Scorched Through With Revelation

Scorched through with Revelation, like a Prophet without any god --- A Fallen London liveblogging/RP blog for Var Sheridan, the Insatiable Academic, self-appointed Professor of the Correspondence. Note: this blog contains extensive spoilers for the game in general.

Oh my god I haven’t posted here in three months.

I’m still alive, just metaphorically lying face down on the floor.

Notability!!! 15!!!!

[Screenshots show the text for drawing Slowcake’s Amanuensis card and reaching Notability 15 - There is a scattering of typographic eccentricities beside your entry, but who cares? The important thing is that you have a COLOUR PLATE!]

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH

The Amanuensis can KISS MY ASS

Next stop, capping Var’s Watchful to 215

I haven’t been posting because I’ve been playing a lot of Sunless Skies and also trying AGAIN to get to notability 15. This time, this time I’ll succeed.

I extremely love that there’s one Officer storyline with echoes of Weekend At Bernies or at least general ridiculous corpse comedy.

I extremely HATE the Undeparted, which make awful noises and attack in hard to dodge ways and are hard to hit and chase after me.

Totally unrelated to any of that, how’s the font size on my blog? Is it alright for you all? Including the tag size and the colour contrasts? I want people to be able to read it comfortably.

I appreciate the fact that Failbetter Games seem to have incidentally gained a significant queer following for their stuff in the beginning because of the Fallen London gender options along with having dalliances with NPCs open to all player characters, and as far as I can tell, sort of Ran With It and built on that, and now there’s all this lovely LGBTQ representation in Fallen London and Sunless Seas and Sunless Skies

(Partly because of the LGBTQ Sunless Seas and Skies backers who had their characters and own portraits added to the games, of course!)

It’s also great that it’s something FBG continue to work on, for example by doing a consultation session on trans and non-binary representation while making Sunless Skies

It seems to me like a very good example of a positive feedback loop between a fanbase and an indie games studio, and it’s meaningful to me because it’s created a setting that I’m excited to engage with as a non-binary person

Thank you for these great additions to my post :3c

Please let your friend know that I, a rando on tumblr, would like to thank him for his good writing and for furthering the Gay and Trans Agendas

Side note would you believe that I made a Fallen London account in 2011 with the mysterious and indistinct gender option before I even figured out I was non-binary, forgot to use it at all for four years, and then unearthed it and started playing in 2015 after figuring my gender out

I made a non-binary player account under my own name before I realised I was non-binary

Prime trans egg behaviour right there

I JUST figured out that Albion is laid out like a giant clock with the ports and wonders and stuff all spaced around London in the middle.

It’s central symmetry based around the Throne of Hours, so if you draw a line from one major map feature through the middle, there’s something roughly at an equal distance on the other side.

This is the only way I was able to find all the ports, so I don’t know how anyone else who didn’t notice that has been managing to get around.

Me, bouncing up and down “I know who named these rocks!!!”

:D That me rocks!! Thanks for showing me you found them!! I’m still searching for them myself, despite getting directions from people.

Good luck finding them! I could… send you a screenshot of the general map area, maybe? Tho I totally understand if you want the Authentic Hunting Experience™

Thanks for offering! I managed to find them in the end, phew. It’s easy to miss, the map is so large.

THROWS THE DOOR OPEN

It’s my Correspondence Sigil!! I provided a very short abridged version of Var’s story to inspire the Failbetter artists with, so more accurately it’s Var’s sigil.

Thank you to @spoiledchestnut for generously donating me the use of their sigil reward from the Kickstarter to make this happen.

I’m seriously considering getting a tattoo of this someday. It makes me very happy to leave a little mark on a fictional universe I love, too.

This is my first introduction to the universe, and it feels alien and peaceful and eerie in equal amounts. There’s a lot of lore that I don’t have the full picture on, but I’m mostly just sitting back and enjoying the ride? I’ve been accepting it if something doesn’t entirely make sense, and keeping my eyes open for anything that might clarify it later on. The feeling of not understanding what’s going on feels very in-line with what my captain’s been up to haha

Oooh, alien and peaceful and eerie is a cool way to describe it. I’m glad you’re enjoying the setting, and thanks for sharing! There’s a lot to dig into, it gets pretty wild.

Not understanding what’s going on as a player matching up to what one’s character is up to is pretty similar to how I felt when I started playing Fallen London.
