I hardley even know 'er!

‪GOD I found another article about why ADHD kids say “I don’t know” so much. my entire childhood was getting yelled at for doing some ADHD shit and me not being able to offer an explanation when asked why I did something. ‬

Adding to this, its cause of our executive dysfunction and emotional dysregulation (naturally there’s more things at play than just these two but I’m naming main aspects).

We tend to have alexithymia, meaning we have difficulty identifying and describing own feelings.

You can’t say how you feel if you legit don’t know.

Self monitoring is an executive function; our self awareness about how we are doing presently .. which is hampered in ADHDers

You can’t say what you think if you legit don’t know.

oh my god

Of fucking course there’s a word for it.

Also,

Of fucking course it’s because of ADHD.

That text is from the book “Driven to Distraction” by Edward M Hallowell M.D. and John J. Ratey M.D.

Has some amazing case studies on ADHD, and is a very cathartic read for someone diagnosed as an adult.

Thank you so much for adding a source to this! In general any book by M.D. Hallowell or by Dr. Russell Barkley is a sound bet for a good book on adhd that’s incredibly validating!

Can't let British people have air conditioning because first they'd call it something twee like "the climate fixer" and then in 20 years they'll call it "the climb" or "the climmy"

French kids would call it "le climot", frustrating language officials who would prefer they call it "machine pour le contrôle du climat froide à l'interieure de l'édifice"

Though it can seem daunting, a range of noted thinkers from Karl Marx to Ice T agree that in such scenarios it is necessary to hold your friend to account for their misdeeds. Both for their own sake and for society writ large.

Solid medications (pills) really do be coming in two varieties - edible plastic, and smarties (derogatory)

Spoken like a person who truly knows what it is to have Ailments

i went to a tiny counterserve diner once and accidentally poured sugar instead of salt all over my hashbrowns and was eating them sadly anyways. the waitress took them away and started making me another one and I tried to protest, but she just snorted and said "we're not catholic here". now every time i'm doing something painful out of obligation i think about how that is not repenting, this body is not a catholic establishment, there is no nobility in suffering.

Short-staffing has become a major problem in all sectors. Retail, food service, health care, education, factory production lines, call centers, child care, IT, office support staff, etc. Every corner of our society and economy.

Now we know that even in creative spaces employers are not willing to hire sufficient staff to accomplish necessary tasks, demand workers do more than their fair share of work, for longer hours, without fair compensation or reasonable breaks/time off.

This needs to stop.

How do I explain to you people that interracial relationships are okay

Not every white person dating a POC is fetishizing. White people can be respectful and responsible when it comes to culture and relationships and not everyone has bad intentions.

Asian people can date Black people without you saying shit like “your kids will be so pretty” they’re not dating for pretty kids. They’re dating bc they like each other.

Someone can dress their partner in clothing from their culture if they want. Someone can take their partner to cultural events if they want.

People in relationships can share cultures, experiences and love without it being toxic or skin deep.

Their partner isn’t culturally appropriating. Their partner is being shown the ultimate form of love, bc their partner trusts them and loves them enough to share their history and heritage.

Yeah, dating someone from your culture is nice bc you automatically have similar experiences. But you’re not limited to dating people with the same experiences. Loving someone is sharing and growing and being together.

Interracial relationships aren’t always toxic, and some of y’all need to stop projecting onto other people.

👆 THIS 👆 👏👏👏

Calling ineterracial relationships toxic or fetishizing just seem like anti race mixing or racism with extra steps

i swear to god. every time he sends me a text about this fucking cat, i feel like i’m gonna die

One of the most telling things about 1984 is that the events of the book are set in motion by George Orwell's self insert main character wanting to sexually assault a random woman, who then reveals herself to actually be in love with him for Reasons, and then they have lots of sex. No wonder gross libertarian men love this book so much

Also, you can have books where the main character is truly disgusting and thinks and does horrible things. Lolita is well known for that premise, but in Lolita, Humbert Humbert is explicitly a terrible person. You're supposed to dislike him. It's like American Psycho, where the focus of the book is the villain of the story. In 1984, Winston is framed as a heroic character struggling against an oppressive government. The sexual relationship between Winston and Julia is treated as a subversive act, and his wishes to actually rape her (Winston himself says this) are treated as something silly or as a fully justified response because he assumes she's probably working for the government, at least in Winston's mind. Rape is framed as a justified way to treat a woman who might possibly, maybe be an enemy. Of course, the men in the story who actually are government agents are never treated in such a way, not that it would be good if the men were also treated as justified targets of rape. It just reveals a lot about George Orwell and his views on women and "authoritarianism"

Orwell himself assaulted a woman in essentially the same manner as he later described in his book - ambushing her off the side of a country path.

In his fantasy version, the woman secretly loves him and, despite being too simple to understand his political ideology, quietly rests on his lap while he reads out some idiotic 'anti-authoritarian' literature to her. In reality, she fought him off and told all her friends not to associate with him, and he later became known among even his contemporary chauvinistic peers as an exceptionally misogynistic writer. His fame and the inclusion of his writing in mandatory school reading is due solely to its propaganda value - he was a snivelling boot-licker, who handed in lists of suspected 'anti-white' communists to the British government's secret propaganda department, which in turn promoted his works, in collaboration with their US colleagues, as the CIA would later fund film adaptation of his work.

Funnily enough, his real wife held the same job as his self-insert - a censor in the British government. He certainly felt no qualms about *their* so-called 'totalitarianism', as long as it was crushing communists.

The woman he tried to rape was his childhood friend, Jacintha, when she was 15 and he was 17. She believes that the character Julia is based on her.

She wrote, "be glad you have not been torn limb from limb in public."

Man I hope they cancel standardized testing, any education professional can tell you it’s a bunch of useless horseshit that does nothing except make students and teachers miserable while utterly failing to accurately gauge understanding.
