In an effort to dissuade drivers from using the cellphones while driving, a total of 91 "text stops" have been installed across major highways in New York State where motorists can stop the car to send their text messages. The new accommodations come off the heels of a recent crackdown on texting drivers by the law enforcement, which has resulted in over 365% increase in the number of summons and tickets issued since last summer. During a press conference announcing the rest areas, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo added that the state would do everything in its power to combat the threat of distracted drivers, citing heightened penalties and new detection techniques.
The New York Post's senior reporter Stephanie Smith's boyfriend Eric has taken "Make Me a Sandwich" to a whole new level. After he jokingly told Smith that she was "300 sandwiches away from an engagement ring" in June 2012, Smith launched the blog 300 Sandwiches to document her journey of learning how to cook while earning wedded bliss. Today, after creating more than 176 sandwiches, Smith revealed her blog project in a column article on the New York Post, in which Eric was quoted as saying "[Men are] not complex. If you thought a Google Street View vehicle hitting a donkey was reckless, try a triple hit-and-run attempt involving two mini-vans and a truck. Apparently that's what happened in Bogor, Indonesia yesterday, when a Google Street View driver crashed into multiple cars while trying to flee from the first collision with a mini-van. According to the local officials, it all began when the driver crashed his Subaru hatchback into a public minivan while on the job, but upon arriving at a repair garage nearby to sort out the damage and the cost, the driver panicked and tried to drive away, though he eventually gave up after crashing into a second bus and a parked truck less than two miles away from the scene. While the driver's name or the total cost of damages remain unknown, the police says the driver was released after sorting out the payments for the vehicles and had he not tried to dodge the initial bill, it would have cost somewhere around 200,000 rupiah, or about $17.
We've seen a few odd cases of accidental self-incrimination before, but this just may be the first time ever in the history of YouTube that someone has publicly confessed to his crime in a video clip. On September 3rd, Ohio's non-profit group Because I Said I Wouldreleased a video showing a mosaic-censored white male confessing to hitting and killing a 61-year-old man named Vincent Canzani while drunk driving back in June. The man, who eventually reveals his face and identifies himself as 22-year-old Matthew Cordle in the same video, has been since arrested on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and operating a vehicle under the influence and is now facing a maximum sentence of eight and a half years in prison.
