Hurricane Hilary is about to make landfall and that whole desert area is supposed to get a years worth of rain or more. Death Valley is supposed to get twice the annual rainfall. Severe winds, massive flooding, and landslides are all strong possibilities.
This is gonna get ugly. Please spread the word. This is a majorly anomalous event and people may be unaware of the threat headed their way.

france bans hijabs in sports -> france is outraged there is one, singular woman on the moroccan team in hijab playing in this world cup -> france calls the entire country and team “regressive” and “backwards” -> firestorm of racist, islamophobic takes in french media -> france says they won’t broadcast any moroccan matches where nouhaila benzina is playing in hijab -> moroccan team does great and qualifies -> morocco is then scheduled to play france, who now has eat their own words and broadcast the match
Honestly, I think it's cool to see cis people adopt and use "nonconforming" pronouns. I saw a cis man state their pronouns were they/them, and I think that's awesome that they're forthcoming with that! I think a lot of cis people think pronoun nonconformity excludes them, but they're completely wrong! Pronoun nonconformity is literally for anybody. If you are a they/them cis man, that's fucking awesome! There will be people who will respect you, and it isn't a world-ending request to be addressed correctly

story behind this audio: i was on the tf2 wiki, clicking random page, as one does on a wiki, when i landed on the item called "texas half-pants." this item has a voice line at the top of its wiki page. there is a link that says "click to listen" to this audio clip, which i assumed would bring up an audio player or at least take me to a separate page to listen to the audio in my browser. instead, it automatically downloaded the sound clip to my computer. i was laughing at this, saying, "this is on my computer now, great," and i clicked on the file to open it, thinking it would play it in whatever media player i had set as default. it did play…but apparently my default music player was set to itunes. so it opened itunes, added the clip to my itunes library, played the clip, and THEN started playing the next song in the queue, which was coconut mall from mario kart wii. so this is what i experienced just now.

I hate this headline. And people are just going to read this headline and not the article and get angry, and that makes me even more annoyed.
The sirens in question are tsunami sirens. They’re down by the coast (not near where the fire was) and unsurprisingly direct people to higher ground. If locals heard them, that’s where they would go. Imagine if you were in the Midwest, and a wildfire was approaching so they fired up the tornado sirens. You wouldn’t evacuate. You’d go in the basement or the bathroom, because that’s what those sirens mean. Turning them on would send people into a death trap.
It’s the same problem here. The thing with emergency management is that different emergencies require different solutions. You don’t pull a fire alarm for a tornado, you don’t fire up the tornado sirens for a tsunami, and you don’t set off the tsunami sirens for a goddamn wildfire.
This is the opposite of bad journalism, it's actively hostile to the truth. It is INTENTIONALLY creating an idea contrary to what actually happened and no, revealing the truth in the article doesn't fix the absolutely horrid headline.
The emergency manager quit his job because of the harassment he received over this.
