The One Who Is Lazy

@theriverpersonshadow

I had a theme for like 3 posts. Oops XD But what can I say, I'm a nerd who likes DnD, Undertale, and some good Omori. Working on a novel that is actualy finally fucking getting somewhere. Check out Voidskyseries for me going on about all that. >:3 I hope you guys have a good time! Link to my Kofi:  Ko-fi.com/maddiemuse

okay. listen. I try not to be pedantic about this sort of thing but it’s starting to get on my nerves. the wire mother offers milk but not comfort. the cloth mother offers comfort but not milk. if something is comforting, fun, or otherwise compelling, but lacks substance, that is the cloth mother. if something is boring or unpleasant but has substance, that is the wire mother.

wire mother: your thoroughly researched effortpost that gets three notes

cloth mother: your post that just says “it’s penis o’clock babey!” and has a hundred billion notes

are. are we really getting mad on tumblr now about people incorrectly memeing an unethical study on baby monkeys

Personally I believe this represents a new high standard for our community.

Trigun fucking destroys me, okay.

It's about persisting through the most horrific obstacles imaginable, and never losing hope for yourself and others. It's about the fruit your efforts bear, but it doesn't ignore the ugliness of the suffering you endure. It doesn't sweep it under the rug to give you a happy ending.

As a jaded millennial, I get a bit tired of stories where everything turns out fine because the heroes tried hard. Most stories gloss over the repercussions of failure. They tell us it's all simply a means to an end, and that end is what matters. Overcoming your obstacle matters. Winning matters.

Trigun doesn't do this.

Vash gets hurt (gross understatement). He's ostracized, bullied, threatened, haunted, forced to see the darkest underbelly of humanity. He's subjected to the worst parts of life that are grotesquely ruthless, unforgiving, hopeless. He's forced to reconcile a lot of his goals (like never killing anyone), but not the core of his beliefs.

Not once does he falter in his trust that people are capable of good, that we all deserve that chance to be. He never has a revelation that shakes his faith in humanity, despite constantly being given every reason to. He's the irritatingly optimistic anime protagonist who looks at impossible odds and says "everything will be alright", the way no one can in real life because it never works out that way for us.

And it doesn't for him, either.

Vash does his best, believes in himself, and fails. over and over and over again. He loses everything--loved ones, memories, autonomy. He loses constantly. He's your unrealistically positive hero, being dealt realistically unfavorable hands.

And still, he persists. He never truly wins. Because we never truly win. Life has no happy ending like a story does.

He never truly wins, and yet, he can still find happiness. He meets friends, enjoys good food, watches people love fiercely in both blessing and hardship. He hits unbelievable lows that don't keep him from finding highs. Because he never stops trying to be the best of what he sees in humanity. Because every little bit counts. He never stops believing in humans--believing in you.

Trigun grabs you by the face and stares directly at you. It says "I see you, I see your pain, how much you struggle. I see how sometimes no matter how hard you try, things don't work out. Life isn't a fairy tale. I see how your kindness can come back to hurt you, hurt others. I see you, and I'm proud of you. Life is worth living with love in your heart not because we win, but because we try. We all try. Never stop trying to be kind."

Trigun shows you the cruel reality of life, and leaves you feeling good about it.

I don't know a single piece of media that's able to do that.

Given this description, well…

I might need to watch this

Because shockingly when people enjoy what they do (you make it enjoyable instead of just hammering on them) people WANT to do things!

I’ve decided that all bats fall somewhere on this horrid little graph I’ve devised. Here are some prime examples of the various Creature Varieties found in nature.

Hi OP no notes I just wanted to add some more guys because I have disorders

Avatar

You’re so correct about all of these and it is our human right to be incredibly disordered about bats online. Thank you. Let’s go take ibuprofen together.

reminder that digital piracy is completely and utterly morally correct. "you wouldn't download a car" yes i fucking would. goodnight.

ONLY WAY I’LL EVER AFFORD ONE SO-

And if you don’t have a car, you can’t get a job, so you can’t get money. So yes let me 3D print a car grrrr gimme gimme

I don’t even care anymore at least in jail I don’t pay fucking rent and the people yelling at me aren’t family and don’t have that emotional connection to hurt

Bounty on the phantom thieves is the highest ever offered by the Japanese police? Perfect time to make some grenades in class. But seriously at least half the school including your entire homeroom definitely knows who you are on account of none of you are subtle and Ryuji keeps shouting “we’re the phantom thieves” in public.

