Odysseus/Sea | 23 | they/them | biting Dream of the Endless

this is the third(?) intro post ive made to my own blog

Hi im Sea. this is the fandom blog where i reblog funny things and occasionally make opinions. sometimes with math

Talk to me about:

  • Sandman (Netflix)
  • BNHA (if you haven’t realized that I’m an all might fan) (edit: YES I still am an All Might fan I just subconsciously turn off the bnha switch in my brain whenever hes not in the story)
  • Ace Attorney (edit: or specifically my personal version of AA that I rotate in my head on a daily basis)
  • Pirates of the Caribbean.
  • How fucking cool the ocean is
  • The Owl House
  • Kingdom Hearts, tho ask me those questions on my kh blog (@iloveluxu). I don’t do much on it, but if you send me KH asks on there I will talk about it for hours and you will be forced to listen
  • Batman (2022). No I don't know anything else abt the DC universe other than what's been given to me via mutuals
  • Welcome To Nightvale
  • I also really like Everything Everywhere All At Once and Knives Out but I'm not in the fandom or anything I just think they're some of the best movies to ever exist and I rotate them and their hole shaped pastries in my brain constantly

Or if you’re feeling quirky and want to start ~controversy~ (please seriously for real don’t start controversy) ask me my opinions on asian media and representation. This is /gen. I may not be right sometimes, but I am insufferable, and I have opinions

and now. the special™ and sort of long posts.

Edit: I had an idea abt a quirkless au once, I'm not too into BNHA anymore but I still have thoughts. If u wanna ask

Edit: If ur here from the recent sexyman polls and saw my WTNV post, that was made long before polls were a thing and was made for me myself and I lmao. I like WTNV, not really in the 'fandom' anymore though.

So I'm reading through the Sandman comics, and I just got through "Three Septembers and a January" and it is just... SO interesting in terms of the Endless family dynamics.

(This is going to be so disorganized and rambly I just have a lot of feelings I loved this story okay)

Like, yeah okay I'm a Dream apologist, but seriously. Despair calls Dream (not in her gallery and without his sigil- very informal and borderline against the rules- and he still comes!) and challenges him to a game over a mortal's life. Dream is like "No, I don't play your games, I'm a goddamn professional" and Despair shoots back like "WOW you think you're soooo much better than us, not fucking around with people's lives, it's 100% your fault Destruction left" and Dream is like "...fine, hold my beer."

So that alone I'm like. Yeah dude. I get it. And if that's the shit he's been dealing with for all of existence? Yeah I'd be annoyed with my siblings too.

Another part I'm super interested in is seeing when Death shows up and when she doesn't (to be fair, we're following Dream, so it's possible we just don't see certain interactions).

At the very beginning of the challenge, Death shows up to like. Scold Dream for going along with it? She even says "I thought you were an adult" and like. Okay, sure, you think Dream shouldn't be doing this but are you going to talk to Despair and Desire about this? I love Death but a lot of times she gives me the vibe of an adult telling you "Just ignore them they're just doing it to get a reaction" instead of telling the other person to stop antagonizing you, y'know?

At one point Despair says "What's there to understand? He's mortal. He's nothing." And Dream immediately disagrees, and like. That feels like PRIME Death lecture area. Despair doesn't value mortals! The people they serve! Death if you can scold Dream for feeling lost and disconnected from humanity after being tortured for 100 years you can scold Despair for looking down on humans for seemingly no reason.

Desire eventually shows up to try to sway the guy they're following into giving into his desires, but he turns them down. And Desire is SO pissed like "what the FUCK this guy should be mine!!" and Dream's just like "¯\_(:/)_/¯" and then as he leaves is like "Tbh disappointed in you Desire, you weren't very subtle" which to me felt like an "I expected better from you" and, expectedly, Desire gets MORE pissed and as they leave, to themself are like "Oh he wants subtle? I'm gonna make him spill family blood and bring the Kindly Ones down on him!!" Which. To me. Feels like just a bit of an overreaction.

Seriously THAT'S why you want to kill him?? Because he insulted you during a challenge that he didn't even want to be a part of but got provoked into? That's your motivation? Holy shit.

