The Lovely Creature

A year ago today the great Mark Lanegan left this physical world.🖤 His music meant a lot to me, and his incredible voice made his dark lyrics and music that much more captivating. The lyrics to this illustration are taken from the song “Deep Black Vanishing Train” from the album “Blues Funeral”. I’ll never forget how he, with the most gentle care, rolled up the two illustrations I’d given him after a show, and how genuinely appreciative he was of receiving them.

2020 is coming to an end, and what a strange year it's been.  We can all agree on that. For me, the first half of the year I felt a little burned out creatively, and when the first lockdown happened here in Denmark, that didn't help my motivation. But as the year progressed things seemed to fall more into place, and I reconnected with myself in a way I hadn't in a long time... I felt inspired and excited again about art and my work. 2021 won't magically be better than 2020, but there's hope and a lot to be excited about I think. I'm not that into thinking of January as a fresh start and a change to reinvent one self.. that is to put too much pressure on a single month, that is long and dark and often rather uninspiring anyway. But to continually set new goals throughout the year, as things and circumstances often change. Happy new year everyone! I hope you will all have a lovely night tomorrow regardless of everything.

Come say hi on Instagram

New Nick Cave tarot illustration! "Lucy" 🖤 from the album The good Son. - Follow me on insta for more frequent updates on the project: https://www.instagram.com/thelovelycreature/

"Now the bell-tower is ringing And I shake on the floor O Lucy, can you hear me? When I call and call" . I've always loved this song, the dark agony of longing and yearning for some lost love.

Crashing waves.

Wild landscapes such as mountains and cliffs are some of the tings that inspire me a lot in my illustrations, as well as mythology and folklore.

This drawing was partly inspired by the wild coast of Ireland, and strange tales of sailors and lovers lost at sea, with a ghostly figure sitting on the edge of the cliff, staring longingly towards the horizon.

Sticky Darkness

This illustration was created around the theme of ‘Horror’ and was submitted to a horror zine project. Sadly my piece didn’t get selected for publishing, but then I get to post it here instead! ;)

Keep reading for some thoughts behind the piece:

Manic Street Preachers - If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next...

This song was released 21 years ago, and is as relevant as ever... sadly...

-

If you’ve never really listened to the Manics before, other than maybe this song, and you’re angry at the fucked up stuff that goes on in our world, well, go have a listen to some of their other songs*...May I suggest:

The Intense Humming Of Evil  (disturbing as fuck btw.)

*It’s not like you’re gonna get less angry... ( maybe you’ll even get more pissed off), but at least you'll have a soundtrack to go with your anger...
