terfs, swerfs, and aphobes fuck off. my side blog for all social justice stuff. mostly untagged and runs mostly on a queue. if you wanna talk to me please send an ask or message bc I get so many notifs that I'll never see it otherwise. feminism, pro-choice and all that. this blog has been around for a few years and my opinions, knowledge and views have changed and are changing, so there's probably some contradicting posts. basically if you see something from like three years ago that seems sketch chances are that I changed my opinion in the interim. there's like 30k posts on here I can't go and look thru all of them lmao.

One thing I’m going to make a habit of if I ever have kids is asking “do you want the fast answer or the full answer? »

Because as a child one of the most frustrating things was asking a question and

1) the adult brushed me off with the quickest answer possible because they either didn’t think I would understand the complete answer or because they were busy

Or

2) the adult immediately began to explain in-depth to me, or using a book or computer to show me something that I didn’t care about that much and just wanted a brief answer to

Sometimes kids will ask “what are clouds made of?” And you can say “water” and they will be like “okay.”

And other times they will be like “but why don’t they look like water? How do they get up there? Why do they float?” Etc. Etc.

Yeah! This also applies to adults, tbh. Sometimes I don't want a big explanation, just answer the question!

I’ve definitely done this at work lol.

Ah! Useful scripts for people with anxiety and/or poor social skills!

Spacegirlswirl posted a convoy where I attack someone for saying asexual survivors are lying about their oppression impacting their assault.

I criticized that person brutally years ago, because calling survivors liars regarding their assaults is apologist.

Because asexuals face more sexual violence than lesbians, in every sexual assault study to ever include both groups. That denying this helped the assaults continue and kept us from tackling the true oppressive source of the issue.

But that argument was years ago.

Then spacegirlswirl said I was attacking her for the same reason I did the above individual.

And yeah. You said lesbians wanting you means you don't need their permission.

I hate you both for your well-documented rape apologism.

Spacegirlswirl talked extensively about how she wants me to masturbate and think of her while I cum.

She said this without my sexual consent, because she is a predator who associates with known self-proclaimed TERFs like bigprettygothgf.

Like any decent human I did the right thing and was as mean to her as possible for it. Fuck rape apologists. Fuck TERFs.

Here's the sexual harassment where this predatory creep asked me to cum while thinking about her.

Please tell your friends to steer clear for their own safety

Here's the friend she still defends identifying herself as a TERF.

Please do not believe any lies about Spacegirlswirl caring about the lives of other trans women. She keeps a TERF in the wings for if any of us dares point out her rapey behavior like the sexual harassment screenshotted in the reblog above this one.

She's an extremely talented manipulator. Please love and protect each other online.

the gaslighting jokes are really not funny anymore. you’ve circled from ‘we’re making fun of people watering down the term gaslighting’ to just kind of being dicks. literally just the new ‘triggered’ at this point

yknow obviously saying some shit like “its always been spelled hampter what’s wrong with you?” is a joke, we all know its a joke. but did you consider that… performing an example of an abusive behavior, as a hyperbolic joke… might be. idk. upsetting. to survivors who agree that the term ‘gaslight’ has been watered down and reduced to a joke? triggering, even? 🤔

Honestly these arguments about "anti's" and "ship and let ship" are so bullshit when held up to the light. Oh, you like the idea of this child and this adult in a relationship together? Cool! Now tell your boss about it. Tell your mom. Tell your neighbor who has kids. Tell anyone outside of this anonymous environment.

Because you fucking won't. You know it's wrong and fucked up to want a child to have a relationship with an adult. YOU KNOW that any sane real world person would think you're a disgusting piece of shit if you told them. So you stay in your little online community :) where you can bully others online with no consequences. Because no one would want to be around you if you told them this shit in real life.

The horrific extent of decades of controversial nuclear tests conducted by France in the islands of French Polynesia has been revealed in a new report, calculating the true scale of an unmitigated health disaster that researchers say has been hidden or ignored for decades.
Beginning in 1966, France began in secret a new round of nuclear tests at the Polynesian atolls of Moruroa and Fangataufa – a classified military program that continued for 30 years before ending amidst mass protests in 1996, almost 200 nuclear explosions later.
[…]
“According to our calculations, based on a scientific reassessment of the doses received, approximately 110,000 people were infected, almost the entire Polynesian population at the time,” the researchers explain.
Evidence in the documentation suggests the contamination of radioactive particles settling onto populated regions was the basis for a ‘cluster’ of cancer cases affecting local Polynesians, which were secretly known to be linked to the tests by French military officials.

Class is better understood as a relationship to other human beings than as a set of social markers. It can't be understood as simplistically as "do you give or take orders at work?" but that isn't a bad place to start.