Dream's done some fucked up shit, no lie, but when it comes to the family side of things? Honestly #TeamDream all the way, just leave the poor boy alone, Jesus Christ.

I loveeee cultural appreciation. I had an english speaking guest at work who was wearing some sámi jewelry (not anything traditional/with a specific meaning or gákti jewelry, just a pretty necklace and earrings) so I asked where they’re from and tbh I kinda assumed she was a sámi person from another side of the border, but it turned out she was an american tourist, and she said “they’re from sápmi” so first of all she gets points for calling it sápmi. and then she told me she bought them from two sámi owned brands/designers that i’ve bought jewelry from before, and that’s expensive like she didn’t get any knockoff tourist shop bullshit. and I was like oh no way! thats the same brand these earrings I’m wearing are from! and told her that they’re protection symbols I got from my áhkku and she looked at them and was like “like the things they used to protect little babies!!!” it was a really sweet interaction I loved that she actually knew about the earrings 😭❤️ supporting sámi brands, calling it sápmi and learning about the culture this is so beautiful to me especially bc of how weird tourists and souvenir shops can be about us

Dick van Dyke was flipping through the phone book one day, and he happened to see the name “Stan Laurel”. And he said to himself, There’s no way that this is the Stan Laurel, and decided to call the number. And sure enough, it was, in fact, the Stan Laurel. Dick said who he was, and that he wasn’t sure if Stan knew of him and his television show. Stan said that he certainly did know of the show. And Dick apologized for all the bits he had stolen from Laurel and Hardy over the years. To which Stan replied, I’d tell you the names of the people that we stole them from, but you wouldn’t recognize any of them.

The two became good friends, and van Dyke even delivered the eulogy at Stan’s funeral. There’s a story (probably apocryphal) that as he was giving an interview after the funeral, the cemetery’s sprinkler system turned on, soaking van Dyke. And he looked up at the sky and said, You’ve been up there for a week, and already, you’re messing with the props?

You, a fake clone, are stuck in the classic “Shoot one, let one live” situation. To your horror, the person with the gun outsmarts you and uncovers that you were fake all along. Just as you brace yourself for the bullet, they point their gun towards the real person and pulls the trigger.

free him!! 😢

What did he DO?  Why must he be blindfolded?  SIR!?  What crimes have your eyes committed?

Oo I work next to that site :D

Here’s a nice explanation I found on Reddit (have not fact checked myself)

Oh I had forgotten that such a friend is not actually present yet.  : )  Thank you.  You’d think as a spirit worker, with a passing familiarity with Fu Lions and other esoteric friends, that that possibility would have occurred to me immediately.  I really appreciate you, @shrimpshrampshromp!

i gotta say i agree that exposing children to algorithmic content feeds is going to make them grow up with one billion new kinds of mental illnesses and it's a serious societal problem that urgently needs addressing but it makes me v. v. v. uneasy when i see posts going around that identify this issue and come to the conclusion 'this is why it's important for parents to know what their kid is doing online' and uh girls there are a lot of kids out there who would be dead if their parents knew what they were doing online

"yeah this aspect of capitalism is extremely alienating and traumatizing" and im nodding and smiling and then they add "which is why we must retreat to the safety of the family" and i start abruptly high-pitched screaming like a fire alarm

idk why but there is something unusually funny to me about Will Wood using social media extremely sparingly but making an exception to post this long ass rant about how much he hates the Netflix Wednesday show on his youtube community page

Lol. Everyone in the notes freaking out like 'I live by the sea, don't jump in, it dangerous'.

Like, guys, guys, listen, you don't understand. They don't mean... They want to be... Listen, ok, I grew up on the sea, I've been through hurricanes on trawlers and gale force 9 storms crewing tallships. I've seen enormous waves absolutely destroy boats. I've been caught in riptides while scuba diving and felt the complete powerlessness of it. The sea will absolutely annihilate you, consume you, never give up your body, and not even notice.

I know the power of the sea better than most, however, I know exactly what they mean. Sometimes you see it churning with unfathomable power and all you want is to just get in the sea and have it absolutely fuckin blast you clean. Like sandblast your fuckin soul. Fuckin powerwash your bones clean. Ya know?

Can confirm, getting beat up by the ocean is a religious experience.
