they really thought they'd just give Colin a larger shirt and people wouldn’t notice he got bigger?? he uncovered his forearms for 9.5 seconds one time and people went ballistic over it. seriously, I've read some of the things y'all have written in the tags under gifsets of that scene and let me just say I understand why Colin Morgan keeps away from the internet

I was just thinking about how canon!merlin is basically incapable of being normal about arthur. and if they ever ended up together, I think he'd do something weird at least once at some point, like. just fucking bite arthur out of the blue while they're in bed or something. I'm not talking about a sexy bite either. I'm talking an "I've succumbed to the intrusive thoughts in my head" kind of bite. tell me I'm wrong

Arthur is like God he is so gorgeous... I wanna kiss him and Merlin's like I love him so much.. m gonna bite a chunk out of that beautiful face.... Goin for it...

Look at the king of Camelot, who hatttesss loosing.... isn't even mad or even teeny bit angry for loosing to his manservant.

Something i really like about Merlin is how they didn’t make love a redemptive force. Uther loves both his children very much – doesn’t make him a good man or even necessarily a good father. Merlin and Arthur love each other so much, but it doesn’t save either of them, nor does it always makes them better –  oftentimes, it makes them worse. It makes the love no less compelling or meaningful – in my opinion, it only makes it more so, and it’s a more realistic approach to love. Thoughts and feelings!

I hate to break it to you guys but once you Merlin you can't Merlout

I just love Merlin loving magic, those moments are the best ones for me. The dragon out of fire, the butterflies, the horse out of smoke, the flying lights…it’s just so Merlin, and it makes your heart ache how badly he just wants to make pretty things

It’s so great to see how happy magic makes him, and how badly he wants Arthur to feel that too (and not only Arthur)

It’s what’s so good about his character, he stays optimistic and good, despite all this hate and murder.  Even in season 5, yes. The fact that when he gets his magic back he could do whatever he wants, and he chooses to create butterflies

This particular scene makes me sad. Look at him

Merlin doesn’t have a whole lot of opportunity to use his magic for fun really, you can see how badly Merlin wants to be free. It’s something tragically beautiful.

Kudos to Colin for catching all of Merlin's emotions so perfectly.

Would you looka at the last guy ans see how quick is the switch from that happy, glee like feeling when he is doing magic and then going all sad realizing he can't be making these beautiful Magicky things or he will be killed. I mean it was so freaking real. I felt it to the core. I couldn't have asked for a better Merlin. Colin's portrayal of Merlin is purely iconic and nobody can do it the way he has defined this role. Tell me you don't agree.

Merlin is the FATHER of savagery:

“Look, I’ve told you you’re an ass. I just didn’t realize you were a royal one.”

“How long have you been training to be a prat, my lord”

Arthur: “We’re supposed to be hunting. It requires speed, strength, and an agile mind!” Merlin: “So you’re able to get by on two of the three then?”

Uther: “If this were a time of war, I’d have you flogged.” Merlin: “But since it’s not we’ll let it go just this once?”

“One day you’ll transform into a beautiful prince. But magic’s outlawed in Camelot so that’ll probably never happen.”                                      

Merlin: “She likes you?” Gaius: nods head Merlin:“Oh, that is disgusting.” “Imagine…imagine if she kissed you! UGH”

Arthur: “Take some advice from someone who knows about women-” Merlin: “If such a person existed maybe I would”

Arthur: "You have the mind of a child” Merlin: “Yet I’m still more intelligent than you" 

"I take it you haven’t come all this way JUST TO SMASH MY FAVORITE POT”

Leon: “Whats the job, exactly?” Merlin: “To kill Arthur” Leon: “Driving you mad isn’t he?” Merlin: “Not for much longer!”

Gaius: “Sometimes two heads are better than one.” Merlin: “Yes but not when one of them is yours.” 

“PERCIVAL, that is a sword, it DOES hurt”

“Will it be hot? Will it be cold? Will it be wet? Will it be dry?" 

Merlin: "I wouldn’t do that if I were you because if you do that….you’ll never learn of my plan.” Arthur: “… What plan?” Merlin: “EXACTLY! That’s why you can’t run me through!”

“Don’t think too hard, I wouldn’t want you to hurt yourself”

“Are you threatening me with a SPOON?”

Morgana: “You’re just my imagination” Merlin: “That’s right. I’m not really here. Just pretend i’m not really here!”

“The belt is one hole shy of perfection!”

“Do you want us to help you?…. Or do you want to do this alOoOone" 

……

…

No other character will be as iconic as Merlin :)

I'm still so pissed about Merlin ending not because the episode was bad. Actually the episode per se was beautiful. Colin and Bradley were perfect. I cried.

I'm pissed because the protagonist was set up to fail, which doesn’t make for satisfying storytelling at all.

That's what gets me about the finale. For 5 series and 65 episodes, we've been promised Albion and freedom for sorcerers. And, okay, sure maybe Merlin got that when he went back to Camelot under Gwen's (and possibly Leon's) rule, but Arthur was supposed to be at his side as they unite the lands. When you watch it you're kinda just left going 'What the fuck?', and not in a good way

I mean, you could probably argue that the ending makes some sense, because Arthur did accept Merlin in the end, and it can be assumed that he was made free and Albion was perhaps born even after his death. In a way, they did unite the lands and make magic free and Arthur was at his side, albeit for only like a day. But that's the thing, we are just left to assume, because of that strange lorry-Dragon scene at the end. For all the emotional impact they've put into the show to make sure we latched onto the characters and their goals, etc, just leaving us to assume isn't enough, and I think that's where a big part of the problem lies.
