not to be a person of unnameable gender with an indefinable sexual orientation, but I would be thrilled to date someone who can be at least two of the aesthetic types I’m attracted to, with a change of clothing and some amount of effort with hair and make up

Slightly different take but it is my goal to be able to switch that effectively between presentations holy shit I’m so jealous

Spoke to a gen z person the other night and apparently the young folks don't know about the very legal sites from which you can access public domain media (including Dracula, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and other Victorian gothic horror stories)?

Like this young person didn't even know about goddamn Gutenberg which is a SHAME. I linked to it and they went "aw yiss time to do a theft" and I was like "I mean yo ho ho and all that, sure, but. you know gutenberg is entirely legal, right?"

Anyway I'm gonna put this in a few Choice Tags (sorry dracula fans I DID mention it though so it's fair game) and then put some Cool Links in a reblog so this post will still show UP in said tags lmao.

Spreading the news to my followers - if you weren’t aware of this before, here’s the link to Project Gutenberg - https://www.gutenberg.org/

Project Gutenberg is a gigantic collection of books that are in the public domain.  You can read the books through the site or you can download them in various formats so you can get the format you prefer for your eReader of choice.

It is free.

It is legal.

I was reviewing the list of the top 100 books downloaded yesterday and I saw a fair few that I had to read for college classes - so if you’re a college student and your professor assigns you to read Plato or any number of older works, check here before you buy a copy.

I reread the Anne series several years back - they were free through this.  I need to reread Pride and Prejudice at least once a year, and my e-book version is from this.  Someone recommended Jekyll and Hyde to me a few weeks back and I got a free copy from this.  When I went to Haworth on my last holiday before the plague times, I brought books by the Bronte sisters with me to read or reread that I downloaded from here.  It’s a great resource.

Yes yes yes! I was honestly so flabbergasted that this young person hadn't heard of the gutenberg project! It's been around for AGES, maybe longer than the kindle has? And it's such a huge project and wonderful resource! It used to be a household name (or maybe that's just my family, thanks to my dad being a cheapskate nerd [affectionate]). I was so glad to be able to share this resource and others with them though, and I wanted to make sure no one else was missing out!

If you look at the first reblog from me I also recommended a few other resources, most of which were from www.archive.org, home of the Wayback Machine! They run openlibrary.org, where you can check out ebooks of some public domain titles! They even have the Bone series by Jeff Smith!

And archive.org itself has all kinds of public domain media including music and movies! For Dracula fans, here's a radio show adaptation of the book, starring Orson Welles! And here's a 1920 movie adaptation of "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," starring John Barrymore, the grandfather of Drew Barrymore!

I'm so excited to see people falling in love with classic media through Dracula Daily! Let's keep that fire blazing!

Also, if you can't handle reading things, check out libirvox.org! it's a free audio book project taking public domain works and people doing free audiobooks! there's a lot of great stuff on there, but it takes things in the public domain and makes audio books out of them!

it's a super nice project, and you can find some really nice readers there!

don't panic buy games because of the eshop shutdown!!!! the memes are not lying It is genuinely very easy to hack your 3ds!!! please do it!!!!

(don't follow video guides they are very often outdated and it's easier to make mistakes that way. this guide is very detailed with step by step instructions and they even have a support server in the event you have any trouble! i understand it might seem intimidating but risks of bricking or banning are very minimal at this point you will be glad you did it)

also you might have heard around you need a certain eshop app to homebrew, this was Once true but is now FALSE as the current method does NOT require any existing app.

so if you don't have time right now, don't worry! you will still be able to after the eshop shutdown. there is not a time limit for being able to hack your 3ds.

HEY!!!!! NEWS!!!!! (as of may 22 2023)

nintendo just released version 11.17.0 for the 3DS, and it breaks pretty much every known hacking method from my understanding, but doesn't seem to break any existing CFW.

if you HAVE NOT yet hacked your system, don't update until you have.

if you HAVE hacked your system, double check your current version of Luma3DS by holding start or select on startup. if you have v11.0 or later, it is safe to update! (if you have v10.0 or earlier, update Luma before updating your system!)

so sad to me that people will not make fursonas or furry characters in general bc they think being a furry is weird, or requires the money and desire to get a fursuit or something. it's just a genuinely fun character design and art exercise. There's so much opportunity for unique creative expression.....you can just make an anthro character pls its fun.

It's been a very long time since I've posted any of my stuff. I just finished my red panda fursuit, but ho I've dubbed Apple! I do need to adjust how high the tail sits but otherwise I'm pretty proud of it!

These objections are based on an imagined state of childhood in which all children live in a safe little bubble which does not burst until some sort of maturity threshold has been reached. One child’s distress may come from learning about the world, but another may experience instead a sudden glimmer of self-recognition. Not everyone gets to dodge life’s ugliness until they are old enough to vote. The fact that a child may not fully understand a narrative doesn’t mean that they are unable to derive any benefit from it, and frankly if your image of children is still so flat and unnuanced, you have not matured nearly as much as you think you have.

“giving a coming of age story to a child who isn’t coming of age yet will just distress and confuse them” girl . help girl children should not be exposed to anything they haven’t already experienced in life lest it give them something to think about or perhaps even feel about

“children who haven’t come of age shouldn’t read coming of age stories” bestie the runaway bunny is a coming of age story. Where the wild things are is a coming of age story. Bread and jam for frances is a coming of age story. A coming of age story is any story in which a child/adolescent/young adult changes in some way and learns a lesson about life, like????? What in the everloving fuck do you think a coming of age story IS???????

okay also like. The idea that something has to directly relate to your lived experience to have any value is so GROSS to me, it’s AWFUL, it is so completely fucking antithetical to what literature is supposed to BE!!!!!!!! I am the person i am because I read things that confused me and challenged me and scared me and unsettled me and made me stop and try to think about how the world feels to someone from a totally different time and place!!!!! What the FUCK!!!!!! I hate it here!!!!!!!

Probably one of my favorite posters I’ve designed

Made this for a college class and it’s still one of my favorites; I even got it printed and framed it in my room lol

i'm sure a lot of you in the states are aware of what's been happening down in florida with Ron DeSantis and his wave of anti-trans bills he's trying to push through. there have been over 400 anti-trans/lgbt bills advanced in the united states in 2023 alone, but the good news is that not all of them are making it through into law.

if you're a florida resident, i implore you to contact your representatives (find them here) and there are various scripts available online if you need help figuring out what to say. if you click through to TransEquality you can submit your information and it will send a message through for you.

Transformations Project is also tracking legislation across the country, at the state & national level, and can help you contact your representatives as well. (they are also on tumblr @transformationsproject)

and if you're able, here are some organizations helping trans people and lgbt youth in florida that you can donate to:
