Hi, my name is Artemis, and I’m a 19 year old Male-to-Female transgender individual who has suffered from things like depression in the past. I need help with being able to properly transition, however, as the cost of not just my estrogen (more than $100 a vial) but with doctor’s costs as well (currently, my labwork is costing $600 a visit and I know that I’ve had at least four visits that aren’t being covered by insurance).
My immediate family is just barely making ends meet, and the insurance that they have that I am still covered under isn’t covering my transition what so ever. If possible, I’d like to be able to transition as properly as possible to ensure my ability to live a full and proper life by minimizing the sources of worry and dysphoria related to my transition. The suicide rate for transgender individuals is astronomically high, and I’d like to not be part of that statistic if I can so help it.
I’ll be honest and say that right now, the situation isn’t truly urgent– they’re just medical bills, and I can always try to ignore them and only pay the minimum. But as time goes on, these costs will only pile on top of my already great debt as a college student. As it piles on, so will the worry and stress, and so will my mental status decline. As such, I want to try and stay on top of this before anything starts to go wrong. I’m already trying to work as much as I can while still passing my classes, but with the amount of bills I have to pay it is truly difficult.
