Reasons I like physical copies of books:

• I like to see my bookmark travel down the pages until I’ve finished. • guests can point at books and ask questions about them, giving me an excuse to blabber on about them. • I can lend physical copies to friends! Especially when they ask for personalized recommendations. • I can just look at them and remember that they exist and recount the stories/information inside. • more than once, I have pulled a book off my shelf and cracked that thing open to win an argument (in the case of non-fiction). • I don’t have to charge a book. • I like the feel of my fingers on the pages and the weight of the book in my hands.

I agree with all of this BUT I like ebooks just as much, and here’s why:

  • I read a lot in English but I am from Spain, and from a small town, that means little to no access to books in that language.
  • because of that I have to order my physical copies online. It takes forever from the moment I order a book in the UK until it’s in my hands
  • I read a lot of romance lately and you know what? the biggest market and almost all of the writers are in AMERICA, that’s ACROSS THE ATLANTIC (remeber, it takes forever to order a book in the UK and that’s only an hour or so flight away from Spain)
  • Ordering books to America is expensive, not because of the books’ prizes (second hand books/library sales online) but because of the handling and postage fees
  • Ordering the ebooks allows me have said books at a normal prize, w/o postage and most importantly I can read them straight away
  • Still, I have a shopping list with my favourite titles and every so often I order physical copies.
  • Another good thing about ebooks is that ereaders are light, I wouldn’t recommend you carry War and Peace in your bag, for example. It’s huge. Brillant, every single page of it, but HUGE.

Remember, the important thing here is reading. Not everyone has access to books, and not everyone has the same reading abilities. Do not forget that AUDIOBOOKS count as books just as well.

I’m in the Pro-Dead-Trees corner because I’m a tactile person. I like FEELING the book in my hand, buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut! I’m here for any format that gets peeps reading. Basically I’M HERE FOR EVERYTHING IN THIS WHOLE ENTIRE POST!

Since I can do either, does that make me a swinger?

Audiobooks are fabulous, too 🙌🏼
