"I have to respect the ambition," Pete says to Grian, who took a foolish chance and got stuck in the vault. "Unfortunately I'm going to have to appreciate it FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE LEADER BOARD."
Use that bath bomb you've been saving. Write on that stationery that's "too pretty to use". Dress the way you've always dreamed of now. Listen to that new album, watch that new show, read that book you've been putting off. Don't wait to treat yourself or live your life, because you deserve it as you are now.
Watching forever’s pov of festa junina is such an experience after seeing phil’s pov. Forever is having staged romantic moments with his fake boyfriend while phil is up in the sky doing parkour. Forever is getting married to his fake boyfriend and phil is sitting in the church doing his fucking duolingo lessons having no idea what’s going on. Forever and his fake husband are talking about how in love they are right in front of phil while he’s just standing there in silence but in reality he’s muted and laughing his ass off because he just realized forever is trying to make him jealous
Now that Pat Robertson's dead do you think his company will finally accept a buyout of their contractually obligated timeslot on Freeform (née ABC Family) or are they still absolutely committed to it
For anyone who doesn't know the history (or isn't American and doesn't know what this means)
In the 70s Christian Broadcasting Network founded a family TV channel they later sold. When they sold it they included a clause saying the new owners have to give them a timeslot for The 700 Club, and let them take over the network a couple times a year for a full day of fundraising.
During this time their family channel passed through the ownership of Fox and ABC, and during its time as ABC Family it gravitated towards teen dramas. Its brand now is actually not just teen dramas, but often queer, diverse teen dramas. Meanwhile they've been forced to platform a show where the host calls 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina God's punishment for homosexuality (there's also rumors that they forced the network to keep "Family" in the name long after it became a teen network)
By all accounts they've been offered copious amounts of Disney Money and have turned it down every time. The contract is so ironclad Disney lawyers can't find a way to get out of it. Their contract also mandates they can't bury it late at night either, so The 700 Club airs at 10/9 in the morning and 11/10 at night (the latter prevents Freeform from launching any kind of late night block), with disclaimers in front of it. Incredibly snarky disclaimers
Meanwhile their post-700 Club disclaimer looks like this
Pat Robertson's show is holding a network hostage due to a contract from three decades and two owners ago, and the network openly despises them. Literally nothing else like it
Like as an example of the type of Extremely Un-700 Clubian programming Freeform put on around it, at one point Pat Robertson's lead-in was The Fosters, a show about a interracial lesbian couple raising five children, with trans and gay recurring characters, and yes, apparently they did do it deliberately so anyone tuning in early to watch The 700 Club would catch a few minutes of the inclusive lesbian mom show
Etiquette warnings shown before silent films (1910s)
Hats were like the cell-phones of the 1910s.
“Applaud with your hands only” what….what happened to make them put that warning?
Foot stomping.
This is why you vote & vote Blue
They ran on doing this; not on how this was impossible.
This is why we want candidates to campaign on these issues: Because people want these jobs done.
Voting matters. #VoteBlue 💙
I think it's really important to take a good look at who you're voting for in primaries, too. It's not being talked about that a lot of the people who got this done are a) younger and b) marginalized in one or more ways and c) aren't entrenched in establishment politics.
One of the reasons that things got done is because the people pushing those agendas aren't following the old "well we have to appeal to the right to our own detriment" Democrat defeatist stuff, and because they're young and because nobody had yet told them it couldn't be done, they just did it.
If you haven't yet seen the video of the young man responsible for the gig work reform bill being literally carried around on the shoulders of Uber drivers after the bill passed, go look it up. It's good stuff.
Yes, vote blue, because the Republican party is... *waves hands* but pay attention to who you're voting for. Show up at primaries. Don't just vote in the incumbent if they're not getting shit done.
Hell, run for shit, and if you do? Don't let 'em tell you that it can't be done.
Yes, Omar Fateh (the guy behind the gig workers bill) is really respected in his district, and he specifically ran in both the primary and the actual election as a person committed to Getting Shit Done. And then he did!
It is so important to keep an eye out for folks like this in your primaries and give them your vote. Even if they don’t win, many candidates use primary results to help them choose which issues to address during the main campaign and in session.
And if your preferred political party has caucuses, or meetings, or whatever in preparation for the primary, try to go! That’s a great place to share your concerns with potential candidates or get a feel for what plans everyone is likely to focus on.
Thank you so much! I couldn't remember his name.