The image of the "working class" conjured by American conservatives, and then taken up by liberals as liberals delegate the elaboration of political mythology and common sense to conservatives, seems to be based on pop culture depictions of white workers and wishful thinking about the size of workforces in specific favored industries (oil and gas). The fact that not even most working class whites correspond to this image doesn't matter much to conservatives or liberals, but for conservatives in particular there seems to be a confusion between what Marxists would call the proletariat and the petit-bourgeoisie. For conservatives, a Starbucks barista isn't working class, but a small business owner who manages employees is. Often this boils down to the performance of imagined "working class" behaviors. A liberal Starbucks employee to a conservative might as well be a bay area tech CEO, because they don't act how conservatives believe working people act.

There's also a confusion of class conflict with the urban-rural divide. There's at least some correspondence with reality there however as class can determine housing prospects in several different ways. That's slightly less egregious to me than making class a matter of cultural performance.

I agree, but I think it’s maybe time to retire describing this as “confusion” and not a deliberate strategy, at least in a lot of cases. Middle class professionals and even business owners, especially White ones living/working primarily in suburban or rural areas, have long been the biggest purchasers of trappings of this allegedly working class identity, just look at the business model of duck dynasty. The clear intent is to obscure class complicity (if middle class) or even outright exploitation (as business owners), to reimagine themselves as atomized and precaritized themselves, by either appropriating the emblems of that from actual working class subcultures (like cowboys! most of whom weren’t White! lots of whom could be described as undocumented and/or LGBT!) or straight up inventing ones.

Anyway, this distinction I think is important to delineate because this “oops I thought I was just a lone person trying to survive the world uwu” narrative most of them are on isn’t just deliberately constructed to brush off the criticism here, but also speaks to protean fascist thinking - in which the facts are rearranged to imagine all limits placed on the most powerful and central in US society as Actual Oppression, and most central to that process is reimagining class as nebulously cultural and largely disconnected from actual material conditions as much as how people might feel about their conditions.

“people hate wandavision bc its trendy and is a female led mcu project which all suffer from unconcious misogynistic bias” ohhhhh my g-d some of you are so fucking stupid

anyways fellow trendy media and women haters make some noise!!

Who hated W/V? That show was brilliant!!!

//I mean, I noticed people were quick to pick up on some of the plot holes and were kinda ticked off with all the Red Herrings, but this is news to me. Is this coming from Twitter or something?

no actually it’s coming from the insane amount of racism and antisemitism

Cold take but disability accommodations for tests are largely meaningless when the disabled applicant is the one who’s legally responsible for collecting, reading, signing, and submitting all relevant paperwork especially when you’re talking about cognitive disabilities because it essentially amounts to “oh you have problems with executive function, focus, and organization? Here’s a bunch of extra hoops steps you’ll have to take that rely on executive function/focus/organization in order to get us to even consider you   (✿˵◕‿◕˵)

I think of this every time I have a PIP review.

disability benefits, and the excuse of "weeding out the fakes"

Its hard for disabled people to get disability benefits, no doubt, and were always told its to “weed out the liars who pretend to be disabled”

All theyre saying, is that they want disabled people to pay the price for abled people who lie to get something they dont need.

Now, when i first heard that excuse i wasnt taken aback by it,

I mean, abled people? Feeling entitled to something specifically meant for disabled people? To the point where disabled people cant get it anymore? That just sounds like another day that ends in “y”.

But i am frustrated with this constant excuse, and why am i?

Because the answer to weeding out the liars isnt to make it ten times as hard to get disability benefits, its to teach abled people that those benefits ARE NOT THEIRS, if one person needs a drink and the other person is stealing drinks, the answer isnt to make it near impossible to get drinks, its to stop the person stealing drinks. Its to teach that person not to steal. And yes, there will always be thieves, you cant stop them all, but these are the LIVES of disabled people that youre messing with, not giving them what they need can KILL them.

*opinion here* Id rather have one or two abled people be ableist and take what isnt theirs, ya know, like they do with our parking spots and elevators and bathrooms, than have it be ten times harder than it already is for disabled to fucking live. Between the time a disabled person gets denied for benefits and the next time they can apply and appeal and possibly get approved(or most likely denied again), their meds, doctors appointments, mobility aids, therapy appointments and general medical problems can increase and cause mental, physical and financial stress that couldve been avoided if they were not denied in the first place.

If youre worried about the “fakers” the answer is not to assume all disabled people are liars and run the risk of making their lives harder and them sicker.

Its to teach abled people to not treat disability as a money grab, its to teach abled people to not take what isnt theirs,

Adding to the ableism isnt gonna make ableism go away

👆🏻

I have a more cynical take which is that gatekeeping the social safety-net isn’t to keep out frauds, it’s to save money by discouraging the legitimately-entitled from applying in the first place.

