all my life I’ve somehow only ever seen the gifs of this. I never even knew that the pumpkin man was dancing to the Ghostbusters theme. This whole thing is so much better than I ever could have expected from the gifs omg
still so charmed by the way rose tyler is so unapologetically lower class without the narrative like. consistently telling you that. it’s all stuff you see between her flat and her bottle blonde hair with roots poking through and and her clumpy mascara and her clothes that don’t fit quite right and her passion for looking out for the underdog. it’s just so refreshing to have the protagonist of a show not be so squeaky clean and polished or a complete antihero but just some completely normal girl shaped by the way she grew up
Rose Tyler met aliens and immediately went “Hello, do you know what unions are? Do you want to learn?” and that’s so powerful of her.
I could actually write an essay defending Frodo Baggins as a character and why he’s an exceptional and profound protagonist, but nothing can sum up my feelings better than this person on pinterest who said, “he is a hero and a polite little dude, what more could you want?”
all fanfiction is funnier and sexier and vastly better-written when you read it at three in the morning, in the dark, lying on your side, tucked into bed, with screen rotate turned off. that’s just how it works. that’s just facts.
Words can't even begin to describe how proud I am of Anthony Mackie. His portrayal of Sam Wilson is so beautiful; the gentleness, the kindness. Often times black people are depicted as loud, obnoxious, violent, and ignorant. And there's nothing wrong with being balck and being those things, but the intentions on why they do it is the issue. They want to stigmatize and ridicule us. But Anthony Mackie? Anthony Mackie handled this character and this message with the utmost care. Many people aren't going to agree with me, but I like that Anthony is the new captain. Because like he said, the shield means something different in his hands. As a black women, as a black person, seeing someone be unapologetically black and proud and hold a place of power and wants to evoke change brings tears to my eyes. I don't know how else to explain it other than I'm proud, I'm happy and thank you. Thank you Anthony Mackie, you don't know how many people you are impacting.
the things is: as much as we all hate him, it’s undeniable that john walker is so freaking well written. like, mcu is well known for its bland antagonists (with the exception of two characters - and loki is one of them-) but they outdone themselves with john walker.
because he’s so despicable, but he really is the product of what the government made of him, and the fact that he has this big inferiority complex that led him take the serum and the way he gone mad, so drunk of this new power. his psychology is so well explored.
like wow, finally some good writing in a villain
(but keep in mind that i don’t like him, i’m just enjoying some good writing)
we should bring back the supernatural fandom somehow having an extremely specific gif for literally every occasion though
i know you guys are still out there. i know you still have your .gif folders. don't pretend you're not.
you. you get it.
ANTHONY MACKIE as SAM WILSON The Falcon and the Winter Soldier | 1.05 “Truth”
The way Sam talked to Karli, gentle but firm, was so great on so many levels. She lashed out telling him to not be condescending to her, to not treat her like a kid, which I think ties in with how she has so much responsibility on her shoulders and probably had to grow up really fast, taking a mature stance and quickly assuming people will talk down on her or treat her like she's stupid or incompetent, a "child in adult shoes" if you will, and she fights against that, wanting and needing to be taken seriously.
The actress, Erin Kelleyman, is 22 herself, so if we suppose that Karli is too, she was around 16 or 17 when the Blip happened, and she had to fend for herself while the world was in ruins. In those years she was supposed to go to school and have friends, she stole the serum, used it on herself, lead a group and gathered supplies, and she took care of others while she was barely an adult herself.
And here's Sam, who's worked with soldiers with trauma before and who stands up for her despite of the things she did, who wants to help her and talk. He recognizes what she essentially is: a soldier with trauma.
He talks to her gently, but keeps his message out in the clear along with his intentions: I agree with your stance, but I can't get behind the killing, and I want you to stop. He doesn't sugar coat it but he doesn't confront her harshly either, keeping it nuanced and reasonable because he knows that while they see Karli as unreasonable, Karli sees them as unreasonable too, and Sam breaks that cycle by showing her that he's open for her side of the story, and in return Karli tries to explain it to him and show him what she means.
You can see her go along, you can see Karli genuinely following and processing the conversation and build this kind of trust with Sam, as she says later, "I trusted him".
Sam treats her gently because she's been through so much, but also firm and direct because of that same reason. She does know what she's talking about, which Sam knows, but he also knows she's just been through so much in such a vital part of her life that it's shaped her, and the serum probably had its hand in it as well (I think it amplified the anger and frustration she already felt).
And he was so close. He was so close to getting through to her. He knows about the building but he doesn't harshly pursue her for it because he understands that won't help right now, pushing for that won't make her understand, so he tries a different approach.
That scene was just amazing, and the way Sam was so open and kind and trying to make a joke, but still keeping to his stance really moved me. Anthony Mackie's performance just never stops to make me emotional in all the good ways. That man is amazing.
not captain america, in all his star spangled glory, armed with the shield, working and leading the police and harassing refugees in europe like wtf. i support sam wilson destroy the shield agenda i really DO
