This is my main, my art blog is @theclockworkkidart | Assume it's okay to reblog unless otherwise stated | 29 | NB | Dutch Canadian Artist | Canonical pronouns: they/them

been stuck with a terrible feeling that one of the episodes in the new black mirror season is gonna end with a title card like "the program you just watched was written by artificial intelligence" and they're going to be so smug about it and we'll all have to talk about it for weeks

oh hey apollo

lol

fahrenheit defenders i do not respect:

- “why would you need to know what temperature water freezes at” (i live in a place where snow and cars co-exist)

- “it’s a 0-100 scale so 50 degrees is a perfectly average temperature” (‘average temperature’ is subjective, i have seen enough people from different climates fight over what qualifies as ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ to know that does not work)

- “it just makes more sense objectively” (it’s only intuitive to you bc it’s what you’re used to)

fahrenheit defenders i respect:

- “you’re just jealous because we can say it’s 69 degrees outside” (i am)

That new ish drawing meme of drawing a character. Nothing changed except style. I make Melone’s hair fluffier. Can’t really show that I trans his gender either on the odd occasion. But you also can’t disprove his gender isn’t transed in canon. He’s a weird little science man too.

I drew him in my quicker style rather than actually trying too hard because it’s how I usually draw him. My headcanon is that he doesn’t discriminate on what gender he’s into and he’s an Italian man from a poor bad household who got into university to study genetics and ended up in Passione. He also thrives off of reactions and calls half the team “babygirl” including his leader Risotto.

Canon style is difficult because the proportions are really weird to figure out. Their heads are really long.

Edit: Included blank template under the cut I don’t know the original poster as it doesn’t include a username

Ngl its very depressing and tbh kinda demoralizing that hollywood and the larger western media landscape has decided that their artistic visions should never have to account for/compromise to include photosensitive epileptics like... *2* very popular mainstream childrens movies who just went "yeah, fuck people with epilepsy actually" with absolutely zero pushback did something really bad to the cultural zeitgeist and its only gonna get worse and people been saying this since eeaao, since cyberpunk 2077, and since the first spiderverse movie and its still remained only a cursory mention in this discussion. It is very easy to not induce seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy and studios are willfully choosing to slam the HURT button 4 the sake of a small teams Creative Expression

this post has a decent amount of notes now so TACKING ON SOME THOUGHTS

1. It should be flatout illegal for movies/any media made for children/general audiences to feature any kind of strobe lighting, flickering lights, severe and high contrast flashing colors. Many children with photosensitive epilepsy likely will not even know they are epileptics until that first seizure and it is ACTIVELY endangering their health and safety for no reason. Epileptic children exist and they (and their parents) are trusting the world not to hurt them. It should be 1000% illegal for any childrens media to contain photosensitive epilepsy triggers.

2. Movies/media that contain such seizure risks should be furthermore only be allowed to be labelled for adult audiences or even rated r. And it should be mandatory for them to come with adequate warnings online (via streaming or when buying tickets) at theaters (via buying tickets or shown before the viewing) or when buying physical media.

3. People have brought up that photosensitive epileptics aren't the only ones who suffer from the new trend of painful eyestrain inducing visuals. Photosensitive triggers can induce all matters of migraines, headaches, general eye strain, nausea and dizziness in people besides epileptics. Someone in the tags brought up the brilliant point that even if it's your "creative vision" you are pouring money into visuals that many people are going to deliberately look away from because you are attacking their fucking eyeballs.

Thats it thats my thought thanks 4 reading i love everyones tags on this post so far we didnt think so many people would see this and agree we love art and movies and hate ableism thank you thats all goodbye

Already 3.3 million hectares of land in Canada has been burning because of the extreme heat and dryness and it’s not even halfway through wildfires season. They’re actually predicting this will be the most destructive wildfire season in Canadian history. But most of what I’ve seen posted about these fires has to do with air quality. So I’ve decided to try and compile a list of resources to donate to help Canadians being affected at this time.

Alberta

Atlantic Canada

  • The Red Cross which if you donate to both the Canadian and the Nova Scotia government will match each dollar of your donation.

