As a woman, the media bias surrounding this film repulses me.  This is not equality.  This is a clear example of how privileged women are in first-world nations, and it’s a large part of why I abandoned the label of “feminist”.

This isn’t treating or judging women equally to men.  It is instilling into womens’ heads the notion that we’re not “good enough” by default.  It is telling women, “You are weak, and you NEED outside support in order to accomplish anything worthwhile”.  They’ve spent so long simultaneously coddling and praising girls while also convincing them that they’re not already equal to boys that they’ve grown up expecting special treatment, and blaming the rest of the world when they don’t make the effort to DESERVE special treatment. That’s not being “empowered”.  That’s being spoiled and entitled, and expecting the world to change for you, rather than setting out to change the world yourself.

Lastly, I don’t want my media to be determined by perceived social “injustices”.  I want content creators to work towards their personal visions and dreams unhindered.  I want writers and directors to have freedom to make their characters however they want, and to tell whatever story their brains have been blessed to conceive.  Gender should not matter.  EVER.  That’s what “equality” actually means: Seeing people as PEOPLE–not just the negligible aspects of their humanity that have little to do with personality or talent.

Last time I checked women were still, more likely to be payed less (especially women of color), more likely to be sexually harassed at work, less likely to be in a leadership position in a job environment, more likely to be sexually assaulted and/or experience domestic violence. The only sexism I’ve personally experienced from men in the gaming community is some bullshit online. I’ve also witnessed first-hand other women getting harassed on online gaming communities by men, but also other women.

I’ve actually experienced far more misogyny from other women in the gaming community. And witnessed more of it towards other women. There are a lot of girls with a “NOT LIEK OTHER GURLZ” mentality who constantly slut-shame female gamers and accuse them of only playing for male attention.

Now a male may have made that comic, but I have seen so many girls sharing it, and making the false assumption that the girl in the first panel is actually made up by men and their “ideal” gamer girl, which is untrue.
