You know that Ada Limón poem where she’s like “i can’t help it i love the way men love”? my dad recently confessed to me that he became a shoemaker because they buried my grandma shoeless

why is there something so intimate about a character with their shoes off? socked feet on worn carpet. late night turned early morning. soft and sleepy and shy. i always feel like a voyeur. this stolen moment was not mine to see, and yet i cannot avert my gaze from something so simple and pure yet so magnanimous.

Rashida Tlaib speaking in Congress, her last speech yesterday about the crimes against the Palestinian people before the House censured her.

“71% of Michigan Democrats support a ceasefire. So you can try to censure me, but you can’t silence their voices.”

At the end she called for a ceasefire again.

“I can’t believe I have to say this, but Palestinian people are not disposable. We are human beings just like anyone else. My Sity, my grandmother, like all Palestinians, just wants to live her life with freedom and human dignity we all deserve. Speaking up to save lives, Mr. Chair, no matter of faith, no matter ethnicity, should not be controversial in this chamber. The cries of the Palestinian and Israeli children sound no different to me. What I don’t understand is why the cries of Palestinians sound different to you all. We cannot lose our shared humanity, Mr. Chair.
I hear the voices of advocates in Israel, in Palestine, across America, and around the world for peace. I am inspired by the courageous survivors in Israel who have lost loved ones, yet are calling for a ceasefire and the end to violence. I am grateful to the people in the streets, for the peace movement, with countless Jewish Americans across the country, standing up and lovingly saying “Not in Our Name.”

Linked here is a transcript and video of her speech. Please join me in calling your reps tomorrow (11/9/23) to admonish her censure and call for a ceasefire. Here is a list of the Democrat representatives who voted to censure her. Express your disapproval to them if you live in their district.

I swear when I see stuff on ao3 descriptions like "this Peeta will have a spine" and "Peeta isn't going to bend over backwards for Katniss for once" I'm just like...yeah, I'mma skip this one, you clearly don't understand Peeta or Everlark.

Sometimes I think about how some writers try to do what Suzanne Collins did with Peeta but all fail miserably. I mean, they try to write a male love interest that's "not like other boys," but only end up with a generic boy character who doesn't even have a personality?

I think what made Peeta so special might be Suzanne's own adoration for him. She just wrote a character she absolutely adored without thinking about the tropes or stereotypes. That's how she ended up with a uniquely likable character who also can't be put in any existing box. He's not the mysterious hot guy, not the timid boy next door, or the cocky popular boy in school. He's all of those things at once, yet none of them fully.

And I adore her enthusiasm when it comes to Peeta, like defending Josh's casting so passionately and humorously (I'd still cast Josh even if he had 6-feet wings and is bright purple.)

A lot of people bring up the term "male character written by a female writer" when describing Peeta. That's really the charm of his character. He's the ideal type a lot of straight women dream of.

idk what traumatized or mentally ill person needs to hear this but dreams (especially the really disturbing ones you dont want to talk about to anybody) arent some deep peek into your psyche or a sign of your True Desires or whatever theyre quite literally your brain making fruit salad with whatever it can find on the shelf. just putting all that shit in a blender and hitting obliterate. its fine, youre fine, youre not a weirdo for it

Actually forget what I said. This dream is more important than anything