British Columbia

  • United Way BC supporting communities by giving them things such as food, mental health support, and shelter.
  • Food banks BC helping to feed those affected.

Canada as a whole

  • Unite for Change not directly donating to the fires but is working to make changes at a provincial and federal level to help fix the climate crisis which is directly making the fires worse.

Please tell me if you know of any other places taking donations to help either put out the fires or help the people affected. If any of these donation links are also donating to discriminatory policies or such like anti-trans legislation's please inform me so I can remove the link!

Quebec and Ontario links are especially wanted as I couldn't find anything for there and neither could my friend.

“Mean girls all grow up to be nurses!”

“Mean girls all go into social work!”

“The mean girl to teacher pipeline!”

Y’all, these are just pink collar jobs. The reason you think there’s so many “mean girls” in these fields is because they’re all like 97% women. Of course some of them are gonna be assholes. There’s assholes everywhere.

We get it. Your job isn’t like other girls’ jobs. It’s a cool job.

it’s true that there are some incredibly cruel people in all of these professions.

it’s also true that they all suffer from chronic underpayment, overwork, lack of institutional support, and insane bureaucratic demands that would make them fail the people in their care all the time even if every single one was a saint.

That’s absolutely missing the point.

While those are all “helper” professions and they very much are pink collar (and are underpaid, that’s not an incompatible idea), they’re also ones that involve power over vulnerable people’s lives. (And I’ve only encountered it as a comparison to, say, male bullies becoming cops, it’s not like men aren’t being mentioned here.)

Secretaries/administrative assistants aren’t on that list for a reason. Flight attendants aren’t on that list. Housecleaners aren’t on that list. Receptionists. Customer service representatives. Dental hygienists. The people who style hair or do nails. That’s not a list of pink collar jobs. It’s specifically (pink collar) positions where if you want to abuse people you’re relatively likely to get away with it.

It can both be true that “nurses who care for disabled people need better pay” and “nurses who care for disabled people have a lot of opportunities to abuse their power and that’s something worth talking about.”

Women aren’t immune from treating people badly because they’re women, or because women are underpaid. They’re sure not immune from specifically seeking out jobs that will allow them to be cruel without any consequences to them, if they get personal satisfaction out of being cruel.

You are trying to shut down a conversation about abuse.

Shitty people are attracted to positions of power. That includes working class women!

There have been a lot of studies about hazing and abuse in nursing communities and even murder!

My mother is a nurse, her co-workers sit around laughing about the people who fall out of their wheel chairs, about the nurses who do cry when someone dies, my mother has ignored patients crying out in pain in order to drink her coffee.

My mother has intentionally let elderly patients at her nursing home die. She has abused them and she has laughed about it. She has left people suffering and has caused that suffering.

Nurses are underpaid and they are disrespected as medical professionals who aren’t a doctor. That’s true and we should talk about that, but we can not ignore the fact that violent women seek out these jobs with God Complexes and the intent to do harm.

Sure, that harm might be because they are bitter, over-worked, and disrespected. None the less, it is no different than when a male doctor causes purposeful harm to his patient.

Nurses contribute to eugenics, to patient abuse, elder abuse, and yeah even child abuse (my mother was proficient in all of them!)

Here are some important articles to read:

Nurses Eat Their Young An article about hazing and bullying among nurses. The title comes from a common saying in medical circles, the first time I heard it, it was in reference to my mother’s best friend who had poured coffee over the hands of a new nurse who had reported another nurse to a superior for abusing a patient.

Every single one of these articles, with exception of the last – which is guardian article – is a professionally published medical article.

And as always, my stance is going to be, “If you can’t do your job without abusing people, quit your job.”

daily reminders

  • no human being is 100% happy 100% of the time
  • being a person is extraordinarily difficult even in the best of times
  • this is not the best of times
  • someone is grateful you exist (don't argue, it's true)
  • a bad day does not predict a bad existence
  • it's gonna be okay

soap2day doesn’t have the new Spiderverse movie. Does anyone know where I can watch it?
