, seems to me people may have been crediting the wrong influences in Gohan’s life. :P

Shoutout to the post I told no one to take too seriously that so many proceeded to take very, very seriously. lol ...I lowkey do stand behind this to a point though. Uncle Krillin was a bigger influence on Gohan than people give him any credit for.

Not so much a headcanon but a confession: I crackship Krillin x Gine. There's just something about Krillin messing around with his best friend's mom that seems hot to me.

Well that’s certainly new.I should probably clarify: we’re not so interested in what’s being shipped as we are headcanons or meta about the characters. But I’m not gonna blame anyone for not knowing that.

Never forget the greatest unsung ship of all time. @xfadedmemoriezx

I almost forgot about this lmao

According to a rumor, Toriyama initially gave Future Trunks a sword due to 19 & 20 being the ones who were originally going to terrorise the future; and since they could absorb ki, Future Trunks needed a way to circumvent their ability by avoiding hand-to-hand / ki blast based combat. However, when Toriyama decided to switch to 17 & 18 who couldn't absorb ki the sword didn't have a story purpose anymore thus it was quickly broken and not used anymore in the Cell arc. Is there any truth to this?

Avatar

Well, 19 and 20 were originally the only Androids, but I'm not 100% sure that's the sole reason for the sword. I've yet to see anything on that myself, but it's possible.

It’s also worth noting that, given Toriyama’s love for undermining certain popular anime tropes, it may just as well be him sort of introducing and then undermining the Overpowered Swordsman trope that tends to appear in a lot of anime. It also seems sort of odd that Trunks wouldn’t have suggested or brought similar weapons for them, given 19 and 20 were still the sole Androids when Toriyama was writing Trunks’ warning. In fact, they’re rather infamously mentioned by name in the manga, while the anime had the benefit of hindsight and managed to avoid that issue.

Also worth noting that one reason the sword was ineffective in this timeline could have been a means to establish that this 17 and 18 were far stronger than the ones from his timeline. But again, it’s possible. I’d need to see something official before I’d commit to that though.
