Y’all in the American SW and west Mexico better check the national hurricane center and your weather for this weekend and next week.

Hurricane Hilary is about to make landfall and that whole desert area is supposed to get a years worth of rain or more. Death Valley is supposed to get twice the annual rainfall. Severe winds, massive flooding, and landslides are all strong possibilities.

This is gonna get ugly. Please spread the word. This is a majorly anomalous event and people may be unaware of the threat headed their way.

Flash floods are definitely gonna kill people, so here’s your regularly scheduled PSA:

Desert soil does not absorb a significant amount of water. It reaches maximum saturation very very quickly, and all the rest of the water rushes downhill. Even if you can’t tell that the ground is not perfectly flat, the water can. And it will move. Quickly. No, faster than that. Nope, still faster. If you try to cross moving floodwater, you will get swept downstream and probably die.

Do not try to wade in/cross flood water that is any deeper than the thickness of the sole of an average athletic shoe, no I am not kidding, the water will get deeper literally while you’re standing in it.

This goes for cars, too. I’ve seen entire vehicles getting swept downstream in flash floods because the driver thought they could cross the “puddle” and Found Out.

I’m so happy to see Black people parenting differently from their own upbringing. Why subject your child(ren) to the trauma you endured and hated from your parents? I’m especially happy where little Black girls are concerned. When young, we were labeled “sassy”, we needed an “attitude” adjustment, ‘we thought we were grown’ and blah blah all because no one told us how to express ourselves. And even if we did know how, we were told to hold our tongues out of respect. And if we were allowed to speak, our feelings were immediately invalidated because the adults taking care of us had problems worse than ours and we didn’t pay bills.

Some of the kids are alright.

My little cousin was just diagnosed with ADHD and the doctor said in girls, anger is a symptom. Made me wonder how many Black girls were labeled with “bad attitude” when in reality they couldn’t focus on the task and just pissed at the adult in their face demanding and threatening them over something outside of their control

Fun fact: Victor Gruen, the “inventor” of the modern shopping mall, wanted his malls to be full of apartments, schools, medical facilities, and indoor parks in addition to the stores, so people could live, work, and shop under one roof. This never happened and instead all the space was used for stores, something that he hated. 

It’s not just a case of ‘hey it would be easy to repurpose all this space’, malls were originally designed to be living centers and it wouldn’t take that much tweaking to bring them back to it.

so um….looks like Bradley Cooper (goy) has been cast to play Leonard Bernstein, a Jewish man, in his upcoming film Maestro (a biopic about a real Jewish composer). rather than hiring a Jewish actor to tell a story about a Jewish man, they cast a goy…who will be wearing a prosthetic nose.

and if that weren’t enough - they cast Carrie Mulligan, an Irish woman, to play Leonard’s wife…who was a Latina. and Maya Hawke, a white woman who is neither Latina nor Jewish, has been cast to play their daughter.

AND don’t forget that Bradley Cooper grabbed the rights to Bernstein’s music before Jake Gyllenhaal, A JEWISH MAN WHO WAS GOING TO MAKE A BIOPIC ABOUT BERNSTEIN, was able to. we could have had a respectful biopic about a Jewish man, told by Jews. instead we get this.

i…don’t have words to explain how insidious this is. the absolute goydacity to keep a Jewish man from telling this story, whitewash the other people in a true story, and to cast a goy instead of a Jewish person to tell a true story about a Jewish man, and have that goy wear a prosthetic nose. they would rather Jew-ify a goy than cast an actual Jew. i’m disgusted.