I like photos like this because a) workers realizing their own power is good, and b) out of context it looks like these two are announcing their ability to attack you, so don’t try anything funny or Garth the flight attendant will maul you with his teeth
all the frothing-at-the-mouth posts about how "don't you dare put a fic writer's work into chatGPT or an artist's work into stable diffusion" are. frustrating
that isn't how big models are made. it takes an absurd amount of compute power and coordination between many GPUs to re-train a model with billions of parameters. they are not dynamically crunching up anything you put into a web interface.
chances are, if you have something published on a fanfic site, or your art is on deviantart or any publicly available repository, it's already in the enormous datasets that they are using to train. and if it isn't in now, it will be in future: the increases in performance from GPT 2 to 3 to 4 were not gained through novel machine-learning architectures or anything but by ramping up the amount of data they used to train by orders of magnitude. if it can be scraped, just assume it will be. you can prevent your stuff from being used with Glaze, if you're an artist, but for the written word there's nothing you can do.
not to be cynical but the genie is already far more out of the bottle than most anti-AI people realize, i think. there is nothing you can do to stop these models from being made and getting more powerful. only the organizing power of labor has a shot at mitigating some of the effects we're all worried about
this post had over 10k notes and lots of people in replies getting very angry and panicky and threatening imaginary bad actors and begging people not to put their fics into chatgpt. the reply is authoritatively saying "anything that is given to AI it can use it later to draw from." no source! like - i don't know if they save your prompts. they probably do for some other nefarious purposes. but:
these are the size of the training sets used to train gpt-3. as a rule of thumb in natural language processing, one word is on average two tokens. the common crawl dataset alone is around 205 billion words; for gpt-3 they don't even manage to use all of it. this is the scale of the data they need. they are not re-training their model with the little prompts you put in, and even if they did, it's like... a drop of water in the ocean. it's not gonna have an effect on how the model behaves. i think people are, on a gut level, still understanding these models as "collage machines." they're not. they are not borg-assimilating all your best ideas from your fics to frankenstein them back together. they are statistical models. they are compressing gargantuan amounts of data down into smaller (still huge, but much smaller) models of that data by looking at trends and likelihoods and repetitions. i'm not saying you're a great person if you use gpt to autocomplete old fics but even if they were for some reason adding your prompts to their datasets, it's not gonna have an effect. the culture on here about anti-ai stuff has approached, like, mythology - making up shit about what they can do, talking about how scary they are, ghost stories, moral panic. this wild overstatement about what they can do only benefits the companies selling them, and those trying to use them as pretense to undermine labor.
this is stupid but I genuinely worry that kids ARE being priced out of video games like. totk is heavily sanitized to maintain a particular rating that often works against itself but like, I struggle to imagine the kid who's approaching their parents like "one hundred dollars for a video game please" my biggest gaming triumph was in high school when my parents bought us an xbox 360 and one game. we got the wii as it was going out of style and played primarily gamecube games on it, and even back then to buy a new gamecube game or a DS game was a twenty dollar endeavour. what kind of slideshow does a ten year old have to present in order to convince their parents to drop a hundie on legend of zelda.
Like listen 1) do you think game devs are being paid proportionally to video game price hikes. Looking around at the state of games in the past couple years and all the unionization efforts, do you think that's accurate? Do you think game devs are getting residuals for video games they worked on while nintendo continues to collect 101 CAD for every copy of breath of the wild? and 2) whether or not I was spot on correct about every quoted price and can produce receipts from 2006 isn't the point. The point is that if I waited a year after a release I could buy a secondhand copy of most games but all switch physical copies are brand new and far lower in circulation than games that ONLY came in physical copy. Nintendo games don't go on sale. Kids generally aren't as adept at emulation if they understand how to do it at all, and teaching the parents to do so is not a valid strategy because there's a million reasons why a parent couldn't do so and even more situations where they just wouldn't even if they knew how.
Where's walmart's huge bin of old switch games? Where's the huge wealth of physical copies for indie games for countries where they can't rely on a digital download (and that's you too America!)? What WAGE is a child getting to save up money for a single hundred dollar video game on their own, because my point is that a lot of parents are going to outright reject a hundred dollar purchase in MAY and kids have no means to compensate for that themselves, even the ones who can expect decent Christmas and birthday dollars? Kids play shit like Fortnite and Genshin not because they have worse taste than us, but because those are the games they can afford to play! And it's death by a thousand cuts because 100 1$ purchases are easier to ask for than a hundred dollars outright for a brand new video game when most parents who aren't deep in the paint on gaming still assume that they can wait for a price drop.
Also the dlcs.