I don't know if any of you had the same experience as me, but I tried therapy when I was a teenager living in an abusive household and thought it was a waste of time. Ultimately my biggest problems (dad) were beyond my control and no amount of coping would make them better. Now that I'm an adult with actual control over my life and don't live with my dad anymore therapy is MUCH more helpful.

If any of you had bad experiences with therapy when you were younger it may be worth it to try again now.

THE SAME GOES FOR MEDICATION!! I tried meds as a teenager and they were powerless to help much due to my living situation being horrible. I thought that meant medication didn't work for me. Now that I'm out of that situation and trying agajn I can really see a difference.

I think a lot of otherwise-healthy, young trans people ascribe a certain totality of their negative experiences with doctors and healthcare to being trans or cissexism and while that is most definitely the case i think there are ways to talk about it other than “well if i were cis or if this were not about being trans then I would have been seen and treated immediately and all my problems would have been taken seriously” which is just like. not true, if you have needed medical care for even a pretty uncontroversial physical reason.

like the way i’ve started thinking about this is like with a thought experiment: let’s say that gender dysphoria, instead of being a mental or psychological burden, were an actual sensation of physical pain that people had until they transitioned (in whatever medical way). I think people would be surprised that even in this realm, they would face doctors who were suspicious of their pain level, trying to weed out the ‘malingerers’, using the fact that people could still work and left the house against their need for treatment, only take certain people’s plight seriously along certain oppressive lines, etc. Because this is in fact the exact thing that many medical professionals already do with chronic pain and many other chronic conditions that have much less to do with preserving gender values.

apparently native american tribes were in contact with the donner party and offered them food when they saw the colonists were starving and the donner party turned them down and decided to go the whole “cannibalism” route instead.

Until now the Native American perspective has been left out of the telling of the Donner tragedy, not because the wel mel ti did not remember the pioneers, but because they were never asked, or perhaps were not ready to share. Their oral tradition recalls the starving strangers who camped in an area that was unsuitable for that time of year. Taking pity on the pioneers, the northern Washoe attempted to feed them, leaving rabbit meat and wild potatoes near the camps. Another account states that they tried to bring the Donner Party a deer carcass, but were shot at as they approached. Later, some wel mel ti observed the migrants eating human remains. Fearing for their lives, the area’s native inhabitants continued to watch the strangers but avoided further contact. These stories, and the archaeological evidence that appears to support them, certainly complicated my interpretation of the Donner Party event. The migrants at Alder Creek were not surviving in the mountains alone—the northern Washoe were there, and they had tried to help.  (source)

tfw a group of unprepared strangers show up, refuse the food you offer them, start fucking cannibalizing each other, and then call you the savages

The story of the Donner Party is hilarious to me because like, everybody talks about them like these brave pioneers who made the ultimate sacrifice in pursuit of their destiny or whatever the fuck, but they were just complete dumbasses.

Like, have you ever heard of the Murphy Party? Sometimes called the  Stephens-Townsend-Murphy Party? They were the first wagon train of the pioneers to make it over the Sierra Nevada, two full years before the Donners tried it, first of the american pioneers to reach the shores of lake Tahoe, first licensed physician in California, etc. etc. Ten families, about fifty people, not a single casualty (they actually arrived with more people than when they left). Because when the Donners picked the most charismatic city boy as their leader, the Murphys picked a mountain man. Where the Donners decided to take a “shortcut” that was completely impassable based on a letter they got from somebody who wanted to drum up business for a trading post he was building but who had never actually driven a wagon, the Murphys scouted properly and stuck to paths their vehicles could actually traverse. Where the Donners decided to shoot at the people who were already living in the area, the Murphys asked the natives for directions. When they got snowed in, they sent a few men on ahead to bring back supplies to the rest of the party after building a sturdy cabin for shelter, instead of trying to hole up in shoddy tents and lean-tos before eating each other.

Not to mention all the idiotic in-fighting in the Donner party; they were constantly brawling or stabbing each other or exiling people or just leaving old men on the side of the path to die or “accidentally” shooting their rivals while cleaning weapons, while literally hundreds of other wagon trains somehow made it through the same trials without any murder.

So naturally, the Donners got a lake and a pass and a state park named after them and became household words, while anybody who wasn’t a complete moron got maybe a local park or a small creek.

Daaaaaaaaaamn.

It gets even better!

Donner was not the original leader of the group- the expedition started out under the leadership of a man named Reed, who did know what he was doing and had lead several groups safely to the Oregon Territory before.

When they reached the point where the new “California Trail” diverged from the Oregon Trail Donner convinced a large portion of the group to join him and travel across the Sierras.

