Remember how it started as 14 days?

FUN FACT!

I was working as a contact tracer during the pandemic. I was in a supervisor position, so I'd be on calls with the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), who would relay to us what the CDC's current guidance was. And when the 5 Day Isolation thing came out, all of us asked "but is it safe? Is there any guidance that suggests people are less likely to infect others?" Their answer was "no, but businesses need workers, and this is about people getting back to work faster."

I know a lot of people think that the 5 Day Isolation must have come about because of some new scientific discovery that 10 days was too long, or new strains don't last as long, and blatantly no. THIS DECISION WAS NEVER MADE TO KEEP YOU SAFE. THIS DECISION HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT MONEY.

Wow I hate capitalism so much

Just to be clear, I don't think very many of us ever actually thought the 5 day thing was about our safety, it was pretty blatantly bullshit

The Spring Fairy, 1902 by Segundo de Chomón

The earliest color films, from the mid-1890s, were colored by hand, frame by frame, using tiny brushes—sometimes only a single camel hair. The work was extraordinarily labor intensive. One film-coloring workshop, run by Elisabeth Thuillier in Paris, employed approximately 200 female colorists. “I spent my nights selecting and sampling the colors, and during the day, the workers applied the color according to my instructions,” Thuillier recalled in a 1929 interview. “Each specialized worker applied only one color, and we often exceeded 20 colors on a film.”

I actually gasped at this. The color is so shocking against the grey, in the best possible way!

And why did the value plummet, Marissa? Why did it plummet?

Would like to know how exactly she wouldn't fuck up Netflix or Hulu

What does that even mean? PDF as in Portable Document Format?

In the documentary, How to Survive a Plague they mention this very fact. Reagan was the president during this time and do you know what he did when the LGBTQ community begged him for help? He fucking laughed at us. His administration CELEBRATED that finally, ‘God’s judgement in the form of a plague’ was striking down queer people.  They saw it as a form of divine population control.  Reagan could have given a rats ass about us…

Until the plague began to effect straight people. THEN his administration cared. Because the people that mattered were finally getting sick. And finally the millions of dollars in research money was poured into finding a treatment for HIV. But by then, so many LGBTQ individuals had died.  More people died from the initial HIV epidemic than the Vietnam war.

So when straight people complain about being ‘oppressed’ and why there isn’t a straight pride parade? Go fuck yourself. No one has ever tried to wipe you out through a plague, ignored your cries for help as a disease wiped out massive amounts of your community.

Interesting how a pandemic can be shown to disproportionately affect oppressed groups and conservatives can plan to claim negligence when they decide to weaponise it. I hope nothing like that ever happens again.

help me roger

Update: after I reblogged this someone messaged me offering me tickets to the sold out Hausu screening with a Q&A and autograph session with the director

These never work for me, but here’s to trying.

  1. I don’t believe in these things
  2. But last time I reblogged one ten/fifteen minutes later I got a call offering me a job
  3. But I reblogged it because I was waiting on hearing back from the job. So there you go.
  4. Roger is cute.

NOT ARH RELATED BUT Real question: why are we listening to internet fish?

But I admit I am curious… I am only human. Don’t judge me…I haven’t had any tea yet

You know what I think is really cool about language (English in this case)? It’s the way you can express “I don’t know” without opening your mouth. All you have to do is hum a low note, a high note, then another lower note. The same goes for yes and no. Does anyone know what this is called?

These are called vocables, a form of non-lexical utterance - that is, wordlike sounds that aren’t strictly words, have flexible meaning depending on context, and reflect the speakers emotional reaction to the context rather than stating something specific. They also include uh-oh! (that’s not good!), uh-huh and mm-hmm (yes), uhn-uhn (no), huh? (what?), huh… (oh, I see…), hmmn… (I wonder… / maybe…), awww! (that’s cute!), aww… (darn it…), um? (excuse me; that doesn’t seem right?), ugh and guh (expressions of alarm, disgust, or sympathy toward somebody else’s displeasure or distress), etc.

Every natural human language has at least a few vocables in it, and filler words like “um” and “erm” are also part of this overall class of utterances. Technically “vocable” itself refers to a wider category of utterances, but these types of sounds are the ones most frequently being referred to, when the word is used.

Reblog if u just hummed all of these out loud as you read them

Video games

Playing video games is a huge part of my life and my love for it all started because of my dad. He loves them! and I used to enjoy playing it with my dad and big sis. My dad hasn’t played RPG games for a while, but recently he started playing Pokemon sword because he saw me playing and it’s pretty cute XD

This is so pure and perfect
