24th April – remembrance of the Armenian Genocide

Deportation of and excesses against peaceful Armenians is increasing and from harrowing reports of eye witnesses it appears that a campaign of race extermination is in progress under a pretext of reprisal against rebellion.” - AMBASSADOR MORGENTHAU, Constantinople, 16 July 1915

Although the Armenian Genocide of 1915-23 has it’s beginnings further back in history, the 24th April is used as the marker and the day of remembrance. In 1915, under the rule of the Three Pashas (Talaat, Cemal and Enver Pasha), the Ottoman state began its systematic extermination of its Armenian population – the deportations of thousands, many of whom would die on these death marches before ever reaching designated areas, to outright massacres and other atrocities. Estimates put it to around 1.5 million deaths. The actions taken against the Armenians would later lead to the Greek and Assyrian genocides.

Their existence must come to an end, however tragic the means may be; and no regard must be paid to either age or sex, or to conscientious scruples.” - TALAAT, 16 September 1915

Today, Turkey (and other states) do not recognise the Armenian genocide and denialism still prevalent around the world. Denialism is spread through not just academic revisionist theories but also with the media (films/TV/social media) which depict the events as ambiguous of the intent or underplayed entirely (e.g. The Ottoman Lieutenant). Despite this, steps have been made in recent years for recognition and more states have begun to openly accept the term of genocide, including most recently the US (2019).

I just wanna share something that has been happening recently in my country that just warms my heart.

So in the Philippines, the national government has been handling the pandemic horribly. Contact tracing is decentralized, implementation of travel restrictions were delayed (which could’ve helped curb the spread earlier), absurd restrictions have been imposed (which gave way for police to abuse their power against quarantine violators, who were usually out for essentials) –all the while killing activists, spreading disinformation and implementing a law that targets critics of the administration and our freedom of speech. (and also putting ₱389-million pesos worth of dolomite sand on Manila Bay in the middle of the pandemic which could’ve been used to feed millions). Oh and as of writing, we are tallying up to 9,000-10,000 cases daily.

That being said, millions of low-income households around the country are struggling to put food on the table. Government payouts per household (which goes as far as ₱1,000- 8,000 pesos/$20-160 depending on your wages) are not enough to sustain months of lockdown and no income.

Tired of witnessing inaction, a local woman named Patreng Non made a makeshift pantry right outside her community in Quezon and named it the “Maginhawa Community Pantry”. The rule was simple. It simply wrote “Magbigay ayon sa kakayahan, kumuha batay sa pangangailangan.” (translation: “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs”)

The pantry gained traction, and after that, donations started pouring in from local farmers, fishermen and other regular folks

First Photo: Patreng Non refilling the community pantry Second Photo: Local fishermen about to donate 50 kilos surplus of fish Third Photo: Cardboard saying: “Free sweet potatoes from the farmers of Paniqui, Tarlac” Fourth Photo: Tricycle drivers helping repack donations received Fifth Photo: Current pantry with signages designed by local students

There was no panic, no hoarding, and people only took what they needed and left. Soon enough, community pantries started to pop up in different provinces.

This pantry and the nurturing community behind it has done more for the community in a week than what the government has done for the Filipino people in months.

isnt there a way to shut the robots down by yanking on a lever?

Yeah it’s the battery pack.

Or if you wanna be extra, use a CO2 fire extinguisher. Freeze the battery and the fucker will die without any mechanical issues when he thaws.

God I fuxking love those people who think they're gonna start a war when the government eventually does try to just steal guns from people, they act like they're gonna be some fucking revolutionary motherfucker, truth is these people are all talk and are 100% going to give up their guns the second the government comes knocking, as a person who supports the second amendment above all others,They ain't as tough as they make themselves out to be, cause the truth is if they really wanted to defend the fucking constitution they would have already started a war or whatever the fuck, they haven't because they are nothing but weak as dumbasses who think they are tough shit.

Great people think I'm a fucking fed now cause I said they aren't tough shit like they think they are just fantastic, I forgot the Republicans first defense is similar to the left's, only instead of calling you a nazi or racist they call you a government agent.

Fucking hell can't wait for people to fucking call me fed cause they can't do anything else.

Why are leftists so obsessed with banning shit? As soon as something makes a few people uncomfortable, the immediately reaction is to fucking ban it lmao

authoritarianism, simple

So, India is dying.

Look, I know a good number of you are from the US and things aren't amazing there either, but my country is literally on the brink of collapse. So I'd love it if we could talk about that for a minute.

