Hey y'all why are writers always cold?

...why?

They're always surrounded by drafts!

How many mystery writers does it take to change a lightbulb?

Oh god.

How many?

Two! One to change the bulb, and the other to give it an unexpected twist at the end!

What do writers have for breakfast?

Coffee?

Synonym buns!

Where do all the struggling writers live?

How are you coming up with all these?

Where?

Writer's Block!

What do writers suffer from each spring?

(I've heard a lot of them over the years.)

Allergies. Next question.

you were close; A case of allegories

Why are writers always in great shape?

Circular prose

Nope! It's because we're always running out of ideas!

Did you hear about the famous writer who turned out to be a fraud?

I did not

His life had it's prose and cons...

Why is editing a better job than writing?

It's more rewording?

Correct! I am out of jokes. :(

I think something that is so intrinsic to the queer experience is staying up all night, reading or watching a gay love story on your phone, holding back sobs. Knowing that you could have this one day, that you could be this happy one day. But for now, you have the same four scraps of hope. And while they can be badly written, or unrealistic, and sometimes not even meant for queer eyes; they are yours. And for the night you can hold this hope in your hands and pretend that you are entitled to your own love story, outside of the screen. And you don’t have to be so afraid until the morning comes.

Small reminder for my Texas/southwest peope. Going to be expecially nasty next week. Stay hydrated, stay cool, keep an eye on your neighbors.

Popping this back up, since it’s getting hot here, and won’t get any cooler ‘til October.  Stay hydrated, friends!

here are some tips for surviving very hot weather from a person who is from a place that gets very hot and also doesn’t react to heat well:

  • don’t move
  • if you don’t have to, don’t go anywhere. don’t do anything.
  • just find a relatively cool place and lay there. drink a tasty bev too.
  • the pool/beach might seem tempting but it’s actually miserable in the searing heat
  • laying on the floor helps if it’s really hot and you’ve got no AC
  • be lazy I’m serious
  • only go out to exercise/enjoy the weather after the sun has started to set or early in the morning before it heats up

you’d think all of this is very rational but then my neighbor decides to mow his lawn AT 2 PM. DURING SIESTA TIME. GO TO SLEEP ON THE COUCH. HAVE A GLASS OF TEA.

A few additions from someone who has experienced both Texas and California summers

  • Put clothing in the freezer before you wear it, trust me
  • Take cool showers, not cold- when you take a freezing shower, your body tries to warm up after you get out, so you feel even hotter later
  • It seems obvious, but frozen foods are your best friend
  • Even if you're inside all day doing nothing, KNOW THE SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION.

if you don't do anything else today,

Please have a moment of silence for the people who were killed instead of freed when news of emancipation finally reached the furthest corners of the american south.

have another moment for the ledgers, catalogs, and records that were burned and the homes that were destroyed to hide the presence of very much alive and still enslaved people on dozens of plantations and homesteads across the south for decades after emancipation.

and have a third moment for those who were hunted and killed while fleeing the south to find safety across the border, overseas, in the north and to the west.

black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.

if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.

This is Juneteenth.

white people CAN interact with this post. share it, spread it.

I love how in the 21st century college grads don’t dream of getting the corner office, they just want a job where they don’t have to ask anybody’s permission before they take a bathroom break.

When someone looks at abstract art and is like “ugh, I could’ve made that” it’s like…yeah? You think you could’ve? I like how those squiggles and splatters look, and how the colors play against each other, and I bet you could make something like that too. Wanna give it a try? I’ve got acrylics and tape and cardboard we could experiment on. It’s fun to break art and composition down to its bare essentials without worrying about things like representation or naturalism. Come on, let’s paint some lines.
