Some more playing about ont he scanner, with oxygen masks. truning the lights on in the room and leaving the scanner lid open during the scanning is generating a nice pale greynes which I’m finding realy nice. I feel as though the blackness is the darker images (created by scaning with lid down and the lights off) created a definate negative space or absence. However the paleler grey backgrounds im generating now create a definate presence which seems to place itself in the middle ground. Its like there is a sense that there are more forms behind the grey.

A Brief Reflection

I feel my work has become an exploration of an aesthetic which provides a sense of the uncanny, something medical, hinted at but only partialy revealed, indicative of mortality and human fragility. Cameraless photography as helped me to create indexes , the referents for which are both visceral, human, biological whilst at the same time medical, clinical, artificial. My video footage has recorded a tension i have found within objects, which despite being used to support and preserve life are, through the act of animation, rendered inherently inanimate and this disanimation than transferes to us and we realise that we are equaly inanimate. The movements and processes we assocaite with a living body are highlighted as simple mechanical repetitions fuled by chemical reactions. Underpinning all of this is the idea of breath; the principle sustaining action so easily silenced.

Above all though I just like the way it looks!

Although I like the packaging to some degree in these images, the sense of the unopened and clinical which neccesarily denotes the intended opening and use althou the use iyself is masked somewhat by the indiscinct presentation of the contents. there is also something a bit airport xray image of a holday makers hand luggage which puts me off a bit
