The TARDIS Matrix

@theotherjojo / theotherjojo.tumblr.com

Just another tosser obsessed with Doctor Who. I also like voice-acting, writing, making music and a ton of other stuff. Rubbish at all of 'em but they're fun nonetheless. (ΘΣ δ³Σx²) he/they.

Hello! This is just my pinned welcome post.

Welcome to my page, I sometimes post stuff on here. Usually just memes or stuff I've worked on like art, music or writing. The matrix holds a lot of random stuff you know, really big database after all.

Reverse the polarity of the neutron flow, run and most of all be fantastic! Allons-y!

I hope you enjoy your stay in The TARDIS Matrix.

Found a pretty cool cover of 9 imitating Spider-Man. Y'know, I wonder what The Doctor thinks of Spider-Man, time to check the TARDIS wiki!

So just reading here, it seems that both The Doctor and Spider-Man have encountered one another before, maybe not literally but enough for the purposes of this post.

Some lines from the wiki:

"The Seventh Doctor once stated "With great power comes great responsibility", a quote he thought came from Marvel Comics."

"A glimpse of Spider-Man fighting Doctor Octopus was visible when Esterath explained to the Eighth Doctor about the Omniversal Spectrum."

"The Tenth Doctor noted that the uncle of a "friend" of his once claimed that "with great power comes great responsibility.""

"During an attack on the Fifth Doctor's TARDIS, a Spider-Man cartoon show was playing on the scanner screen, shortly before the screen's destruction."

"Grant told the Twelfth Doctor the origin story of Spider-Man, however, the Doctor believed that getting bitten by a radioactive spider would result in radiation poisoning."

"Dan Slott once proposed a five issue limited series where Peter Parker would become The Doctor's travelling companion. While the BBC were enthusiastic about the idea, Slott's bosses at Marvel ultimately rejected the pitch."

So after all that I can conclude that Marvel are a bunch of pillocks and we missed out on possibly the coolest thing ever, The Doctor running about space and time with Spider-Man!

I hate that Marvel is so adverse to crossovers nowadays; Spidey and the Doctor teaming up would have been..... Amazing.

Here's another set, I don't know the exact source of the one with The Thing though.

I remember making this a long while ago, posted it on, I only recently got Tumblr so I decided to just post it here. (If you find it on Reddit, yeah that's my account.)

Marvel used to publish Doctor Who Magazine and comics, so this could have happened if they had continued to license the property from the BBC.

It's quite a fascinating story there, technically Universe #5556 is still the Whoniverse. Though it only goes up to The 8th Doctor I believe.

Why did it stop with Eight?

If memory serves it was because of Marvel just losing the rights to Doctor Who a bit after the television movie. Checking the Marvel Database it says:

"Marvel Comics ceased to hold the license for the Doctor's comic book adventures in 1999."

and,

"The image on this main page depicts the Eighth Doctor, the last to appear in titles carrying the Marvel UK banner on the cover. Marvel, in one form or another, depicted the adventures of the first eight Doctors in the Doctor Who Weekly/Doctor Who Monthly/Doctor Who Magazine comic strip. The comic strip established by Marvel in October 1979 continues to be published as of 2020 by current license holder Panini, who published on behalf of Marvel between 1996 and 1999. A separate North American-based comic book line was established by IDW Publishing between 2007 and 2013, with Titan Comics taking over this range as of 2014."

Now honestly speaking I don't really know what this means for the canonicity of Doctor Who in the Marvel Universe, but take those excerpts as you will.
