Rewriting this post bc Tumblr apparently didn’t like it and decided to delete it. Thanks, Tumblr!

Hey you. Yeah, you. Are you a massive fuckin’ nerd? Do you love Destiny and Dungeons and Dragons? Do you wanna play as your guardian in D&D? I've worked out a build for that! DISCLAIMER: This won't work for every campaign and every setting, and you should talk to your DM about it beforehand to make sure it’s compatible with the game you’re in. Once you’ve done that, you can start building your character! You're going to be at least level three in this character, because you're going to be multiclassing. Your base class, the class that you're going to want for your first level, is cleric. I chose this for the "religious" aspect of having been granted your powers by the Traveler as well as for the fact that clerics are known for healing, and in the game we do get the mechanic that allows us to revive others. You'll want to be a light domain cleric. Your second level is where you choose your in-game class. Are you a hunter? Put a level into rogue. Are you a warlock? Sorcerer. Titan? Fighter. For your third level, you're going to want to pick ranger, specifically the horizon walker subclass. The horizon walker subclass won't kick in until you've got three levels in Ranger, but you'll want to have the basis for it anyway. For your race, you can obviously be a human, or if you want to be an exo, you could choose warforged. For an Awoken character, I think an Elf would work pretty well!

For your background, you can honestly choose whatever you want. I picked folk hero because I feel like that fit with the status that guardians have, but if you want to get skills and proficiencies that your guardian might have had in their first life, feel free to choose another background that gives you the skills you want! You could probably even talk to your DM and have them pick a background for you but not tell you what it is, to kind of play into the "not remembering your past life” aspect of Destiny. So now you have your base character, but you're going to want gear. Again, talk to your DM about what works with their campaign, but once you have your guidelines, go nuts! I tend to use hand cannons, bows, and swords most often in game, so I gave my guardian character a pepperbox pistol, a shortbow, a shortsword, but I also gave her a glaive bc glaives are awesome. Now for spells! As a cleric, you will already have light, burning hands, and faerie fire. In addition to these, I chose guidance, sacred flame, and spare the dying as my cantrips, plus cure wounds, guiding bolt, and healing word as my first level spells "But Jedi, how do ghosts work?" you ask, and folks, I hear you. I hear your questions constantly. They come to me in my dreams like a prophet receiving visions from an angry god. Again, I will disclaim that you should check with your DM before implementing this, but here's how I'm thinking about handling the ghosts. Remember how I said I had chosen healing word and cure wounds as my first level spells? Well, flavor wise, those wouldn't be cast by my character, they would be cast by my ghost. They still would use a spell slot, but in describing them, they’d come from your ghost. If you reach zero hit points and you fail your death saves, that would mean that your ghost was destroyed and you're permadead. Time to roll a new character. It’s not perfect, but I spent a lot of time thinking about this, so let me know what you think and let me know if you use this to play your guardian in a D&D campaign!

Hooray! Yay! Dykes!

I'm not seeing any naked adults in that screenshot...

...There's something deeply messed up about how breasts, which are used by our species to feed babies, are considered to be so perverse and obscene that a child should never see them.

There aren't any naked people in the entire video clip. There's some people that you'd probably see less of their skin on a beach, but only because on a beach they'd probably be wearing a bikini top as well as whatever else they have on. And this is New York City, where toplessness is legal regardless of gender or assigned sex.

Avatar

Toplessness for breasts is legal in most places in the US, unlegislated in almost all that remain, and only illegal in two states: Ohio and Tennessee.

This is because topless equality has been a basic push from feminists for literally decades, until Radfems and NeoCons bonded over wanting a trans genocide less than a decade ago.

It's literally why the "no tits on tumblr" and other lesser SESTA/FOSTA consequences* like it were so jarring. It set back FORTY. YEARS. OF PROGRESS in the rights of people with breasts or perceived as women to wear the same clothes as people without.

Do not let conservatives lie to you about this. The majority of people in the us and the VAST majority of States recognize the right of people to not wear a damn shirt. It isn't obscenity, it isn't even nudity, it's just something pericis men are allowed that everyone else isn't.

Y'know.

Basic sexual discrimination.

