I love that we live in a society where you’re allowed to build a public space without public bathrooms and then arrest people for reliving themselves outside of a bathroom that was not provided to them. Anything to punish the homeless I guess.
Private companies buy up all the housing to make home ownership unobtainable, private companies raise the rent to make renting less viable, private companies create spaces that are actively hostile to anyone without money, and private companies run the prisons for the people just trying to exist in a world that is engineered to punish them for taking care of their most basic needs. All while our governments do nothing but suck corporate cocks and hand out tax breaks.
And no one cares because it “prevents crime” such as drug use because god forbid someone’s who’s existence is wholly made up of misery wants to feel something approaching pleasure for a few hours.
I go to the grocery store. The only cart left won’t move. These new carts have “smart” locking wheels to keep homeless people from being able to Carry what little they have. Nobody cares that they false trigger all the time because it “prevents crime”.
I take the train. Two police officers are harassing a homeless man. He was sleeping In the elevator to stay warm in the middle of winter. He goes on the train. They say he can’t be on there without a ticket. They’re blocking the exits. He can’t go and can’t stay. They want to escalate the situation. Now the train is late. Nobody on the platform minds because the officers are “Keeping us safe”
I go to the city. I need to take a shit. Every store has their bathrooms locked behind a code and they won’t give it to you unless you buy something. Can’t go outside because there’s no bathrooms and there’s cops on every corner. I need to piss every four hours or so. You’ve created a zone where it’s illegal to be alive for four hours without money.
The only way out of the city is on train or by cab, both owned by private companies. You can walk but the city tore out all the sidewalks to build freeways because the auto industry is to big to fail.
It’s illegal to be alive for four hours without money in this country.
We live in a country where taking a loaded gun into a public space is less legally risky than deciding not to shit your pants there.