Reed knew this was a very, very bad idea but Donner was apparently just- extremely charismatic and persuasive. Not only did the Reed Party safely make it to Oregon, as originally planned, but Reed immediately headed south as fast as he humanly could, and upon reaching Sacramento recruited a rescue party to bring emergency supplies up from the other side of the pass.

Unfortunately, it was already too late in the year and the weather forced the rescue party to turn back. Despite knowing the odds against the Donner Party surviving Reed refused to assume their deaths and stayed in Sacramento waiting for the mountain trail to clear.

So not only did Reed warn them not to, he was also the one that found the survivors afterwards.

Fuck Donner.

White people: if you want to help long term: get used to being told your opinion is wrong, irrelevant, or unwanted. Tell your friends to get used to it. Work on getting used to it and do this work with other white people. Because white supremacy has all of y’all very used  to being right and being an inherently valued voice and if we’re going to fight white supremacy you’re going to have to be comfortable surrendering that expectation and also white people will need to learn how to handle being rejected or disagreed with. It’s an extension of racism and racial trauma for black people to try and educate or speak up about our issues only to expose ourselves to your white fragility which  makes you defensive– this defensiveness can look like shutting down, silencing us, painting all corrections or disagreements as ‘fighs’ (extending the idea that black people are aggressive) etc.

White resilience is the opposite of white fragility and black people are VERY good at resilience, unfortunately. Listen to us we know how to combat this.

I have been on this site firmly yelling about social justice for years and haven’t received quite so many upset asks for at least 3 or so until I made this post. Multiple white people have messaged me or replied saying that it’s invalid, ‘racist’ or simply unfair to suggest that white people by virtue of being white may share a common problem. Y'all really do not want to understand that racism is systemic (sidenote, this is why NOTHING I say about you as a group qualifies as racism) and that you are ALL part of the system. It is not possible to fight racism but not address how you perpetuate white supremacy. White people: ask yourself why you are so upset by the idea that your whiteness is under critique. Ask yourself why you feel so comfortable telling the victims of racism how they should (and should not) fight racism. Funny that it makes you uncomfortable to think that perhaps your skin color may, in some cases, render your viewpoint…less than relevant.

Ask yourself why you are flinching and knee jerking at the idea that you may have to give up the privilege of having your voice ALWAYS being accepted and centered. Ask yourself why you think it’s unfair and upsetting that white people’s voices are going to need to be lessened if there is to be real equality. If you think this suggestion to learn to be open to and to accept being wrong, being told you need to listen and not speak, in order to balance the supremacy of white voices and white opinions; if you think this is too ‘rude’ or ‘racist’ or whatever, I want you to understand that that’s white supremacy talking. This is white fragility talking– the slightest suggestion that you may need to examine and surrender social privileges unevenly heaped in your favor has you automatically shutting down and silencing me. So this is me, telling you again: you are wrong more often than you know. And it’s time to accept that if you want to learn and grow. White people: learn to accept being wrong. Learn to accept being questioned and doubted– and learn to question and doubt yourself; ask if you’re thinking critically or just repeating racist shit you’ve heard all your goddamn lives.

The funniest part about the “bad apple” flavor of cop apologia is that the cops disagree

Every time a pig kills an unarmed innocent person and has any kind of trial or review, the defense is always that he’s a good man, he was doing his job perfectly, the entire institution of the police stands behind him and his actions, and the murder of innocent people is an unavoidable consequence of the existence of police, if not an intentional aspect of their job description. They literally tell everyone that innocent people will continue to be killed as long as cops exist and there’s nothing that can be done to stop them, and then they expect you to be okay with that

Cops want to make it very clear to you that if you condemn one cop, you condemn all cops. Maybe you should trust them

The other white gays in the notes saying shit like "oh ho haha I like it anyway tho!"... It's racist. It's a racist tv show on top of being straight. That's why we aren't claiming it. Stop ignoring that. Stop normalizing it. Doing that only allows Disney to keep ignoring the Romani and Black people who have spoken out against the show.

It allows them to continue employing an actress who has repeatedly used racial slurs that she KNOWS are racial slurs. It allows them to continue perpetuating harmful stereotypes against Romani people.

Why don't they wanda outside and envision some bitches

what the hell is with internet people and thinking they get to treat strangers any old way just because they made a funny post or video they liked… can we please not be creeps

that streamer or youtuber or artist or actor or person who just makes funny posts is not your friend, your parent, or your therapist. if you like their content so much, don’t make its creation an unpleasant experience for them by invading their privacy and crossing their boundaries. a lot of you will complain about creepy guys hitting on waitresses or people telling baristas way too much personal information and then go and be That Exact Guy to someone who plays video games online, because you think having some level of interactivity with creators means they’re your pet, or them having any sort of personality means they’re a fictional character you get to bury in your sandbox. if you can’t engage with entertainment without doing this you really need to step away from it and work on developing your relationships with people you actually know.
