A Tale Of Monsters And Middle School

@thenormalschoolofficial

New Salembury is an extremely normal and not haunted Pennsylvania small town, and Nellie Blythe is an extremely normal girl.
TRIGGER WARNINGS: The Normal School is a horror comedy. Heavily features violence, scopophobia, blood, body horror, unsanitary, and unreality. Death is mostly just nonhuman antagonists

semi-serious blog for my original story that can hopefully be better tagged than my main, I’ll put things on here that remind me of it as well as posts from my main about it.

the other post was getting long so I’m starting a fresh post to continue my list of ghost towns i want to name fictional streets after. colorado we have Autobees Plaza, Arauria, Buckskin Joe, Dyersville, Fondis, Haybro, Last Chance, Howbert, Lytle, Mayday Mine, Old Zounds, Swandyke, Uptop, and Tincup. i don’t want to make Gwillimsville or McPhee a street but i bet i can make gwillims and mcphee into last names.

gonna start a list of ghost town names that i want to name street names after in the normal school, everyone help me think of street suffixes. so far we got Possum Trot, Missouri and Bloodland, Missouri. also an honorable mention to Nodaway County, Missouri

also from missouri we got Lone Tree and Hopewell Furnace. I’m probably gonna change it to Hopewell Cokeworks and slap a bunch of ivy on it

from alabama we’ve got Kowaliga and Turkey Town. i recommend reading up on those towns btw, it’s not really relevant to the normal school but it is interesting.

from alaska we’ve got Old Bettles, Flat (see it’s funny because this is a 35° incline road in pennsylvania mountain county), Portlock, King Island and York Street North because even though york is a super common name for places i have to include this village because the entire fucking village died of the influenza in 1918 and isn’t that real fucked up?

arizona we got Big Bug, Nothing, Tip Top, Stanwix, and Wolf Hole

Avatar

for indiana we got Kickapoo, Locust Grove, and Lick Creek.

kentucky we got Notch Lick, Bon Jellico, Scuffletown, Packard, and of course my absolute favorite, Sugartit. this list is liable to grow though if i ever get around to fixing the list of ghost towns in kentucky because it is BONES rn

new york we got Conklingville, Doodletown, and I’m obligated to include Love Canal

tennessee we have Devonia, Olimpus (misspelled on purpose for a niche reference nobody will get but it’s my fucking comic), Fork Mountain, and of course No Business

wisconsin is a doozy with Attica, Dirty Hollow, Dodges Corners, Bluff Sidings, Army Lake, Nasbro, Old Tyrone, Pilot Knob, Root Creek, and Turtleville

Vulture City, Arizona is a ghost town with a supposedly very haunted mine, and Portlock, Alaska is a ghost town abandoned after a number of unexplained deaths attributed to a bigfoot like cryptid

Boston, Ohio, is known as Helltown, Ohio, and is abandoned after the government forced everyone out with no explanation given until close to a decade later after it got fenced off (was unfenced for the decade). The explanation given was a deadly gas leak, but people would drive through the town daily for the decade it was unfenced. I know there are ghost stories about it, but I can't remember any, but I know there are YouTube videos about it.

portlock has been on the list since the beginning there’s also a secret canon explanation for the deaths in this universe but I’m not telling anyone. vulture city is overblown, every mining town sucked like that it’s pretty standard fare. you want a haunted mining tragedy? how about the graveyard in dyea where almost everyone interred there died in one avalanche. helltown is not going to have a street named after it but the “welcome to new salembury” sign is heavily inspired by theirs

even though the bishopville lizardman story is full of holes i’ve decided that it’s real in the normal school universe because it’s so perfect. so unpredictable. so monstrous. so nonsensical. bishopville is totally haunted

the flatwoods monster is not real. all the bad odors and vomiting and black residues were because there was a witch in west virginia in 1952 who was trying to find a way to mechanicize the magic replenishing process, a practice that even witches nearly universally accept as not worth the risk, due to reasons the flatwoods witch would soon discover. there’s a reason nobody has ever successfully invented this technology, and the flatwoods witch is remarkably lucky that she’s the only one who died when her experiments failed, because she could have killed the whole town.

the enfield monster is the same type of occurrence as the dover monster. it’s called a gumpus in new salembury because they form so often that you can’t keep calling it “the new salembury monster” they generally have short lifespans

the pope lick goatman isn’t real and it’s not witches. there’s nothing supernatural happening there at all, that bridge is just a death trap. kind of a missed opportunity to do some witchcraft though, almost a shame.

the beltsville goatman is real because I hate how proud maryland is of being not fucked is when it’s just as fucked as the neighbors. this one’s personal

the fayette county pennsylvania pterodactyl sighting in 2012 is real, it’s directly due to the events of the normal school. great going idiots.
