Just something I wrote today (20/1/17)

Today we stand on the precipice of a change feared by many. The ascension of this orange faced would-be dictator is not only worrying because of the political changes coming but, and perhaps more worryingly, because of the current culture and political climate that has led to this. Despite the negatives of this, and there are many, it puts these issues front and centre and this provides us with an opportunity, and duty, to unite against the racist, homophobic, sexist, post-truth rhetoric that seemingly surrounds us. We all have a role to play. These outdated and divisive views should be debated and debunked. It is not enough to stand by and just label these people as racists or sexists. Far more can be achieved by engaging and challenging these views rather than just standing by in silent judgement or labelling. It is not enough to mock and ridicule these views they need to be countered with facts and reason. Only then can we truly debate the issues at hand instead of just seeking an emotive response devoid of understanding. We have come along way but it's not far enough and the journey is far from over. We all can do better. We all must be better.
