I’ve seen a number of people say “why don’t they just make up fake military vehicles instead for games” in regards to the War Thunder debacle. Now, the average tumblr user’s autism isn’t about military hardware, so I get why it would be no different to them, so I’ll instead put it in language that makes more sense.

In Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing, if you were planting fake crops, catching fake fish, and using fake tools, it would undoubtably change how the game feels. If instead of corn you bought kernelshucks at the general store, and you tilled the soil with a dirtscratcher instead of a pitchfork, it would be weird, right?

Men were duped into buying bigger, heavier, more expensive, more dangerous, less practical vehicles that cause exponentially more damage to public infrastructure and our health so they can feel like a Big Boy and make car (and gas) companies way more money. SUVs are broadly the same.

They’re extremely unsafe for pedestrians, bikers, and drivers in smaller cars, which when coupled with legally-enforced car-dependent infrastructure, pushes more people to buy these death machines out of “safety” so they aren’t turned into paste by another pickup driver.

They need to be outlawed (or at least heavily, heavily regulated) and we need speed limiters for them (and all cars) in cities. It should not be legal to be driving 8000 pound monsters down city streets at 40 mph
