maybe it's because societal standards do not value us and we are constantly subject to rejection, be it by hazard of occupation or told "why pursue it in the first place". You can directly correlate the rise of British heat waves to our newfound appreciation for iced drinks.
Okay I hate regular tea, so I do not drink iced tea.
However, as A BRIT, I’d like to say: we’ve always had iced tea?! And iced coffee/frappes and chocolate milkshakes/milk….
They’re in all coffee shops/cafes, and available in supermarkets. Always have been in all my 20 years of life. Who are all these Brits who don’t know what they are? Are y'all living under rocks or something?!!
I’ve had this discussion with @acuppateaofcourse because she used to live in London, but I don’t really see iced tea in cafes* up here, nor in any of the shops. Iced coffee is much more common; but the only place I’ve ever seen iced tea in my city has been an Italian restaurant which brought out a bottle of Lipton’s brand iced tea when I was 16. I’d never tried iced tea before and was surprised by how syrupy it seemed, which is probably a brand-specific thing, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
*aside from Starbucks and maybe Costa, which is also the first place I ever saw an iced coffee because my friend ordered one and gave herself brain freeze when we were ten
And as for milkshakes it really depends on the cafe, too. There was only one cafe near me which did them and it closed during the pandemic. There’s now a vegan cafe which serves them** as ‘meals’ (???) so I have yet to try one. There’s a place which specifically serves milkshakes and ice cream, but it usually only opens at 10pm so I’ve never been there.
**so not your standard chocolate milkshake and also without dairy milk, so it’s either an oat milkshake or a smoothie. I guess maybe I could try one and then report back.