Sure, you can ask for like totk for your birthday (hi my cousin is doing this) but it’s a bit weirder to ask for money to get a dlc so you can truly finish a game (POKÉMON IM LOOKING AT YOU)
sobbing. i love u my jewish learning ♡
[ID: Screenshot of an instagram post. The photo shows a young man dressed in traditional Orthodox Jewish clothing- a black hat, black suit and pants, and white shirt- wraps tefillin around the arms of a person draped in the rainbow pride flag. The person in the pride flag has shoulder length hair and is wearing a large white kipah, a t shirt, and shorts. They are standing outside on pavement. It's captioned "Do a mitzvah." End ID.]
EDIT: Photo is by uri cohn
This is the world I want to live in.
(Context for gentiles: the man on the left is probably a member of Chabad. Chabad is a sort-of-Orthodox-it’s-really-complicated-please-don’t-ask-me-to-elaborate Jewish organization that does outreach involving asking Jews in the wider community if they’d like the chance to complete a mitzvah; for example, at Sukkot they’ll ask if Jews walking by would like to shake the bundle of Four Species, which they might not have the chance to do at home. This probably-a-Chabad-member has identified the queer person in the photo as a Jew and offered them the chance to wrap tefillin, which is a central part of certain Jewish blessings. Basically this very traditional man has walked up to this very untraditional man and said “hey! Have you had the chance to pray today? Would you like to?” Jewish prayer mostly revolves around the saying of blessings, not around requests, so the prayers said with tefillin are basically “it’s an awesome day and I’m glad I’m living it.” There is no “this person is wrong for their flag or orientation or gender”—it’s just “this person is a fellow Jew, I will ask if they want to perform a mitzvah.”)
I was already here, but I’m taking a closer look at this image and I think there’s another important thing to add:
Especially because this is a Pride event, there is a much higher than usual greater-than-zero chance this person is either nonbinary or a trans man.
Wrapping tefillin is a male mitzvah. That’s to say, women aren’t obligated to do it, and many traditionalists say women shouldn’t do it. And it’s also considered an act of modesty for men not to touch women outside of their own family.
The probably-a-Chabad-member is wrapping tefillin (a male mitzvah), which involves touching someone he’s not related to (forbidden between sexes), on someone who may not be a cisgender man and, if he is, presents as GNC.
So in addition to everything I said above: this is a very traditional man looking at a very untraditional person-who-may-not-meet-his-own-definition-of-“man” and saying “you are a man to yourself in the eyes of G-d, therefore you’re a man to me. Have you had the chance to pray today? Would you like to?”
about adhd
it concerns me that people really don’t know that adhd isn’t a personality type or behavioral problem.
adhd isn’t someone who’s personality is driven by fun and disorder.
adhd is someone who’s brain goes all over the place looking for dopamine, because it doesn’t make or register enough of it, and when it finds a source of dopamine, it hyperfixates on it. it’s about deregulation of attention as well as emotions.
it’s not a person who can’t behave. a person with adhd can look like a lot of things. misconceptions about what adhd looks like kept me from even looking for a diagnosis, and it also kept myself and others (professionals, even) from taking my suspicions seriously.
everyone’s encouraged to reblog, but if you don’t have adhd, keep your additions to the tags.
Smart people can have ADHD. And a lot of the time, they compensate for the ADHD with intelligence- until they reach the point where they just can’t overcome it anymore, which is why a lot of gifted + ADHD people have good grades their whole lives and then “suddenly” crash and burn. For some it’s college, for some it’s grad school, for some it’s postgrad or professional exams like the bar. Whenever the things they have to do can no longer be brute-forced at the last minute.
ADHD is often lumped in with learning disabilities but it’s really a DOING disability. We know what we should do. Probably we know six ways to do it. The trouble is actually getting our brains to activate so we CAN do it. Sometimes it’s like you’re being controlled by aliens or something because you say “I need to do X” and you’re going to do it and you just. Don’t.
cracker barrel.... has fallen
CRACKER BARREL HAS. FALLEN!!!!!!!!!!
A second queer has hit the Cracker Barrel
the tags on this post are so jaded and cynical. it's funny that the republicans have lost another pilar of their culture war. it's funny that they're losing this battle they created after mocking leftists for boycotting/not doing business with corporations that uphold structures of oppression. it's FUNNY that cracker barrel did this even if it is rainbow washing and virtue signaling. it's ABSOLUTELY hilarious that the right wingers are having a MELTDOWN about this. enjoy watching them be upset!!!!
My friend posted this the other day and I had to share it. Her cat looks so damn pleased with himself, it’s great.
The question is: why this person has gay pride flag in her window
well man i’ll give you 4 fucking guesses
the problem is that pretty much all pride flags are horizontal, theres no vertical tricolours or anything
