Michael explained daily calories to me last night to make me feel better about my eating habits. Before the spiked Fanta, I felt comforted by that information. But two drinks in, I’m feeling proud of myself for staying so below the daily amount.

Today, I ate a banana, a rice cake and pasta. I also ate a Popeye’s biscuit with honey. My fanta has a decent amount of sugar and vodka carries its own calories, but I’m proud of myself for staying so below 3,000 calories.

Tomorrow, they’re providing breakfast and lunch but if I eat my own foods, I can keep this trend going.

The sober parts of me feels bad about feeling good about this, but in my current state, I feel fine.

A woman from Kenya came across her old classmate who had become addicted to drugs and was living on the streets. Instead of running away like so many had before, she stopped to talk to him. When he told her he didn’t want to live this life anymore she got him checked into a rehab facility and stayed by his side through his road to recovery ❤️

y’all, i know most mommy bloggers are usually absolutely vile, and the “wine o’clock” culture is so annoying, but really think about it: why don’t we talk about how alarming it is that mothers feel the need to constantly talk about wine, drink wine, buy trinkets that have quirky sayings about wine, and yet no one is concerned that maybe patriarchal marriage structures are contributing to alcoholism in women? why is it that, if a mommy blogger says she takes shots of tequila to get through her day it would be alarming, but having a wine tumbler that says “mommy juice” or “i wine because my kids whine” (a real thing i have seen online for purchase) isn’t… scary?

i just think we need to have conversations about how the structure of modern motherhood and marriage is maybe super harmful for women? and maybe one solution is to normalize men taking more responsibility in the home and as parents. this goes along with useless husband “jokes” where women chuckle over a bottle or two of wine (!!!) about how their husbands are so clueless and helpless. normalize husbands doing the cooking and dishes. normalize husbands taking part time work in order to care for the kids. it’s not about shifting power from husband to wife, it’s about deconstructing the need for power in the first place.

There’s a woman who comes into my gym regularly who’s like this. There’s a liquor store close by and she always comes in with a bottle of wine from there, works out and then goes home and drinks it. She jokes about it but like…I see her about 4 days a week so like she’s downing an entire bottle of wine in the evening at least 4 times a week. Is that not alcoholism?

She took up acting because the malnutrition she suffered under the nazis permanently damaged her health and prevented her from pursuing her dream to be a ballerina. During the war, she danced to raise money for the resistance - even though she was literally starving, she used what strength she had to make sure more nazis got shot.

She and her mom also denounced their royal heritage because of the Nazis in their family

Also Audrey was a humanitarian until her death, though ill with cancer, she continued her work for UNICEF, travelling to Somalia, Kenya, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, France and the United States.

These are things I literally never would have known about. I’m tired of women being painted as just being pretty.

I’M SO HAPPY TO SEE HER AT AN OLDER AGE I SWEAR!

Here’s another nice one.

For the longest time I assumed she had died really young because I never saw any pictures of her at an older age. She was an amazing woman.

and they’re usually not that brilliant and careful either. 99% of the time the police are just incompetent! Ted Bundy literally jumped out a window and escaped police custody because they weren’t watching him

A victim literally escaped Jeffrey Dahmer’s apartment naked with a hole drilled in his head and unable to speak but police let Dahmer take him back to his apartment like everything was ok!

And I guess he doesn’t count as a serial killer but Eric Harris had already been making threats and harrassing students to an extreme degree before Columbine- police literally had a search warrant but they just never acted on it. If they had, they would have found the guns and pipe bombs and the shooting could have been easily prevented. They even tried to cover this up afterwards.

Serial killers and mass murders are usually not that smart, police have just historically refused to do their actual jobs.

always remember that the “genius serial killer” narrative is a blatant cover for the fact that the police will always look the other way when it comes to white cis men exhibiting blatantly violent and hateful behavior

me: haha oh god this is so bad im making so many unsupported claims and pulling all this analysis out of my ass

my prof in the margins: excellent analysis!

me:

when i was in high school i used to write my papers thinking wow i’m just bullshitting all of this. then like a week before my senior year ended after all the grades were set, i was talking to my english teacher and told him you know i just bullshitted every paper i wrote. he told me that while i may have thought i was just pulling it all out of my ass, i genuinely knew what i was talking about and made well-supported analyses. i only thought i was bullshitting because it didn’t take much effort and it all seemed obvious to me. if you do well on your essays even though you think you’re just making it up as you go, chances are you’re not pulling it out of your ass. you’re just a genuinely talented analyst, even if the analysis that you’re making comes from a subconscious understanding of the material rather than a conscious effort to study it. give yourself some credit.

You also often need an address and bank account, it’s almost impossible for homeless people to ‘just get a job’.

people with serious medical conditions only work in crappy kitchens because usually there’s a cash option, and if they get paid on paper they’ll lose their state subsidized healthcare.

Which would mean that if they make too much money they’ll lose access to the medication keeping them alive.

Pretty cool system we have here