*Y'all aren't still on that "it was the Apple app store that caused the tit ban" shit, right? It was the literal US federal government. To be fucking clear.

gotten into a british tv license intimidation rabbit hole. i found a blog where this guy has documented every single intimidating 'you may be breaking the law by not having a tv license, we are going to send over an officer to investigate' letter he's gotten over the course of 19 years. he did a bunch of investigating to see if the tv scanner vans are real and how many there are. he found proof that the names of the representatives who write the emails are just straight up fake people. as far as i know he has never actually been visited by a tv license officer

tl;dr don't pay for a tv license, these people are not cops and have zero legal power, if you just ignore their letters and refuse to let them in or tell them you're watching tv they can't actually do anything

ok, pay attention:

wayne = paladin

katy = rogue

darry = bard

squirrely dan = druid

jonesy and reilly = barbarians

stewart and roald = monks

Gotta respectfully disagree with you on some of these.

Wayne and Katy: both fighters. We’ve seen them fight before on the show, they are strictly no-nonsense, Katy prefers to face her problems head on instead of sneaking around, and Wayne has been shown to not be into religion. Wayne might take a level or two in Ranger bc of his love of dogs.

Darry: Ranger. Farms, works with animals, he’s a ranger

Squirrelly Dan: you hit the nail on the head with Druid

Reilly and Jonesy: I could see barbarian working, but you could also work their fanatical devotion to hockey being translated into cleric

Skids: bards. Their lives largely revolve around performance based activities (dancing, DJing, etc.) and their drug business involves quite a bit of charisma

Actually the real funniest thing about SuperWhoLock in retrospect is that fast forward 10 years from its heyday in 2012 and you got people writing impassioned essays about how an extremely dry and homophobic gay confession scene was the pinnacle of queer media on Supernatural and people writing impassioned essays about how BBC Sherlock was secretly a gay love story despite being also dry and homophobic but no one is writing an impassioned essay about how you can queue up an episode of 2007 Doctor Who on HBO Max from the comfort of your home and see John Barrowman walking around saying “I ❤️ Cock” repeatedly until someone shoots him. And them he doesn’t die because he can’t die. He cannot die

alright so during into the spider-verse's introduction to peter b. parker, we see his wedding, and he stomps on the wine glass right? this is a jewish wedding tradition, which makes this version of peter parker jewish (further confirmed in interviews -- however, i believe this is enough by itself). it's a nice nod to the jewish roots of the character.

we get to see a bunch of peter parkers throughout the spider-verse films, and none of them have any explicit religious associations like peter b. parker. except for one!

here we have gwen stacy's peter parker and aunt may, from earth-65, saying grace over a meal. from my understanding, this is generally a christian practice -- in judaism, we prefer to say short prayers before eating, and save the long, in-depth ones for afterwards. so to me, this was a clear example of the character being coded as christian. i was a little disappointed that they didn't make peter parker jewish here too, but since across the spider-verse discusses variants and the differences between instances of the same person between different universes, i interpreted this as a continued commentary on peter parker's ethnicity -- although he was initially jewish-coded and one of his two creators, stan lee, is jewish, this is often erased, especially in more modern interpretations of the character.

and then i remembered that this peter parker also literally turns into the lizard.

and y'know what? good call on that one guys.

So @carriageofaerietails and anyone else who wants to hear: the Time Someone Tried To Insist I Was Jewish.

Warning: anti-semitism.

I was still in school, probably somewhere between 13 and 15 when this story takes place and I was in RMPS (Religious, Moral, and Philosophical Studies) class which was one of my favourite classes and the one I passed my first exam in with 97% and then greatly disappointed my teacher in when I didn’t study for my Higher and only got 74%.

I was sat beside a boy we’re going to call Richard. Because he was a dick. Our surnames were right next to each other so I dealt with this boy for all of my school life because he also become House Captain the same time I did (no I did not go to private school, UK schools often have houses and shit because why not).

We were on a break and I being the nerd I was had whipped out my book to crack through a chapter before we got back to whatever we were doing. It was probably Buddhism because I swear to you, that’s the only religion we ever did. Every single year we studied Buddhism and I did this for five years. Honestly, I feel I have an excellent grasp on the religion and it seems like a cool one.

Anyway, Richard saw me reading and leant over to ask, “Is that the Jewish Bible?”

I stopped, confused as all hell, and said, “No?”

“Yes it is.”

“No, it’s not. Also, I’m pretty sure it’s called the Torah.”

“Are you Jewish?” He asked with a strange intensity.

