@onenicebugperday can you explain this?

Yep, it’s a rolling swarm of caterpillars. They just happen to move more efficiently that way! A rolling swarm can move a lot faster than individuals can on their own. Using other moving caterpillars to walk on is sort of like those moving walkways we use at airports :)

4 lessons writers can learn from “the good place”

the article from writer’s digest contains spoilers for the good place, so i put the bullet points here for general advice

  • specificity creates humor
  • you don’t have to be mean or paint in broad strokes to be funny
  • do unexpected things with classic tropes
  • ethics aren’t always boring
  • ground your humor in something deeper to add a sense of richness and complexity
  • make sure you explain complicated subjects in a way that doesn’t cause your readers’ eyes to glaze over or pull them out of the story
  • big twists create buzz and keep your audience hooked
  • surprise readers by changing things up, but don’t cheat them; lay the foundations for the twist early on and throughout your story
  • don’t settle for mediocrity
  • you may have ideas for where to drive your plot, and that’s great.
  • don’t stop at the first idea; keep thinking until you’ve brainstormed many potential paths - and then narrow them down to the true winner
