the designer and the grid

A collection of minimalist and ‘griddy’ designs that continue the tradition of modernism, with a contemporary twist. Images found by @sarahschrauwen. Every effort has been made to credit the projects and designers, contact us for edits. Also have a look at visualexploration.tumblr.com.

Film poster for Metropolis (Germany, 1927), directed by Fritz Lang. The dystopian future of Metropolis was heavily inspired by Art Deco and emphasizes the social class struggle between the elite and the working man. It portrays an industrial revolution that has reached an inconceivable peak. Designed by Sarah Schrauwen and Mathieu Vancamp.

When would be a good time to change the world? Now. Let’s take a lesson from our current situation: governments CAN move fast, solidarity and human interaction ARE a big deal, our planet DOES respond quickly to the decrease of human pollution, we really CAN be happy living and consuming more slowly and deliberately. When we get back to our ‘normal’ lives, let sustainability, equality and compassion be the NEW NORMAL. Until then: stay home, stay safe. ✌️

Design and words by yours truly, Sarah Schrauwen.