I’m not. Honestly, at this point in my life, I’d never knowingly met a Jewish person and I don’t think he had either. This was a small rural Scottish school, not being Church of Scotland was already religious diversity.

I - for anyone who doesn’t know - am a half-Catholic, half-Protestant Northern Irish atheist. We had been raised atheist. I’m not even christened much to my Nana’s horror.

“No, I’m not Jewish,” I said.

“Then why are you reading their Bible?” he insisted. His entire face was twisted and I was slowly realising that Richard wasn’t joking. I’d spent my entire school life being accused of being things I was not: a trans woman, a lesbian, a member of the IRA, even a prostitute.

But all of those had been to hurt me. This was serious.

He leant towards me and spat, “You killed Jesus. It’s your fault.”

Dear reader, I was confused and shocked. You see, up until this moment I had never heard of this. And I’d done the reading. Jesus, if he existed, had been killed by the Romans. He’d been betrayed by Judas. Also, that was two thousand years ago. I was thirteen/fifteen. I feel like I would have remembered doing that.

I relayed this. I told him that even if I were Jewish, there was nothing wrong with that. He does not seem happy.

“Then why are you reading a book with gold pages?”

Back then, I didn’t understand what the fuck this would have to do with Jewish people. I had some vague knowledge of an incorrect connection, but couldn’t put it together. Now, I’m horrified I didn’t have a proper defence and that I was so naive.

At that moment, the teacher (who liked me immensely) returned and with one final antisemitic hiss, Richard retreated.

I didn’t tell my teacher because I was bullied so often that it was getting embarrassing but I remembered it.

The only thing I came away from that conversation with was confusion over Richard’s choice of attack.

You see, dear reader, the book I had pulled out to race through a chapter was none other than The Picture of Dorian Grey, by Oscar Wilde. A book with expresses antisemitic sentiments more than once.

I do remember my exact train of thought (but not exact wording because I was thirteen to fifteen and unaware of my sexuality if not my gender identity, I’m nonbinary masc) going as follows:

“If you were going to try and insult me and infer something about my character from my reading material… call me gay. It would at least be accurate! You utter philistine.”

That very Christian boy, by the way, as I already mentioned became a house captain alongside me when we were seventeen. He refused to participate (actually along with all the other house captains) in our mandated presentation about bullying the queer kids and - when I came out to the whole school in the middle of it - cornered me on the stairwell.

“I don’t approve of your life choices,” he said, looking me up and down, “and I certainly don’t approve of you pushing it on the younger kids.”

I - the founder and head of the only drama club in this school which was expressly for the bullied queer and neurodivergent kids to come and hide in during lunch due to memories of my queer friends and I being physically assaulted - said nothing back.

“And because of that,” he continued, “I don’t think we should ever speak again.”

I remember he was on the stairs below me because I remember taking a step towards him and still being taller. I remember thinking back to that moment in RMPS 4-2 years prior.

“Richard,” I said with surprising cheerfulness, “If I’d know that’d been the outcome, I’d have come out years ago.”

The shock on his face fuelled me for years. I’m not usually eloquent in face-to-face conflicts, I tend to need things at least half planned first, but that day it worked.

I don’t know what happened to Richard, I haven’t seen him since I left school but I don’t have hope he’s gotten better.

But yeah, that’s the really long story of the time someone insisted I was Jewish.

Everytime I see posts like this I get filled with such profound sadness

Cause you know who has the same brainrot as you? The same unhinged feelings as you after you've read the fic? The person who always wants to scream about the fic with you?

THE PERSON WHO WROTE IT

I never used to leave comments but since I got into the habit of commenting on everything i enjoy it's been incredible. Especially when the author gets back to me about it and we get to have a discussion of what other ideas they had. One writer replied to my comment with a 5 paragraph essay detailing the Floorplan of the building the characters lived in and it was incredible

Anyways this is all to say that if you find a fic that just makes you want to scream from the rooftops, leave a comment saying that to the author and maybe they will join you and you can scream incoherently together

Rb'ing with your tags @grimm-lynn because spot! on!

Actually you know what? I'm not done. Cuz you know who else you could talk about the fic with? Apart from the author? All the other people who read and enjoyed it! But you won't know they exist and who they are unless they comment and they can't know you exist etc unless you! all! comment!