If you can't do anything else, please just read and reblog.

And Xi & CCP laughed, getting exactly what they planned.

Dude can you fuck off, people are dying and all you can think about is adding your stupid political bullshit? Go fuck yourself. This is what happens when you fall so far into politics. It's all you can think about. Fuck you.

Dear govt.

How bad do you need to fuck up THAT YOUR SHORTCOMINGS ARE TRENDING ON TUMBLR! FUCKING TUMBLR!

wait its that bad in india????

as of 22nd April 2021 we have about 16.3M new cases and a death toll of 187K . Only about 1.4% of the population has been fully vaccinated yet.

on top of that, we’ve been facing a major shortage in oxygen supply (to the point where the govt has decided to airlift oxygen from other nations), a shortage in hospital beds and services. The numbers keep rising and with the spread of the new strain, the scenario has transformed into something deadlier than ever.

our infrastructures are falling apart and we need all the help possible at this very moment so the nation can be atleast saved when there’s still a chance. I’ve already lost two of my friends, a teacher and family to the second wave and I can only imagine how much worse it can get. so i would like to take this opportunity to link in some donation posts below–

Getting the word out at this time of crisis matters.

Please reblog and help

A North Carolina man with nearly $40,000 in cash landed at Sky Harbor in August of 2020…and had it all taken away by police.

Officers suspected him of money laundering, and months later even though he's not charged with a crime, he hasn't seen a dime of his money returned.

It’s not illegal to fly domestically with a large amount of cash. but because police suspected Jerry Johnson *could* be doing something illegal, they seized it.

More than 2,000 miles away from Phoenix, Arizona, Jerry Johnson owns Triple J Logistics, his North Carolina trucking company that hauls freight and tractors on the east coast.

Johnson says he saw an auction in Arizona that could be a new opportunity to expand his business.

“I saw that they had the model and brand of the truck I was looking for, so I was going to go to the auction and buy the truck out there,” Johnson said

Johnson flew out to Phoenix with $39,500, funds he had saved from his business, and the other part a loan from a family member.

After landing at Sky Harbor, Johnson was stopped by an undercover Phoenix Police officer near baggage claim.

“Who purchased your ticket? Where did you get his money from? He didn’t ask me anything about my company, he said I was part of a money laundering investigation,” Johnson recalled.

Police seized the money and let him go.

Phoenix Police said Johnson informed them the money belonged to several different people and they had “received additional information related to him.”

Institute for Justice attorney Paul Avelar said Johnson had two past drug charges, but those were long over and had nothing to do with his current business.

“He can account for this money from his business from a loan from his uncle, there’s no evidence that this is money that was going to used to commit a crime, was the proceeds of a crime, no nothing,” Avelar said.

Avelar said the Maricopa County Superior Court judge ruled Johnson failed to prove he owned the cash and failed to prove it wasn’t connected to any crimes.

Avelar helped file an appeal last week.

“Failed to prove he owned the cash”

Innocent until proven guilty is a farce. In the American police state, you have to prove your innocence.

Imagine how this will go when they institute digital currencies.

“We’ve audited your bank statement and can only find proof for 40% or your funds, the rest will be seized.”

Without government, who will rob you for tax money in order to fund organizations that also rob you while proclaiming it's to keep you safe from those other, more sinister robbers?

Okay yeah no offense I would rather be friends with people who do problematic fiction but are nice, kind people, then be friends with people who make morally conscious ‘pure’ fiction but are absolute shitheads who send death threats and start witch-hunts.

People in the notes going full retard huh

A giant salamander emerged from Kyoto’s Kamogawa on July 4, 2014, following torrential rains that flooded the river.

Four years later to the date, it returned.

FLAT FUCK FRIDAY YOOOOOOOOOOOO

the new army ads are so awful. Trying to sell actual war and human suffering as a fun little vidoe game career is disgusting

Like at least the propaganda they showed me as a teen was something about serving a cause greater than yourself and self sacrifice for your loved ones. Even though it was bullshit it was mildly better than army = irl fortnite kiddos

wow i wonder if that 300 year gap could be explained by any outside factors…….whoa! for some reason it lines up with the timeline of britain’s invasion and subsequent colonization of ireland! wild, huh? i wonder if the two are connected in some way? i guess the world will never know….

“why do the Irish hate the English so much? It couldn’t have been *that* bad!!”

This was in place till 1973.

Seeing non irish people reblogging this makes me happy