Whole class was ride or die after they took down Kamoshida

What's a squick?

Avatar

First, thank you for asking. This is something I feel is important!

Second, to those who wonder where this question came from, a while back, I reblogged this, and added the comment about squicks not being the same as triggers.

So what, you ask, is a squick?

A squick is an old fandom term for something that makes you supremely uncomfortable and you absolutely do not want to read it. It can be a trope, a ship, a concept, or just an event that happens within a fic or in canon. For me, abused animals are a definite squick. I don’t like it, and will generally avoid reading any graphic descriptions of such. (That includes tumblr gif sets and such too, people! Tag that shit, will you? Even if it has a happy ending.) Another deep, deep squick of mine is infant age play. Don’t like it, don’t get it, don’t want to think about it.

Now, neither of these things are dangerous to my mental or emotional state. I have never experienced either in my life, and they do not bring about any sort of PTSD, dissociation, or spiral of depression, anxiety, etc. They are simply things I prefer not to think about in my daily life, or read about in my escapist hobbies. Therefore, they are not triggers. Triggers are very real, very bad things for some people, and to label things we choose not to read because we find it disturbing or gross or weird is to diminish the very real danger of actual triggers.

I love the term squick. It perfectly describes the concept without assigning any negativity to the thing you dislike, or to people who do like the thing you dislike. It is something you personally do not care for and wish to avoid, simple as that.

Bring back “squick” 2k16

Avatar

Squick is wonderful for many reasons, especially because it is value neutral. Being squicked by something doesn’t mean it’s gross or wrong or ~problematic~, just that you, specifically do not enjoy it and that it makes you, specifically uncomfortable to read and/or write about it.

reblog to make it die faster

We need to go back a few years to whatever era of depressing off-the-shits indie horror this was and I am not even remotely joking

HOW COULD I FORGET ABOUT “DISCOVER MY BODY”

Tbf it’s relatively more recent than the other 3 games so hopefully there will be more games like this soon

I’m sorry that I turned this post into a thread of weird horror that I actually like but if you’re a fan of sci-fi short stories please I beg of you read Computer Friendly by Eileen Gunn (there’s a link to the story somewhere on this page) and Patient Zero by Tananarive Due they both live in my head rent free

my favs have to be Rediger, a sound novel (similar to a visual novel without the visuals) which is about a 10 minute play

And of course, obligatory Kitty Horrorshow!! Overall interesting experiences with good good writing

Also if you want Playstation styled bloody horror check out @puppetcombo and the work they create/produce. :3

If I could swoop in with some visual novels? Scarlet Hollow (steam link) is amazing. Rich, layered characters, creepy Appalachian folklore, some very dark themes and stunning art.

There’s an upcoming game by the same artist called Slay the Princess that looks great too. I also really enjoyed Grotesque Beauty (steam link) and Cooking Companions (steam link).

And I also recommend Meeting In The Flesh and Parasite In Love for some really unique horror takes on a dating sim. (I mean REALLY, genuinely unique, I promise they aren’t a couple of Doki Doki Literature Club knockoffs.)

Reblog game! What are 3 of your favorite tropes? Or even just ones you like if you’re like me and find it hard to choose lol

  • 1. Bunny Ears Lawyer: Basically, someone with a weird quirk or possibly multiple quirks who nonetheless gets hired/gets the job done because they’re competent anyways. May or may not be the autism in me, hahaha
  • 2. Found family: A bunch of people coming together and finding people they care about like family even without blood bonds. What can I say, I’m a sap
  • 3. Eldritch Location: Bonus if it’s sentient (referred to as “Genius Loci” on TvTropes)! What can I say, I love me some worldbuilding and GIVE ME COOL SETTINGS! LET THE WORLD ITSELF BE AN OBSTACLE OR CONFUSING IT IS FUN! I mean, I love both worldbuilding and mind-bending stuff, so this one’s a given

Y’all’s turn now!

This is my writing account, so not gonna add three, buuuuut…

  • Dark is not Evil: Kinda in the name there. What can I say, I just think that you can have legit reasons to want to hide, and nothing everything Other and Mysterious is something to be scared of. The fact that fluorescent lights are mildly overstimulating to me miiiight also explain why I prefer darker/dimmer rooms.