So if everyone or at least more people comment not only does it go out to the author, you can also find each other! And that's how you build connection and even a community! By having the courage to put yourself out there and by seeing each other!

Fandom is so rewarding when it's a connecting activity you actively engage in with others who share your passion! It's always going to be atomized and unfulfilling if everyone just sits alone in their room. The people you are looking for are! right! there! And all you actually have to do is reach out!

the rights of homeless ppl are literally never considered when ppl talk about public sex

this isn’t me saying i think people should have the right to fuck on the public bus in front of god and everybody’s kids and repulsed people— i’m saying none of you think in terms of, “unnuanced approach to law (including sexually related law) can lead to people being stripped of rights for no reason without recourse

if homeless people have no place to safely, securely fuck

they will fuck in that alley. they will leave that condom in the park. they will fuck Wherever

the things you dislike involved in the topic has direct causation in loss of rights from being homeless

what sorts of people tend to be homeless? or tend to be in a situation they can’t fuck at home? is it trans people and other lgbtqia+ folks? oh shit it is. maybe the real public sex is the rights we lost along the way

personally i would prefer people didn't have sex in public but it's necessary to make sure everyone has access to a nice private space to have sex in if they want sex! somewhere conducive to the kind of sex they want to have (a bathroom may be private, but if movies are to be believed some people want a bed involved).

also i don't have personal experience but i imagine that congregate living spaces (group homes, shelters, etc.) are also not always great for finding private spaces for sex.

“public sex” is not just a casual term, it’s terminology with a specific meaning. even sex where you can’t see someone that is on public land is legally considered public sex.

please ensure you know the full extent of what’s being talked about before casual commentary so you don’t go off topic or confuse things.

lgbt+ people also, providing both their houses are unsafe or unaccepting places, may also be driven to public sex and find themselves with sticky legal consequences.

this isn’t even beginning to broach things like people being put on sex offender registries for having consensual sex in “public” (like their car) or using the bathroom (no restrooms available and what is anybody supposed to do?)

I've decided to use the term "convenience food" instead of "junk food."

I think it's more honest, and less loaded. It's all food, some of it is more appropriate when you don't have the spoons left for food prep. It takes slightly more energy to peel a banana than to open a bag of chips.

We try to save the convenience food for days when we need something easy, so eat a banana.

Avatar

ENNH! WRONG ANSWER

All food fuels your body. If it contains calories, it is fuel. Some foods are denser fuels, some foods have nice additional benefits, but all foods fuel you.

Some foods are really good for building muscle, or supporting your bone health, or giving you energy. Some foods are really good at tasting nice. All of them fuel your body.

Avatar

Good food/bad food is just puritan dichotomous thinking in service of the Shame Industrial Complex- let's get those "should" hooks intob everything you enjoy.

Food is fuel. Your relationship with it is personal. Almost all dichotomies oversimplify beyond utility.

Wow, Daegu (South Korea) went from not protecting Daegu Pride in 2018 the way they should've to receiving education sessions on Queer culture and becoming public allies and vowing to protect Pride from then on and doing exactly so every single year culminating in this year when their hobgoblin of a mayor tried to destroy Pride, and now even protesting in favor of Pride? Growth.

It's important to note that the courts also supported Pride and the mayor publicly threatened the police chief, yet the police still went to protect and support Pride.

"South Korean news agency Yonhap estimated that about 500 protesters and 1,500 police officers were at the scene. The festival ultimately continued, with the parade taking place as planned."

Interesting read. I had to lose over 100lbs for top surgery but that was before the study was published. Fucked they didn't tell this guy sooner. I was warned by Denver Health before I even got my consultation.

They also enforce the weight loss mandate as a means to show them that 'you're really serious about this'. It's fucking disgusting is what it is.

europeans have types of racism i didn't even know existed

you can drive for two hours in europe and pass through 17 different types of racism

Daily reminder that the actual World War II Nazis were trying to exterminate different types of white people that most Americans can't tell apart just by looking

Meanwhile the Japanese were doing their own race war in Asia against other Asians that most Americans aren't even aware are different races

In short: the almost literally black and white racism type of thinking in America, shockingly, doesn't apply to the rest of the world!

I am fucking sick of americans and their "it's not racism it's xenophobia so it's fine and I am very smart 🤓🤓🤓"

Yes, there is xenophobia. Between nations that perceive each other as weird but equal. The "weird but equal other". Like Brits s French. But if you move east of Germany and south of Rome, there is the "inferior other". The "never quite European". The filthy savage. Lazy, corrupt, hateful, dirty. And that element of superiority that goes on a systematic level, beyond silly "haha moustache pizza baguette" joke makes it racism and it gets worse the further east and south you go.

Avatar

I reblog this for the last comment. Xenophobia exists between weird but equal ones. In Eastern-Central Europe bigoted part of society is also xenophobic against “superior but sinful other” -  the rich western countries with the same-sex marriages, legal abortion and transgender activists to “corrupt our children” and “destroy our traditional values”. Hostility and mistrust mixed with respect. These countries are percevied as strong enough to threat our culture and our way of life.  And there is racism against “inferior other”. Not European enough, underpaid seasonal workers  etc. I think that racism has a lot to do with capitalism. You need “inferior other” for hard, underpaid labour - that people in your country will not agree to do for such money and in such conditions.

Avatar

I highly highly encourage people, not just USAmericans, to learn about racism in other countries because it really shows the true nature of racism and race.

In the US (and in the Western world) everything feels very crystal clear: there are white people, black people, Middle-Easterns, Latines, Asians, Native Americans and Polynesians. Westerners think these groups are neatly separated from each other and that you can always tell who is who by their looks. But this is a very superficial and misleading view of the concept of race.

Race is a social construct and a spectrum. There's no line that separates Africans from Middle Easterns and Middle Easterns from South Asians and South Asians from Eastern Asians and so on. I’ve seen people from Bangladesh that look Middle Eastern, despite being neighbors with South Asian countries. There are people in Kazakhstan that don’t look “European” but aren’t as “Asian” as someone from Japan. Some ethnic groups of Siberia are very similar-looking to some Native American tribes. And the list could go on forever.

Like, think of race as color: at what point does red become orange? How much yellow does it need to have to be considered orange? At what point does someone stop looking African and starts looking Middle Eastern? How light does their skin need to be, what size do their nose and lips have to be? And all of this is without considering race mixing, which has happened and happens a lot. Race has no basis in the real world. You can say that a panther is a different species than a lion, but you can't say that someone from Sudan is a different race than someone from Egypt.

Despite all this, we are desperate to put people into boxes, and it gets ridiculous. Yes, there are substantial physical differences between white and black people, but the physical differences between the Han Chinese, the Mongolians, and the Tibetans are minimal. And yet the Han Chinese have a story of being racist to those groups (here's a Wikipedia article if you want to know more). What is happening in Ukraine is not just imperialism and nationalism – it’s also the racism ethnic Russians have towards other ethnic minorities in Russia and the former Soviet countries. The Austro-Hungarians considered the Balkan people an inferior race, and so did the Nazis with the Slavs. I unfortunately don’t know of any specific cases but I have heard of ethnic wars between African tribes, so I’m leaving another Wikipedia article with plenty of examples. Then again, the number of examples of people you’d think are the same race who hate each other is infinite.

Also as the people above said, it's really difficult to establish a line between xenophobia and racism. I’m bringing back the example of the Han Chinese and the ethnic Russians because it’s happening in the same country, so you can’t talk about xenophobia in those cases. Not to mention that countries are arbitrary and do not reflect the different ethnic groups that exist. The Balkan countries all hate each other but they used to be part of the same country for almost a century. And the different countries in Africa were established by the colonial Europeans, not by the ethnic groups in Africa themselves (and that’s why there were and are so many ethnic tensions within African countries).

And while I’ve used the term ethnicity for the most part, we judge people based on looks, aka race. You wouldn’t say someone looks of Nuer ethnicity; you would just say they look black/African. So discrimination based on ethnicity is just racism with a few extra steps.

This is what USAmericans and Westerners don’t realize when we talk about racism in Europe and other continents, because we have been taught this idea that racism is just when white people hate black, Asian, Latine, Middle Eastern, Native and Polynesian people. It’s incredibly important to learn that while this is the most egregious type of racism, it’s not the only one, not just because it helps to understand another equally relevant side of racism, but also because it’s very tone-deaf and offensive to tell an Albanian that the racism and genocide they've suffered at the hands of the Serbs is not "as valid" because they are white, or that what the Koreans suffered during WW2 at the hands of the Japanese is xenophobia and not racism.
